Seems like the coins less than one baht aren't needed.

Depends where you are in the country.

  • What a moronic idea.

  • Yet more pushing for a digital panopticon  we should all hope this idiotic idea fails totally.

  • Inconveniencing 99% of the population and 100% of tourists because they can't (or won't) tackle corrupt government workers and politicians.

there certainly are, just look in the mirror. 🤦‍♂️

That's an interesting name to disguise who you are, being "it is what it is".?

You must like to not to be identified. Maybe you ought to look in the mirror more closely yourself?🤦‍♂️

Eliminate the 1000 and 500 bills, sure, no problems. Most high rolling criminals deal with bitcoins anyways. It won't affect them, only the local criminals or those that receives their tea money in a neat envelope.

Who it would really piss off is all the tourists who don't have a Thai bank account. Unless the have a plan to let tourists use their own countries debit card in stores, restaurents, hotels, etc. Most likely be the end of small tourist dependent operators.

I use my own countries debit card. Never had a problem, and don't anticipate any.

If I did that, I would immediately get questions from my bank. It's not that easy anymore these days, everything revolves around control, control and more control.

The corrupt police will only accept 100 Baht notes now?

Will need jumbo sized brown envelopes to handle this idea.

Dumbest idea to come down the pike--and that's saying something as there are plenty.  I use 1000 baht notes all the time in my everyday life.

Not when I have Thai Baht on my UK debit card.

The death penalty? Blimey! There won't be any politicians or high-ranking officials left.🙂

Not at all. As quoted elsewhere, 'Not when I have Thai Baht on My debit card.

How will this "Warong believes eliminating these notes will restrict corrupt networks from using physical cash for storing, transferring, and paying bribes," stop bribes, also, Thailand said it will encourage cryptocurrency....which is something criminals love...the guy is relying on thais not understanding or asking questions, they will just believe his bull<deleted>.

They are right won't impact normal citizens.

Now the BIB, particular government  instead of brown envelope will need to go and and buy carry on suitcases!🤑🤣

I'll even need to start carrying a man bag when I go to bars and GoGo's🤔

A tiny, no-name party wants to take away notes that are commonly used by the cash based economy and leasing to.

- Liquidity Crisis & Disruption

- Consumer Panic

The local wet markets will scream and the poor who keep cash will be in trouble.

Thank goodness The Thai Pakdee Party has no chance of winning.

If this dope wants to stop politicians having rooms full of cash from corruption how about he has a platform to stop the corruption ?? We all know why don't we ???

So, a tourist must show ฿20000, so with his "idea" that's 200 ฿100 notes 555, to carry, or 400 for a family.

Imagine waiting in line for immigration to count the money. Seems another Thai politician that doesn't think, and he wants to run the country....oh my Buddha.

No, poor country, that country is called the Netherlands, don't tell anyone.

All transactions that are flagged as suspicious by the bank are reported to the authorities. It makes no difference whether the amount is 50 or 1,000 euros.

The envelopes will have to get much larger.

As I recall the U.S.had $1,OOO notes and they were canned because they were used by the drug dealers. In Australia the biggest note we have is the $100  but you rarely see them  in circulation and every time the police show a drug bust the cash that they find  is mostly 100s.

That is the dumbest idea I’ve heard in a while. This idiot thinks older people who aren’t used to digital currency never spend more than a few hundred baht at a time? The guy should quit politics and go into comedy.

Well, that party is doing its very best to get as few votes as possible, so keep it up, lads and lasses.

We better buy stocks in the Brown Envelope Factory, since more and larger envelopes will soon be required!

Unlike digital transfers, cash transactions in large amounts leave no record, making them ideal for underhand deals.

Exactly.  Cash is King and the majority of People always choose to keep cash when asked - because they dont want the Government, especially the currupt incompetent Thai one, to know all of their purchases, medical history and other personal issues they wish to keep private - and have the right to do so (still).

Gold. Easy way round this stupid idea.

And when you want to sell it, what then?
A piece of 10 baht, that's 6,600 100 baht notes.

Just an excuse to go forward and eliminate cash altogether so the WEF can control digital currency.
