I only use truemoneywallet in 7 eleven, can you scan anywhere that accepts QR?

So you should be all set, give it a try sometime.

When you pay at a 7-Eleven, you click on "Pay", then your QR code shows up for the 7-Eleven clerk to scan.

Next to that "Pay" button, you find a "Scan" button, and that allows you to scan both TrueMoney QR codes (for example at certain vending machines) and PromptPay QR codes. It detects which one it is automatically, shows you the transaction details and asks you for confirmation. If the PromptPay QR code doesn't include the amount, it allows you to enter the amount yourself, just like a bank app would.

I would go to the branch and ask them.

What you describe is unusual, IME, as face-scan is normally just used once to "secure" your mobile banking app and set limits.

There is no such thing as "normal", every bank globally has it's own way of doing things.

Last week I had to do my extension and when I went to the bank,TTB, and had to do face scan when getting the documents.

Before the there is any assumptions, it was nothing to do with any transfer, I had done that at home before going, and it was nothing to do with any payment for the documents, I did that with cash.

May not happen with every bank and only time will tell how the sceptics get on with their extensions.

Check your transfer limits in the app. If not set yet may have to use facial scan.

I don't understand, what do you mean?

Transfer limits used to be 20,000, so higher than 200. But Kbank's algorithm will reset transfer limits every month to a value determined by them (info from their call center). I think they probably didn't change it to less than 200.

Right now, I have no access to the app at all, in lack of the facial scan (which they cannot do)

I had to remove my glasses when my portrait was taken by Bkk Bank. Now, when I have to verify, I can't see the damn app telling me to smile or blink or whatever. A super pain. I usually find a different way to pay or not spend it altogether.

Strikes me as a lot easier - not to mention quicker - to just pull the requisite amount of cash out of your wallet!

A face scan (face recognition) is not much different from a fingerprint scan. If it is safer than PINs and spares you the hassle of 2F verification I'm all for it.

I didn't realize that this is yet another cash vs. cashless topic. You do you, great to have options. I don't want cash to go away either.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and I'd ask my dad for money to buy something, he'd say "Go to the shop and pull funny faces at them, they'll throw it at you!"

Then the app told me to go to the branch,  bring my passport again, do a face scan again (because of 200B). So I just went to AIS and paid 200B cash.

I am done with Thai banks. Jumping through ever new hoops.

But has anybody the slightest idea, why the banks do this?

The only common denominator I see is: access to my money is made as inconvenient as possible.

I just dismissed the message and did my transfer of 2,000 baht with no issues some weeks ago. I still have not visited K bank because I have a new passport, and must renew my passport again in January,

That's interesting.

My app doesn't let me in.

I cannot get further than the message.

Facial scan as such can be a pain in the .ss. Bangkok Bank always endless attempts.

That's the problem.  Phone resolution.  Holding the phone still.  The lighting.  Looking at the phone screen to center your face, rather than looking at the phone camera.  The background.  Changes to your face, such as facial hair.  And so on.  It can now take a considerable amount of time to do what used to take seconds.

To be clear: I cannot use the banking app AT ALL, for anything,  without a new face scan (which the branch couldn't do).

The branch told me, I can only use ATM and branch, no app.

It is only a minor inconvenience. But what worries me is the fact, that - over the last year or so - the banks here have been introducing more and more ways to make access to my money difficult.

I bank with Kasikorn, I haven't registered my face with them, yet I can readily use the K+ app for any transaction up to 49,999 above that it tells me I need to register my face at my branch. I can't be bothered and am happy with the workaround of sending multiple transactions less than 50k.

Something's not right, I would ask to speak to the manager.

Amazing.

Call center said it's not possible - I very much suspected that they  handle every customer differently.  That's the whole point of AI which they are so proud of.

It's more likely a case of certain activities triggering the need to register for face scans and that there's no going back once that happens.

The most obvious example is getting a new phone. No matter how well your K-Plus app used to work on your old phone without face scans, you won't be able to switch phones without face scan nowadays. So you'll need to go through the procedure at the branch, even if you never plan to make any transactions above the threshold requiring a face scan.

Yes, it'll catch up with me in a couple of years when I change phones.

There's no escape.

The app actually locked me out, forcing me to go to a branch.

You may want to plan ahead and just go and register anyway.  Eventually it will catch up to you.
