Received at my U.S. bank on Friday 1/2/26 as expected.

SWIFT transfer initiated on Friday not yet been received here. Usually arrives ~ 10:30 AM.

Banks here have been closed since Wed last week so expect things to take a while to catch up.

January 5th and, no, I have not gotten mine yet.

I submitted my SSA Form 7126 the day after I received it, and I've checked my PO box a few times in October/November in case a follow-up form showed up, and nothing arrived, so I'm assuming my first SSA 7126 was processed. But who knows. 🙄 Give it another couple of days I guess. In the past I've received payments as late as the 7th.

You've got a point there regarding Thai banks on vacation for New Years.

we both sent our 7162 forms in two times, even though the Philippine Embassy sent me an email that said they were suspended for 2025. I got my deposit on the second, I use Bangkok Bank with ACH transfer through the New York Branch. Wives deposit comes by IDD method to KrungThai bank, in five years it has never been late. Going to the KrungThai bank tomorrow if nothing comes in by the end of the day

I sent forms to the PI in early September, and to the USA in October. I got an email from the US that budget cuts have caused the normal operations to go much slower, but that they will continue to send checks even if your 7126 form is not rcvd.

I have rcvd. my payment on Jan 2nd.

Mine goes to a US bank so it was right on time. There was no 2.8% increase so I'm assuming it will hit next month.

SSA shows it was transferred on the 2nd but Bangkok Bank says "maybe tomorrow..."

Arrived in my US bank on the 2nd, with an increase of 2.8 percent; "the timing of your increase depends on your date of birth".

That is only if you get it deposited in the US, foreign deposits come in on the third of the month.

I got mine deposited in Bangkok Bank on the second, but my deposit is ACH through the branch in New York, you probably are getting yours by IDD, which is what my wife has and she has not gotten hers yet either, guess will just have to wait for a few days.

IME, Direct Deposit in a U.S. bank occurs on the 3rd, unless the 3rd is a holiday/weekend. Hence we got the January payment on the 2nd.

Again, in my case, I received the new 2026 payment as outlined in my benefits letter, which was delivered to my address here a few weeks ago.

You received your COLA increase letter in the mail last month?

I haven't gotten my Bangkok Bank deposit for this month yet. I assume it will arrive tomorrow since it was a big holiday. My Soc Sec says paid on the 2nd. IF there was a problem with form 7162, would there likely be some sort of notice on the My Soc Sec site warning me of an upcoming problem or would the Feb payment not showing up being the first time I would know there is a problem. I did the phone call method on Sept 2nd. I have received nothing since then by mail or on my site stating there was an issue. I'm assuming it's all good, but who knows. 🤷

I got my personal Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) notice online in the message section of My Social Security. I didn't get anything by post. Did others get it by post?

Ditto for my wife who gets her SSA via IDD to Bkk Bk. It will probably show-up on 6 Jan.

Mine always arrives on the 3rd, deposited directly to SCB. Nothing so far this month.

For folks using IDD to a Thai bank the payment will post over the next day or two.....the holidays has just slowed things down.

Today/5 Jan was the first day back to work for "headquarters type bank folk....Bank of Thailand folk".....no doubt "non-ACH" incoming foreign payments are backlogged in the Thai banking system. Personally, I wouldn't waste any phone calls or visits to your Thai bank asking "where is my "IDD" SSA/mil retirement/VA payment" as you'll just get a "I don't know, maybe tomorrow, etc., type answer." Give it a few more days.

Yes. The payment you receive in January 2026 is for December 2025, according to SS. The payment you get in February is for January, and so on.

I would recommend anyone getting payments from Uncle Sam regularly, especially where foreign accounts are concerned, set up a US account for receiving them, and then do your own foreign transfer from there. Yeah, it takes an extra day or two, but . . . Personally, I dread the the thought of having to deal directly with US gov't. This way if you have a problem with, for instance, Bkk Bank, on the US side you are dealing with a bank and you can let the two sides work it out. It avoids a potential Federal Case.

I would recommend USAA, if you can qualify. Been with them a decade or so, never had an issue, even though I use that account for nothing other than transfer in - transfer out within a few days. I had to call them once for something or other, and from talking to them I got the impression a lot of people on SS use them the same way. These days US banks are getting a little cocky, sending notices like "you are not using your credit card enough, if you don't do something about that we'll lower your credit line."

Yes via post to my address in Thailand.

That's a concern. I never got my form 7162 via post this year. I have every other year. I didn't get this COLA letter either. My address has been the same for 25+ years. I hope my address isn't somehow an issue. Thanks for letting me know.

My SWIFT transfer cleared BBL on Monday, 1/5/26 at 17:55. It usually clears ~ 09:00 next business day, so about 9 hours later than usual.

Yes. From SSA in Wilkes-Barre, so they have my proper address.

Also received a message from mySSA (12/28 email) saying I had a new message, which was also about the 2026 COLA.

I've always been led to believe that, for example, the January 2 payment is for January, so in advance.

Correction: my wife tells me I DID get a COLA letter a while back. It's a good thing one of us still has remnants of a memory. 🤦‍♂️

This way posturing Congress members can shock the world by saying "The gov't is sending your tax money to dead people!" You have to survive the entire month to get the payout.

Maybe request a posthumous transfer biggrin

How do set up direct deposit with Bangkok Bank NY?

  • Author

Social Security sends my deposit through Bangkok Bank New York. It is called an ACH transfer. You would have to set this up with your Bangkok Bank in Thailand. There is a form for going this route cant remember the number. There is also IDD transfers which do not go this route. Different forms for both. Bangkok Bank is the only bank that can use the New York routing system
