Four people were killed and one seriously injured after a pickup truck crashed into the rear of an 18-wheel lorry on motorway 7 in Chonburi province early on 27 December 2025. The collision occurred at around 3.10am on the inbound carriageway to Pattaya at kilometre marker 91, in Bang Phra subdistrict of Si Racha district, leaving the pickup wrecked and trapping victims inside.

Police said the pickup, a four-door Nissan registered in Bangkok, slammed into the back of a white Hino lorry, registered in Saraburi, which was transporting a full load of rubber wood. The impact destroyed the front of the pickup and caused damage to the rear wheels of the trailer. Rescue teams were called to cut open the vehicle to recover those trapped inside.

According to investigators, the driver of the pickup was identified as Mr Natthasit, aged 34, who died at the scene with fatal neck, arm and leg injuries. A woman identified as Ms Saphawadee, aged 48, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was also pronounced dead. Two additional male passengers in the rear of the pickup were found deceased but had no identification documents.

One male passenger survived the crash with critical injuries and was rushed to hospital by the rescue unit from the Piew Yieng Thai Foundation in Si Racha. His identity was not immediately known. Emergency responders said the force of the collision left little chance for those seated in the front and rear of the pickup to escape.

The lorry driver, Mr Wattana, aged 48, told police he had been driving rubber wood from Bangkok to a factory in Rayong province when he heard a loud bang from behind, which he initially thought was a tyre explosion. After stopping to check, he discovered that the pickup had crashed into the rear of his vehicle at high speed. He immediately alerted police and rescue services.

Khaosod reported that police from the Highway Police Station at Khao Khiao said preliminary findings suggest the pickup driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the lorry. Officers are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and to complete legal procedures related to the case.

Key Takeaways

• Four people died and one was critically injured in a pickup-lorry collision on a Chonburi motorway.

• Police believe driver fatigue may have caused the pickup to crash into the rear of the 18-wheel lorry.

• Authorities are continuing investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.

Horrible

Fallen asleep is quite plausible at 3:10 AM.

Check for skid marks. Maybe none.

No long distance driving  in the night for me.

I myself witnessed such an accident just ahead of me during day time though.

Full  high speed crash without any forewarning or breaking to be noticed.

Lucky to be on the left lane.

My key takeaway: pickup driver causes the death of passengers by reckless driving

I see them every morning when I go for my 6 am walk. When they hit a straight stretch of road they put the pedal flat to the floor. Iresspective if there's parked cars or pedestrians walking where there no foot paths.

I saw some pics of the lorry they hit, big damage to the rear axle, that was a seriously high-speed accident!!

This was on the motorway.

When I see the wheels of the car, I already know enough.
And yes, I am already aware of the indignation; those wheels explain nothing, but still...

May Buddha bless them  -   RIP to the victims of a careless inattentive high speed driver, from the looks oif that pickup, he must have hit head on at a very high speed.  Those Nissan P/U's are built pretty solid, unlike the Kia's and Hyundai's, and it is completely torn apart.

I had the same thought on seeing them. The classic wheels of the modified smoke belching dangerous driving pickup.

Before Liverpool Lou comes along, yes, we know that is not evidence that it was modified or being driven dangerously, thank you very much. But one thing's for sure - that was doing some serious speed.

Nonsense.  All comparable pickups meet the same international safety standards.

As the OP clearly stated, the pickup rear-ended the lorry, there was no head-on collision.

This is a perfect example of why the wee hours are for sleeping.

It's just sheer dumb luck that the pickup rear ended a bigass lorry and not a van full of innocent travelers.  It's tragic that people died.  But it could have been a lot worse.

Your bizarre observation and deduction aside, when have I posted that?

Absent evidence, perhaps you're confusing me with another member.

Tough time understanding what a head-on collision is, eh?   A collision directly into the rear of another vehicle is not "head on" [sic].

Misstating what happened doesn't require the reader to be"reading between the lines" (an idiom that you haven't got the grasp of, either).

You can also hit a stationary object "head on" or "head first " if you prefer, which I, (in my obvious ignorance), understood the poster to infer,

Indeed...I have to agree.
