Revving up your motorbike

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I wonder what the fetish , the pleasure , is to revving up your motorbike at traffic lights so everyone looks at you !

Ok I can understand the young Arab males s doing this because they are attention seekers and young , but please a 60yo male riding or renting a big bike making noise and looking around to see if everyone is looking...please

Granted, this happens mostly in tourist areas such as Pattaya or Phuket but please keep it to yourself

You don't need to impress me by revving up your bike stationary at red traffic lights ,I couldn't careless

Dressed in black singlet jacket riding a Harley Davidson or big bike making noise screaming through Jomtien with bang bang sounds looking around to see if everyone looks at you

"They're looking at me " you say gleefully to your old red faced self

"Everyone's looking at me " on this big bike !!!!

Wow !!

At the very least they are immature, trying to impress people with a loud exhaust, often no helmet which shows a low IQ

  • Clearly you do or you wouldn't have started this topic?

  • The other annoying thing they like to do is replace the quiet stock exhaust with an aftermarket noisy one.

Most of which are supposedly illegal, but it's not enforced. They made the rounds to some customization shops not long ago and supposedly confiscated some illegal exhausts, but it was probably just for show and to collect envelopes.

I hate noisy MBs as much as anyone but.......it also warns people who maybe aren't paying attention. Imagine for a second you're crossing the road with your shiny new zimmer, ear buds in listening to Dolly Parton or maybe Elvis, not a care in the world. When you collide with the MB you couldn't hear because it was quiet.

Noisy exhausts saves lives.

I have some tolerance for these throttle revving <deleted>. Remember that 50% of the population have 2-digit IQ's.

They're usually the same ones that take off full-noise when the traffic light countdown gets to 4. They're performing a public service in this pathfinder role by volunteering to cause a hazard to red light jumpers, and occasionally take one for Team Darwin. coffee1

Noisy motorbikes are owned by people who want to be noticed. Probably a small penis syndrome issue. Harleys are a good example.

I bought a gold wing the first year they came out. It was so quiet you couldn't tell if it was running or not. They made it a bit louder the next year.

Which often results in the motor running lean and worse performance.

Revving the bike results in pleasurable vibrations to the crotch area, while simultaneously attracting the attention of strangers passing by, thus satisfying their exhibitionist urges.

It is linked to their personality, particularly impatience, an inability to stay calm and a lack of logic. Some may be substance dependent which will worsen the above traits.

The advent of scooters without clutch levers or a neutral gear has hampered but not completely foiled the revvers.

Yes, maybe, but there's noisy and there's ear-damaging noisy!

Maybe people would survive easier if they didn't cross roads wearing earbuds. Loud noise has it's place on racetracks and at sporting events. Not on roads in residential or business areas. It's plainly showing off there, to people it doesn't impress. There's a place for almost everything.

Well, as a tourist, you're probably not aware that most Harleys are owned by expats who live here permanently, and they are not rented bikes. A lot of these particular expats are happy that in Thailand, there is no enforcement of decibel limits on exhaust pipes. It's a mindset of Harley riders that will never change. Technologically, they are metallic junk, with no purpose other than to create unnecessary noise and give the riders a hard-on facilitated by the excessive vibrations. The people who ride them are selfish pr**ks with no thought for fellow humans who prefer a quieter environment. They should be banned or silenced.

I lived next to a condo where one ***** used to start his Harley up every day in the underground carpark, so loud it reverberated through my rented townhouse next door. If management will not do anything, there's no chance anyone else will. Where I currently live, a Thai person owns a Harley, which he starts up anytime he likes, day and night.

Get used to it. Nothing can be done.

Before someone beats me to it, there are plenty of Thai riders who take out their mufflers and pollute the environment with excessive noise, too. Usually, it's young idiots who think the louder a bike sounds, the faster it goes.

Spot on, in fact this is not just farang issue, Thais the same or worse. I recently moved next to a road which is straight and hardly any traffic, day and night these idiots come and test their loud exhausts there, young, old, local or farang...., 99% of them illegal exhausts...!

I was going to find a policeman to say if you come and wait in this stretch of the road, can stop and fine at least 20 of these a day, or else I give you a 1000 baht, would that work...!? I know I still lose the 1000 but maybe it discourages some of these morons...

And those thinking more noise means safer vehicle, how is that premis only applies to you, how about every car and bike out there use the same logic, do you then think anybody can hear your exhaust amongst all of that...?, a truly selfish approach, these people have no idea what it means to live in a "society", and respecting others ...! 🤔

I would argue that loud exhausts are a danger on the road. When an unmuffled bike or Harley rides past people with an open throttle, it has shock value. It can startle people. It makes me angry (having my ears attacked) and gives me an adrenaline rush, making me want to confront the idiots if I catch them at the lights. I haven't done it yet, but I've been close.

And who's fault is that?

If they care so much about safety why do so many of them not even wear helmets? They don't make their bikes loud enough to cause tinnitus and set off car alarms because they care about safety, and it's illegal for a reason.

The legal ones don't sound nearly as annoying and still make them easily heard from a distance, but that's apparently not annoyingly loud enough for most of them. Also, have you ever heard of this invention called a horn?

This is simply one of the little quirks about Thailand you learn to live with.

Beeping my horn is not something I'd advise doing regularly.

In case any Pattaya gays are reading this ..the mb stands for motorbike not moneyboy. As I originally thought

95% of them are brown North Africans or Middle Easterners. I hear them every night from midnight to 6 am If you spend some time in the Arab area of Pattaya, it’s full of them. Since marijuana arrived, pattaya is flooded with these young brown sub-humans. They obviously can’t handle curves but can’t even go fast on a straight, so they just rev the engine.
