DOJ probing Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over alleged conspiracy to impede immigration agents: report

The investigation is in its early stages and appears to stem from statements made by Walz and Frey denouncing the nearly 3,000 of federal law enforcement agents deployed to the Minneapolis area in recent weeks, a source told CBS News

“When the governor or the mayor threaten our officers, when the mayor suggests that he’s encouraging citizens to call 911 when they see ICE officers, that is very close to a federal crime,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News

This is hard to understand. People often call others corrupt, but show no evidence. Urging people not to do something illegal is illegal.

  • Highly volatile situation, all under investigation . The Gov of Minnesota should let ICE Enforcement into the jails. End the sanctuary policy .

  • I hope it is true. "Subpoenas are likely to be issued in the probe, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News". https://www.cbsnews.com/news/justice-department-investigating-tim-walz-jacob-frey-

18 U.S.C. § 372 (conspiracy to prevent federal officers from discharging duties via force, intimidation, or threats).

"Get the eff out of our city "sounds about right for a investigation.

Gov Walz of Minnesota has made related strong statements, warning that the operations threatened public safety, calling them predictable and avoidable, and preparing the National Guard amid protests and unrest. More highly charged rhetoric to investigate.

Google ai overview: Walz statement

"We do not need any further help from the federal government to Donald Trump and Kristi Noem, you've done enough. There's nothing more important than Minnesota safety. I've issued a warning order to prepare the Minnesota National Guard... Minnesota will not allow our community to be used as a prop in a national political fight"

Is this Governer Walz

chappie the same fellow who ran against Trump in last years election?

I ask because I simply cannot believe that the Department of Justice, especially under its inestimable current leadership, would allow itself to be involved in any political retribution...

I have no idea what you saying here, so I had to ask ChatGPT

Sure — let’s unpack it carefully, because this sentence is doing a few things at once.

Who the writer is referring to

  • “Governor Walz” refers to Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota.

  • “the same fellow who ran against Trump” refers to Donald Trump.

👉 Important clarification:

Tim Walz did not run against Trump for president.

So the writer is either:

  • mistaken,

  • being sarcastic,

  • or loosely implying Walz is a prominent political opponent of Trump (even if not an actual election rival).

What the writer

means

 overall

The passage is skeptical and ironic, not literal. Rewritten in plain English:

“Is this Governor Walz the same guy who opposed Trump politically? Because if that’s the case, I find it hard to believe that the Department of Justice — which I greatly respect — would involve itself in politically motivated revenge.”

In other words, the writer is saying:

  • They are questioning a claim (likely about an investigation, charge, or legal action).

  • They are suggesting that some people believe the DOJ is being used for political retribution.

  • But the writer personally says they don’t believe the DOJ would do that — especially “under its inestimable current leadership” (which is praise, possibly sincere or possibly ironic depending on tone).

Key phrases explained

🔹 “chappie”

A casual, slightly dismissive British-style term meaning “guy” or “fellow.”

It can sound condescending, depending on tone.

🔹 “I simply cannot believe…”

This signals disbelief — the writer is distancing themselves from accusations of corruption or revenge.

🔹 “political retribution”

This means using government power to punish political opponents — a very serious accusation in democracies.

What’s

really

 going on rhetorically

The writer is doing one (or both) of these:

  1. Defending the DOJ by saying:
“I don’t buy the idea that this is a political hit job.”

  2. Subtly mocking conspiracy thinking, implying:
“Surely we’re not suggesting the DOJ is taking revenge just because someone opposed Trump.”

Depending on context (where this was written and by whom), the praise of DOJ leadership may be genuine or dry sarcasm.

Bottom line

  • The writer is not stating a fact, but expressing skepticism.

  • The question about Walz is rhetorical, not informational.

  • The core message is:
“I don’t believe the Justice Department would engage in political revenge, regardless of partisan rivalries.”

If you’d like, you can paste the full paragraph or article, and I can tell you whether the tone is sincere, sarcastic, or polemical — those nuances matter a lot here

Why would it be retribution when Walz is likely the single biggest reason Trump won?

Do you think it is appropriate for elected officials to be stoking anti-ICE violence?

Gestapo Goons.

Department of "justice".....justice....laughable....Department of retribution for any who have the courage to stand up to the masked thugs roaming the streets pepper spraying beating and yes killing american citizens.

And the cult cheers it on.

Maked "thugs" in ICE uniforms apprehending and deporting criminal illegal aliens, including over twenty thousand sex offenders.

I find the left howling about the masks hilarious.

Why are they Gestapo goons,is it because the communist/marxist groups and far left politicians says it so or is because they're wearing masks to hide their Identities

When a Mayor demands Fed LE to Get the eff out of our city sounds like a threat to me .

It's because they are generally a bunch of untrained thugs who get a big bonus to join and then think they are tough guys who can threaten people who dare to film them or protest their presence.....if they are so proud of their "work" then by all means take off the masks and wear a name tag like police all over america have done for decades. Some cult members might want to read a few books about the German Gestapo and see if they see anything that sounds familiar.

Just like the Police "volunteers" on Walking Street?

Are they still there?

Its ok than for the Minnesota National guard faces to be blurred but Special federal targetted op's don't have a right the same as other enforcement groups.

google ai overview

"Minnesota National Guard faces are blurred in some photos to protect their anonymity, especially for sensitive roles or during public safety missions where they interact with the public, preventing potential targeting or disruption to their civilian lives, while also signaling their specific role (like supporting law enforcement during unrest) and distinguishing them from other agencies. It's a standard practice for operational security and personal safety, allowing them to fulfill duties without revealing identities".

Please provide the name of the book that explains how the German Gestapo was rounding up criminal illegal aliens for deportation, and how German citizens were protesting it.

Why does the left want to know their names?

Interesting that these anti-ICE protests are happening in a blue state/city where the local cops are told not to assist in the removal of criminals who are in the US illegally. Indeed courts release said criminals rather than handing them over to federal authorities for deportation. This is insane. Along with this the governor and mayor call ICE the Gestapo who are invading the state and people should resist.
