Visit the bank if I am on overstay.

Featured Replies

I've already explained the consequences I faced following a divorce without mutual consent,    and I'm asking: I need to get a new bank book to have proof of some bank transactions, but the old book is full and I'm in overstay. In my situation, can I get a new book? Or can I ask for a printout of the transactions (from a few weeks ago) I'm interested in? I don't have the bank's app, otherwise there wouldn't be any problems. Could going to the branch where I opened the account be helpful? Thanks again everyone.

  • Sorry for the divorce of the OP. A strong reminder to all falangs. In Thailand don't get legally involved with marriage and stuff. It can often end up all to the loss of the westerner.

Overstay will be sorted out on January 7th when I will leave the country. My priority know is how to get the statement of few days.

My experience with the Bangkok Bank when updating my bank book is that they did not ask for my passport.  When the book became full they printed out missing transactions on a piece of paper and stapled it in the book. This about 3 months ago.

They would need your passport if you wanted a new bank book.  Just tell them you will come back later.  Even if you get a new book my experience is that they never look or photo copy anything other than picture page.  They are too busy to do immigration's job by checking visas.

The only time they would check visas is if you wanted to open a new account.

Don't worry. Just go to the bank and get it sorted.

My passport is new so the visa is still on the old one. Totally empty.

Mine still has a line or two left before it's full. In that case, do they attach the pages or make a new one?

Which bank is this? From my experience, some banks are more interested in looking up your current visa than others.

You could request a statement instead, but the same applies, they will want to see your passport and passbook. If they notice that your passbook is full, they may suggest to get a new one anyway.

Added complication: As you said you have a new passport and your visa is still in the old one, you probably haven't registered your new passport with the bank yet. That in itself might trigger them to ask you for your old passport (the one that is registered with them). Again, it depends on the bank.

Is not full yet: in the past I remember I got some pages added and as well I need day by day details from 10 December to today.

No: I registered it the same day I got it.

No. I never used it and now request to go to the bank for face scan.

My passbook still have few free lines: request to add pages will also lead to handle my passport if I go where I opened the account?

Do banks in Thailand add pages to pass books?

Genuine question, I have never used the passbok past the intial issue date.

No they do not...

Krungsri  stapled an extra page into my book just a couple of weeks ago.

In my case they attached a new page (just a piece of paper with transactions printed on it)

4h ago, someone told you to try to ask the bank to add a page ... DID YOU EVER TRY ? Stop writing, just try and report if necessary. passport asked ? " Oh I forget sorry, can you just add a page, or I come back tmr..." Job Done if they accept. If they don't, back to square one but at least we know ...

On my banking apps, I can request a statement be emailed to me.  I can select starting and ending months for the request.

Personally, I'd avoid the bank if you can't do via app / online.   They will ask and see your PP, along with noticing your overstay, and may close / freeze your account, or worse, call PoPo.

Can I ask it at every branch?

I only use BBL now, and of late, yes, they've asked for PP and paged thru and made copy of 1st page & visa ext. stamp for me to sign.

Bangkok Bank did previously for my Savings account added pages as well if it was full and the new bank book then had only one line printed with the balance as of that date, but they did not do that for my Fixed Deposit account.

My Fixed Deposit Book was full and they made copies from my passport, latest extension of stay and they also shoved a piece of paper under my nose which stated

- My address

- My Phone Number
- Passport Number
- Nationality etc etc (but not visa status)

And I had to sign it to certify it had the correct information on it.

Not familiar with this bank. I understand you just need proof of recent transactions. At many banks this is possible via ATM machine and using the bank card. So if your card is not blocked, there should be a good chance you can print out a list a recent transactions without even to talk to someone.

Also just try to update your bank book as far as possible. If it is full go to the counter, show the full one and request a new one. If they ask you for your passport you tell them you did not bring  because you did not know you need it to update your bank book.

Thanachart is the name of one of the banks that merged to become what is now TTB.

If he doesn't sort it out, I'm sure the ex Thai missus will sort it out for him, shortly. 🙂

Yesterday went to get my 2 bank books renewed

the queue at Kasikorn was very long so went to Krungsri just round the corner there was no queue at all One signature one photo a good look at the passport less than 5 minutes all done.

Back at kasikorn a couple of hours later the queue had only advanced by 3 numbers !!

but I decided to sit and wait a while..luckily many people had got totally cheesed off and left so the numbers eventually advanced quickly.. much more scrutiny to get a new bank book here

scanned the passport with chip reading machine, looked at picture page, address report,90 day report,VISA page wanted my address in the UK ,Thai phone number, multiple signatures and 2 x photo...no wonder the bloody queue was so slow !!!!
