Why did the forum close down for posting discussions?

Featured Replies

It seemed like it was 1 whole day without warning the forum went on a read only!

It was very unusual, no explanation as to why .

Has anyone else noticed this recently?

I noticed it. No doubt other regulars too.

Maybe start a thread about it in forum support?

There already is one.

Probably stressed out, and needed a day off from all the silliness. Or wanted to give people a 'pause to think', what if, AN didn't exist ...

... yes, there is a life elsewhere.

I'll wait for it 🙄

Forum support has said it was a ’technical issue’ the forum went read only for quite a while but is now ok

No further explanation offered.

No abuse for 24 hours.

I think this is the first time that it went read only...other times it just disappeared...after failed ’updates'

'upgrades' or ' regular maintenance '

It was read only for a significant period of time.

I was surprised that it wasn't explained on the forum's facebook page.

The problem with not doing that is that many users (including me) wondered if the problem was localized to them as the site was shown as up on the usual check it sites.

Yes it would have been nice to know it was a forum issue and not a user issue. I was quite confused for a while, why I couldn't reply to any thread. ???

I went to the usual rabbit holes ,other forums looking for answers. I even went on X ,nothing .No notice, no mention .

I also saw that , I tried to report it on the " contact support " page , but that was out of action .

Yeah, weirdly there was absolutely nothing (like other forums, etc.) about it posted online elsewhere.

If there had been, at least users would have known it was from the site and not them.

You could see no one was posting so after a couple hours it was apparent that it effected everyone, maybe a secret what the cause was

I emailed them, and they said technical issues, which was okay by me. Just needed to wait a bit for them to work things out, just as many other websites do.

Yeah I suspected that but I didn't know.

I still don't understand why the problem wasn't posted on their facebook,

Seems like common courtesy.

It was quite a weird situation that I hadn't seen before.

Now that it's resolved I have less than zero interest in a technical explanation of what happened.

Similar to watching sausage being made.

I quite enjoy watching sausages being made.

I was shocked to discover that there was nothing on the American Ferret Association, Inc. website about the issue.

I don't even like to eat sausage because I know what's in it.

Good one.
Be careful with ferrets in California.

I meant other Thailand related forums.

I know of them but I only post here.

Thanks for taking this in the way it was meant, as a joke. Anyone else may have taken offence.

The Fleet’s lit up

"At the present moment, the whole fleet is lit up. When I say 'lit up', I mean lit up by fairy lamps.  We've forgotten the whole Royal Review ... we've forgotten the Royal Review ... the whole thing is lit up by fairy lamps. It's fantastic, it isn't the fleet at all. It's just ... it's fairyland, the whole fleet is in fairyland."

A few weeks ago the forum was a world press setup up wizard. Now it ended in the state of read only. I wish the people running the site would provide an explanation. Was it the lack of technician chops?? Or hacked?

At that time, so I have heard,

I had fallen behind in my Topics posting.

Therefore, TV was just waiting for me to catch up, lest...

I get too far behind.

Sometimes, one needs a short break.

It's a free forum so there's no real need for them to explain any further.

Now, if you were paying for over 24-hours of "read-only" service, then maybe you have a case.

There is a commercial reason the forum exists but in a sense the MEMBER BASE is what they're selling, right?

Also when there is planned outage they always announce that advance.

Assuming this wasn't planned -- there was still a way to inform their users.

My daughter and a group of her friends, as part of her media studies course at University, has just made a film on sausages being made - specifically the Northern Thai ones we have up here in Chiang Rai. Yummy!

I stand with the owners on this. I contribute zero baht to the site (sorry!), and I rarely chime in these days since there are better places to be. To be honest, I care very little about the future direction of the forum, but it is sad to watch - it feels like it’s in its death throes. So let it be, and let's be kind about it
