Will the dollar continue to sink?

Of course there are many reasons why the dollar is weak right now, but chief among them seems to be the incredibly stupid Trump tariffs, and the effect that that's having on American influence and the US dollar.

Since Trump's inauguration the dollar has dropped nearly 15% against the Euro and about 10% against the Thai baht. For those that are wealthy and have significant pensions it's just not a big deal, but for some of us it does make a difference.

And seeing the Thai baht go up against the dollar daily is not a particularly fun activity. Some will argue that the Thai baht is bloated, which I agree with but the dollar has gone down against most major currencies this year.

For those of you who have knowledge of the Thai baht and the mechanisms that are keeping it so high, and the US dollar and why it's trading so low, do you think this trend will continue for the foreseeable future? And if so how low could the dollar drop, could it drop to 25, 20, or even 15 Thai baht to a dollar?

And is this deliberate sabotage on the part of Trump and his cabinet, perhaps some sort of mechanism to pay off some debt, or make American exports cheaper? Or imports more expensive, perhaps?

They certainly don't care as they all seem to be crazy rich. And the well being of general population does not seem to mean anything to this administration and the cabinet members.

Seems like Trumps done to the Dollar what Farage and Brexit done to the Pound.

Several people on this forum knew this was coming in the run-up to the election. This is what Trump wants, to make the dollar as weak as possible. I remember seeing the Thai baht around 29 to the dollar during his first term. He will erase the dollar as the reserve currency, because other countries will simply not put up with effectively subsidizing Trump's monetizing of the US debt.

There are many ways to "rectify" the financial affairs of a state. But they are painful.

Except one: De-base your own currency. It's clearly the goal of the current US administration.

Private US$ holders may want to do what other states are doing: Get away from the US$, diversify into other currency (baskets). There is a reason why central banks are increasing their Gold holdings, for example.

What is good for worldwide central banks is good for private US$ holders.

Yes. BRICS. The future is Asia. The empire is on the way out.

That is absolutely correct, America has been on the decline for 30 years but in the past year that a descent has become infinitely more swift, under the circus clown, who has no idea how to manage an economy. Bankrupting huge businesses requires a completely different skill set than running a huge economy.

Asia is on its way up no doubt, and US influence is waning by the day, which is probably a good thing for the planet, as recently America has shown itself to be an extraordinarily unreliable ally, and cannot be trusted on any level.

Potentially. It's currently in the balance.

The push back against Liberalism/Progressivism may have come just in time to save western societies.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) fell around 9-10% year-to-date through December 2025 due mainly to trade policy uncertainty (will the courts block tariffs etc etc), Trumps influence on the independence of the Fed and rates (banana republic anyone?) and USD safe haven status due to these uncertainties.

This leads to a strong price rise in gold, which is strongly correlated to the Thai baht and we can expect more of the same in 2026 I imagine.

yeah, seems he is playing directly to the BRICS countries as his puppet master obviously wants IMHO.  But the Thai baht is a surprise, after the govt bank lowered the interest rate a week ago, what normally happens is that the currency then weakens but the Baht continues strengthening.  Meanwhile, Thai businesses, tourism, etc complains about the strong Baht hurting their business and the govt "continues" saying they want to lower the value...seems most want it to be in the 34-35 per US dollar range.  They indicate a further rate cut during the upcoming first quarter...We will be watching for sure.

30 years is about right. I left high school and could see then what was happening. I even pointed it out in my graduation year book quote.

I wish I could remember which one, but back in Feb. I quoted a large bank's prediction that the dollar would drop to 31 baht by the end of the year. I mostly don't listen to predictions. I didn't believe it then. Now I wish I had!. Trump and Vance have both said they want a weaker dollar.

I have only interest personally in 2 currencies: $US and Thai Baht. And as I use the 65K+ baht retirement extension of stay each month, I cannot play the currencies:

22NOV2025 -- Bank of Thailand governor Vitai Ratanakorn said on Saturday that a weaker baht would be beneficial for the economy, and that there was room to cut interest rates if needed to support growth.

“The central bank wants to see the baht weaken to an appropriate level that reflects the true state of our economy,” Mr Vitai told reporters at an event in Chiang Mai, without mentioning a specific level.

“I think the baht can weaken further,” he said, adding that the strength of the currency had been driven by a weaker dollar and Thailand’s current account surplus.

Yes, when you convert the gain in the Dow measured in dollars by the loss in value of the dollar over the same period.  The Dow hasn't gained at all.

MTG has already confirmed what many of us knew already.

There is no plan.

I think the circus dunce is so dim and so blinded by arrogance that he doesn't even see that, or pay it any regard.

There's no question that Trump was a wet dream for BRICS, and they're getting stronger by the day, as America gets weaker by the day.

Really? China, Russia and South Africa are basket cases.  Japan has major problems.  The Dollar/USA might have issues but it's still a stable, growing economy.

As long as Trump is in the White House it will continue to decline.

Personally I think that

- the Thai Baht will get in general stronger until February or March '26 against all currencies.

- the US Dollar will weaken further as long Trump occupies the White House like @JimHuaHin wrote above.

And I can only repeat myself. If you have the possibility buy CHF.

the US is going to have to do something about the debt, but exactly what that is, i dont know

Ah, you mean Venezuela. That's Trumps responsibility, isn't it...
