meaningful travel experiences while supporting sustainability

words only found in tacky brochures. Nobody really thinks this way , especially those virtue signalling tree huggers who ostensibly claim to

The BBC’s list may shape travel planning for 2026, particularly among visitors seeking destinations aligned with sustainability and community-focused tourism. The full list also included locations across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Oceania, underlining the broadcaster’s global scope.

I could not keep a straight face whilst reading that,

Who remembers the BBC's travel show on Sunday evenings? Frank and Nesta Bough enjoying free holidays to Tuscany and the like.

Can anybody remember why Frank and nesta where quietly removed from the show ?

Turned out Frank was another true BBC stalwart cocaine , cross dressing , S&M , prostitutes, not very sustainable behaviour, at least not when the public become aware

Yup, road an pedestrian safety isn't even an afterthought here, it is just dismissed as nonsense by the highly regarded Thai culture of "Me-First". The Thai people have no one but themselves to blame

  • Philadelphia and Phnom Phen. No wonder folks laugh at the BBC

Thailand can only dream of making 'walkability' ,, blocked and broken footpaths everywhere, high curbs with no ramps.....

Meanwhile, in the real world, most travelers are looking for cheaper beer and easier women.

Spoken as a single male?

There are other human beings you know. Married with/without children, women, couples who are’nt married but in a long term relationship, spring to mind.

A bit more niche would be wine connoisseurs or those seeking a particular activity based holiday that isn’t sex.

And why not ?, it obviously upsets you , but , single males are still allowed to have an opinion and express a preference as far as I am aware.

The last time I looked there were plenty of places available that cater for those, who for whatever reason, arrogantly like to consider themselves to be of a superior caliber to others.

So here's an idea, and brace yourself its pretty radical, why don't those quality tourists restrict themselves to places more appropriate to their requirements , and leave the more hedonistic resorts to those that enjoy them for the cheap beer and easy sex

Chicks, too... Because they know that they'll find the fun guys (and the fun times) where the beer is cheaper and the women are easier.

The audacity of the beeb, to favour Cambodia over the land of smiles. I expect TAT to instigate a lawsuit of at least $5bn immediately for the loss of face and the sabotage of tourism caused solely by not being included on the travel list!

Not so much "chicks" they will "get it " wherever they go but the middle aged menopausal women also have their needs, for them places like Kenya and Ghana fit the bill. In an unsurprising twist they are now being accused of exploiting the young lads who eventually fleece them out of their homes and life savings

No need, as you can see, the Thai chickens are coming home to roost. A lot of their bad behaviors are about to slap them right in the face.

...and you'll still he here, trapped, skint and wittering som nam-nah to yourself.

I think there is a "woke"LGBGT reason for including Philadelphia Didn't Reg Dwight aka Elton John sing a song about it for a related reason ( note, I used his real name to keep the "yaxley lennon" brigade placated,) they don't like assumed names , it triggers them

Never chose to live here, got stuck is more like it, living here is like living among the locals in the Ghettos of NYC or Chicago.

I enjoy it , learn to adapt , life will be a lot easier

Not for the first time I would question the accuracy of a report by the BBC. After many years visiting and then working in Thailand, and finally retiring here in 1993, it is still my favourite country in East Asia. Good infrastructure, friendly people, fine food, warm weather, warm women.

But, as was mentioned earlier, supply exceeds demand here, probably due to the illegality issue, So consumption of dog meat here has little to no bearing on the number of strays.

They used to round them up and export them from here , until some genius banned that rather effective solution ,without proposing an alternative

Hebrides (Scotland)

Well done Scotland! You have beaten Bangkok.

At least you do not destroy your Viking cultural heritage like Thailand does to Hindu and Buddhist deities.

Who walks? It is too friggin hot?

But when I did walk - Mad Dogs and Englishmen... - up Soi 71 to the electronics shop it was very pleasant and not treacherous.

Some people like to go walking in the evening, even with their kids in a stroller, so have to walk in the road becoz of blocked footpaths, as with people in wheelchairs, but of course you are only thinking of yourself. init.

Exactly, breaks my heart to see someone in a wheelchair having to wheel themselves down a dangerous road because heartless Thai's could care less about them, and are blocking sidewalks and/or Zebra crossings. Saw a guy with this exact issue last month, where the sidewalk was blocked, and several cars illegally parked (red/white curb) blocking one lane, so the guy in the wheelchair was wheeling himself down the 2nd lane, I blocked the lane for him to safely get through, as everyone else was trying to run him over. All it does is enforce my hatred for "Thai Culture", these people are sickening.

The number one problem for Thailand is the strong baht. So despite border Wars, Trumps Tariffs, changing government's etc the £ falls and falls and I think it dropped below 42 baht to 41 last week. For Tourists thats not good nevermind ATM charges of over £5 a time etc. For younger tourists nevermind oldies etc Cambodia or Vietnam offers more value.

That's got nothing to do with the comment I replied to.

Ok if you say so. ???

Who cares what the BBC and its shameful history has to say.....I don't for one.

No mention of anywhere in Vietnam.

Vibrant Cities, ancient culture, beautiful beaches, magnificent scenery, and regional climates to suit everyone's taste.

The BBC is not the reliable source of information that it once was.

PS.

Beautiful women.

To be fair, it’s just an opinion piece. One man’s holiday heaven is another man’s holiday hell. If you’re looking for action, then the Hebrides isn’t ideal, for example.

Like every travel piece ever written, take what you want from it and ignore the rest. Inevitably all of them are written with rose tinted glasses on. Hence sleaze ridden becomes vibrant night life.

I've no desire to visit any of the places on that list. I've visited the riverside area in Phnom Penh back in early 2020, and it's the only place I've visited in SE Asia where I felt unsafe. It felt like I was stuck in a zombie apocalypse.

PP is traffic choked, air polluted and not particularly pretty. Some good restaurants though and of course cheap draughts.

Techno Airport looks nice but ... overkill?

But what do you expect from the BBC (reverse 322 for your skull and bones) ?

Great riverside walkway though .......... goes on for miles ........

Worried about traffic? Get a room on the riverside and never need transport, you can walk everywhere.

Of course there are single males who want cheaper beer and easy sex. I have no problem with that and went through that phase in my own life, as probably most males do.

I think the issue I had with the post to which I replied, was the word “MOST” travelers want cheaper beer and easy sex. IMHO that is not true. And I gave some examples of demographic groups that might want something different.

Not sure why it triggered such a response from you tbh.
