When I was 18 I was still in high school, studying. Simply no time to go on holidays. During school/university breaks I either had assignments or I was working on construction sites to make some pocket money. Simply because I had 10 more years of University ahead of me.

I had a good time though. Poor but happy. Same as all my friends around me.

One of the problem these days is that kids are on social media all the time and think they must take part of the glamour world right now. Like anyone else does. You are not part of BlingBling right NOW then you dumb. And you are missing out on LIFE.

The classical value system (study, work, save, health, social contacts,..) never got impregnated on them.

Thats not only their fault. We were supposed to teach them values.

We just read the sensationalised and extreme things and then extrapolate that to the whole population.

Do you imagine that every kid in his village was a drug smuggler? There are always going to be outliers. The kid was likely up to no good for many years. Designer clothes or at least fake designer clothes. What normal seventeen year old kid is holidaying in Thailand in beachfront accommodation, eating steak and chips and drinking Evian mineral water? Please don't tell me he worked and saved up...

I travelled, as a backpacker. Humble and made many friends along the way. The kid is a wrong 'un. Hopefully he mends his ways.

This doesn't make sense. Making threats against him while physically in Thailand - sure - but as soon as he left Thailand how exactly would they get to him or his family? They'd have to 1. Find out wh

Nor do I. Pathetic excuse

Unless a family member was threatened with severe repercussions if he did not do as told!

yes "fishy"

As you now require prescription to buy Marijuana ... i'd be interested to know which dispenserary in Thailand gave him this amount of Marijuana. It needs to be traced back.

The fact Thai authorities keep missing these cases on their side is a bit dubious.

The claim they are letting other countries know is not true at all, and not following any sort of regulation.

What 17 year old has access to his passport? Some great parenting there. Not as if he needed it for age verification to go to the pub.

No. Because the authorities here and in the mules destination countries have been blindsided by the lack of Thai government control and law enforcement which has created a boom in the useful idiot mule industry.

Try and think outside your hazy wee box.

I prefer beer Thank you!!

Lax enforcement.....Please tell me when the Thai Authorities ever effectively enforced laws?

Blindsided, you talk like this is an epidemic. Even before weed was legal in Thailand, people we trying to carry it out of Thailand.

Thanks for expressing your belief. I’m sure it will be taken into account!

The whole theory that Thai authorities at security are tipping of countries is a nonsense, and not true at all. Impossible for this to happen.

So question begs how are they evading Thai security so easily ?

Lastly, why is this a problem seemingly for Brits ? They are being stopped everywhere, middle east, eastern Europe, Mainland Europe, etc ....

Finally where are they getting huge bulks of marijuana from when we now are supposed to be signed of by a chemist ?

There are too many unanswered questions questions.

The young boy travelled to Thailand alone ?

Who was the British man mentioned ?

What is the boys background apart from fishing, good schooling, a job or no job, keeping bad company?

I hope all this has been looked into.

Was he talked into this by the British man and was not bright enough to refuse ? Could he be painfully ignorant? Could he be mentally deficient?

No way he knew what the rules are and just a excuse like that lady who was having a baby and got out after a begging bowl case by the mother.Leave him there and he learns a lesson on how to be stupid

TThere are no unanswered questions. You see many of these similar Brits in Thailand. Go speak to them.

If he is innocent, I mean if he was really forced into it, we must say 'Poor lad'. Of course, this is a big 'If'.

It is known that the jail conditions in Thailand are grim. But, one can easily guess that the jail conditions in a Middle Eastern country are probably no better.

None that a proper investigation can not / will not be able to answer in the future. Note I used the word "proper."

Easy to prove or disprove. However, what is the relevance to the case?

Easy to find out. I'm guessing a relative or friend of the family.

Irrelevant to the case. Good people are capable of doing bad things, and often do.

So do I, but only for the purpose of arresting others involved.

Or, could be be greedy and he took his chances?

Might be hot times in that Qatar jail for sure. Will this experience make him smarter?

IMO I doubt it.

No one issues a credible threat against your life and then permits you to engage in low-level smuggling of cannabis.... that story is a pure fiction. If you're gonna lie when getting caught at least upgrade it to coke or heroin.
