Emailing Thai Businesses and Retailers

Featured Replies

Through the years I've occasionally sent email questions to Thai businesses that have English versions on their Websites. Some are well-known companies. The response rate is close to zero in vast majority of cases.

I've also tried using translation apps to cut/paste and send the email bilingually. Still very rarely do I get a response. Sometimes the phone is better (I can speak Thai enough to usually get by), but even then it's very hit and miss. I'm posting this to see if others have similar low response rates to email queries.

I came to the conclusion some years ago that emails to companies don't work here. I resort to LINE now and, more often than not, get a response.

In my experience, business in Thailand do not respond to emails.

The one time I got a response, it was hostile and dismissive. They also used a fake name with a fake title “Dr. Johnny Walker.”

Not very imaginative.

They do, have been working here for 10 years and email multiple times per day and get replies.

When someone relates a common experience in Thailand there’s always someone who jumps in and says “i’ve been here 15 years and never been scammed by a tuk-tuk driver,” or “i opened bank accounts on tourist visas all the time,” or…what you said.

But let me give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are talking about established business relationships. That’s not what we are talking about. We’re talking about contacting businesses with which we have no prior affiliation to pose a query or apply for a job.
