Cruise ships organise it all.

No ! I worked 15 years on Cruise Ships and Immigration Officers usually come onboard the first Port of entry ! That Cruise Ship might have been to Koh Samui before ! Officers check each Passport and stamp it ! I doubt they got 60 days, maybe a special 24 hrs or 7 day stamp ! Cruise Passengers must pay all Visa & Port charges on top of the Cruise fare when booking !

Pattaya welcomed around 2,600 tourists and crew members from the cruise ship 'Westerdam' on Wednesday morning. The vessel, operated by Holland America Line, was anchored near Koh Lan, with passengers and crew transported to Bali Hai Pier to explore the area.

The 'Westerdam' is a vista-class ship, measuring 280 meters in length. It initially docked at Laem Chabang Port on Monday and has planned its next stop at Koh Samui, scheduled for tomorrow. The arrival of such a large number of tourists provided a lively and bustling atmosphere at the pier and surrounding areas.

Officials from Chon Buri Immigration, Marine Department, and Tourist Police were present to assist the incoming passengers, ensuring smooth disembarkation and coordination. The event is seen as part of the ongoing efforts to boost tourism in Pattaya, contributing positively to the local economy.

Looking ahead, Pattaya and other destinations in Thailand are expected to see similar visits as cruise tourism gradually picks up. This trend is anticipated to continue providing economic benefits as the tourism industry recovers, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Pattaya welcomed 2,600 visitors from the cruise ship 'Westerdam.'
  • The ship is en route to Koh Samui, its next destination.
  • Local officials facilitated a smooth arrival for tourists.

The time in Pattaya is a sort of spoiler done on purpose.

It will mean after they have seen the low life of Pattaya they will enjoy the other destinations that much better.😆

It was the same for me in 2019, I was having a house built in Mae Phim beach in Rayong.

I intended to visit Pattaya for the weekend, it was only just over one hours drive I think.

I lasted the afternoon and then I went back, there were call girls strung all along the beach even though it was the afternoon, not a place for me.

I bet the cruise tourists will feel the same.

Good question.  I've also wondered how this works; could get expensive for some nationalities, or of course nearly impossible!

Perhaps it means that some arrivals can't get any visa and are ship bound.

Gee good for ladyboys

Thanks, my same thought. Just imagine the mincing among the passengers!

The Westerdam, a distinctly Dutch name for a ship, is the owner sometimes HAL?

Part of holland america line which along with cunard princess seabourn costa carnival and many other brands is all part of the CCL carnival cruise line parent company...A huge corporation that owns dozens of brands and hundreds of  ships that all still operate under their own brand names like Holland America....(originally Dutch)

Cruise ships?

Should we be happy or sad  ?

Sad, gonna be time to move farther out fairly soon as Pattaya turns into heaven or hell depending on perspective. Anyone who goes on any cruise ship, though, has a special place in hell reserved for them.

Also - Traffic's gonna suck.

I assume you mean "Central Pattaya" (soi Boukhao/Walkies/etc).

Cruise ship guests will only be following flags. Not here long enuff usually to go too far. Can't see them renting cars or a massive influx of taxi's. Traffic always sucks beach side of Suck-um-vit.🙃🙃

More people = more traffic. Even if they're just on the beach, it leads to cascading effects. And without the ability to build out roads the only option Pattaya has is increasing gridlock. When I moved here 18 years ago it only got as bad as it now is on a daily basis on the holidays.
