Police arrested a Canadian national on 19 December 2025 after he allegedly stole a car from a Thai man who had driven to Krabi City Police Station seeking help. The incident caused alarm as the suspect seized the vehicle inside the police compound and fled through central Krabi, prompting a rapid manhunt involving more than 30 officers.

Police identified the suspect as Mr Michael Jame Parton, aged 43, a Canadian national, who was accused of stealing a private passenger car with registration from Krabi. Officers pursued him along Utarakit Road in Krabi’s city centre before successfully intercepting and arresting him near a convenience store close to Krabi Hospital, where members of the public had gathered to watch.

According to police, the incident began earlier that day when the car owner, Mr Natthapong, was waiting inside his vehicle to pick up his child from school. While the car was parked, the foreign man unexpectedly opened the door and sat inside, alarming the driver and prompting concerns for his safety.

Mr Natthapong told officers he decided to drive directly to Krabi City Police Station to seek assistance. Upon arriving at the station and stepping out of the vehicle, the foreign man took advantage of the moment, climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away from the police premises.

Krabi City Police immediately issued a radio alert and mobilised officers to seal off routes and pursue the stolen vehicle. The chase ended near the hospital area, where police were able to stop the car and detain the suspect without further incident.

Police initially charged Mr Parton with theft and took him back to Krabi City Police Station for questioning. Immigration officers were contacted to assist in checking his legal status in Thailand and reviewing his background, as part of standard procedure involving foreign nationals.

Daily News reported that investigators are also examining whether the suspect was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. Further legal steps will depend on the outcome of these assessments and the ongoing investigation, police said.

Maybe the owner's car uses a FOB to start the car and lock/open but the FOB was maybe not in his pocket but on the middle console as he darted out of the car.

The story mentions that he is Canadian (and most people on this thread have referred to that fact, and are wondering how he could be so dumb as to purloin a car in broad daylight with the driver still behind the wheel.)

It's because he's a lumber jack and I don't care......

That's one way to sort out where to spend the X-mas holidays.

Good to see the Canucks giving us Brits some competition in the stupidness stakes!

I bet he hangs around in bars too wearing a bra......:giggle:

Likely thought it was a misdemeanor and that he would be out in a couple of hours like in Canada.

Paul Bunyan?  Paul Bunyan - Wikipedia

Kooks like this, petty thieves and graffiti spraying imbeciles, need to be packed up, put on a plane and sent back to where they came from.

Thailand needs to stop messing around and adopt some Singaporean measures. Commit crimes here you are out and not allowed back.

Indeed, 30 officers for one stolen vehicle, where are all these officers when people are driving the wrong way, driving on the footpath, drunk driving, crazy driving??? The list is endless?😅
