This suggestion is so dumb it simply beggars belief.  It's bound to be a vote winner!

  • What a moronic idea.

  • Yet more pushing for a digital panopticon  we should all hope this idiotic idea fails totally.

  • Inconveniencing 99% of the population and 100% of tourists because they can't (or won't) tackle corrupt government workers and politicians.

You have to be pretty naive about corruption if you think such a move would stop it. Never mind the hassle it would cause everyone else. Insanity.

Politicians are a unique breed. They combine mendacity with stupidity with greed and impracticality. Truly useless people.

Yes, it's has to be up there with the Thai generals who said people should stop their cars (even on the motorways) at 8 am and 6 pm, exit the vehicles and stand to attention for the twice-daily playing of the national anthem.  You really couldn't dream up some of the nonsense that comes from influential 'hi-so'..

It is, and they have a plan for the eradication of pornography: poke out the eyes of every male when they turn 12.

It’s called Thainess 🤷🏼

Hooker: You heppy, Auto dahling?

Me: Yes, very baby. Thanks.

Hooker: Can give my present dahling? I hungly go eat now.

Me: Sure, here you go.

Hooker: Why you give thoong khayak (trash bag)?

Me: Your present, baby. 2000 in 10 baht coins. 200 coins.

Hooker turning red: You klezy, Auto?

Me: No, baby. Your government is. I have a coin counting machine next to the bed. Feel free to use it baby.

Then the “brown envelopes” become “brown garbage bags”.

12 would have been a bit late for me. I also foresee a full size model of a person that connects to your phone and reacts according to whatever you would have been watching.  I'm guessing blind people are already dealing with this anyway.

I love how they hide the six zeros (in remembrance of the original rupee?).

Learned recently that the super rich just count in "crore" which is 10 million.

Think a crore is 10,000

That's a delusional pipedream. They will just switch to gold instead of paper money.

Also, if they go through with it, it might be a good idea to get into selling briefcases, since they'llbee in great demand to lug around all those 20s and 100s. 🤪

Thai Pakdee Party

tHERE IS GOOD NEWS

This is a party that split from the Dems and won a whopping total of

0 seats

They should rather issue 5,000 and 10,000 Baht notes.

It's scary moments every time having to walk through bank branches with bags filled with large packs of 1000 Baht notes after larger deposits or withdrawals, in front of the audience.

WTF????  Digital banking?  .no 1000bht. No 500bht. Politicians are corrupt. Look at thaksin . I don't believe this <deleted>!  Wtf uses Digital?. So if we have to pay in cash ?. Do we have to use suit case's?. I've never heard anything more ridiculous. So if I have to pay the NEW fine of 1000bht to the police WHO incidentally are on commission.?????.I have to always have 10. 100bht notes on me because of corruption?

Thai culture is" CORRUPTION ". look at the voting scandal?  The poor being paid and shipped to vote openly in view.

I've always found it rather odd that there is nothing larger than 1,000 baht.

I would like to see 2000 or 5000 B notes.

Or even 10k notes , still half of a 500 euro bill.

Won't corruption go for gold bars ?

Easier for higher values .

burden for much of Thailand and next to impossible for foreigners to deal with.  Many if not most visitors even those who come for 60 or 90 day holidays cannot get a local bank account.  Seems like another good way to cause foreigners look for other countries to visit.  Thailand shooting itself in the foot comes to mind.

I hope this is like 47 having "a plan for healthcare." More bad than good would come from basically eliminating cash.

why do you even have to mention anything about Trump, this is about Thailand, nothing to do with him or the USA.

If you dont like the idea just say so, you dont need to turn this into another Trump bashing post!

What is the issue with people wanting to turn every topic into something about Trump?

Now back to the topic.   I've heard allot of bad ideas over the years, but this I believe is the worst idea ever!

India did similar on 8 November 2016 when PM Modi declared that 1000 and 500 rupiah notes would become worthless at midnight.

The guys that refill the ATM will need to work a lot of overtime to keep them stocked with red notes.

In India they use rupee. Rupiah is the Indonesian currency.

Btw, this idea of axeing these bills, can someone inform them that it isn't April 1st yet?

Great idea. Tourists can use the True Money App to scan and those with Thai accounts scan now anyway. I’ve never understood the reluctance to change to something more convenient. People seem scared of change. They need to ban Bitcoin ATM’s to cover the final corrupt avenue preventing the crooks from being able to turn it into local currency.

Why do you need to pay in cash? Yes I find it ridiculous I needed cash at the Immigration office to pay for a Visa but other than that you can easily live a normal life without it!

Not really withdrawn. They only stopped printing them, but they are still legal tender.

And they are sold (exchanged for smaller notes) above their nominal value

Collectors item 😁

A 1,000 baht bill is a whopping 30 dollars....Hardly a high value bill,And the 500 baht is worth 15 whole dollars

The point is 1000 thb is the highest nomination making it the preferred note for bribes. Out of interest, would it make any difference to you personally if the note was abandoned?

Just what I was thinking, hopefully this stupid idea will not pass first base.

Tourists won't want to carry big wads of 100 Bhat notes, and if they did pick pocketing would become bash and grab.

I don't use my UK Visa debit card often but I've used it without problems, including in September. I did use cash to buy my car in 2012, but that was because my sister in law wanted to see what that amount of bank notes looked like, between 700K and 800K I think. Now if I tried to do that in the UK I would have questions to answer.

Starting next year, no payments exceeding €3,000 will be permitted in the Netherlands.
And purchasing cars with cash has long been prohibited there.

Everyone will be scrutinised.
