EVA air warning

Featured Replies

Flown with them a few times in the past. Good airline. Today booked with Agoda but when checking luggage allowance surprised to learn only 7kg in cabin and no checked in baggage allowed. Cancelled immediately.

I think that should be an Agoda warning, not EVA.

Always best to book directly with the airline.

  • I have been burned by third party booking in the past. When they are overbooked or some nonsense, the people who booked directly with the airline, vs booking sites, they give priority to the direct bo

Agoda might be trying to extract a baggage fee. Always check with the airline

I think you could be right. I went on their website and booked pretty much the same flights and baggage allowance was 2x23kg plus 7g onboard.

That 7g ain't gonna get you too far! :)

The 7kg has always been in the fine print. I've flown eva 12 times since 2006 and am. Currently flying and booked with them. I've never seen charge for nominal checked baggage and when I check a new reservation using the eva website, I see checked baggage is free. Maybe agoda affects things. What flight cities are you booked

I fly with Eva on average 4 times per year (for 20+ years) on the LHR-BKK route. The allowance is most certainly 2 x 23KG checked plus 1 7KG cabin plus you are allowed a separate laptop bag. Until a couple of years ago it used to be 1 x 32KG checked baggage.

They can be quite hot at check-in on your checked baggage weight. I haven spoken to them at check-in on a couple of occasions as I have been over as I tend to only check one suitcase. They usually let it slide as I am EVA gold card but a couple of times I have had to remove items. Every time they have said 'get it down to 23 something' ie 23.9KG is ok.

In theory with the Gold card I can check-in 3 items totalling 69KG but I've never need to.

I flew BKK-LHR with Eva about a month ago. One suitcase was 23.1kg and the other was over 24kg but they let it go. They didn't even ask about my backpack which was over 8kg when I weighed it at home.

Also, I booked BKK-LHR-NCL with trip.com and was informed that I would have to self-transfer my suitcases from T2 to T5 at LHR. At check-in they said no problem we can send them straight to NCL. Thank god as the transfer from T2 to T5 was horrendous even without suitcases. ☹️

The flight was less than half full though. Got a whole 3 seats to myself 😊

Maybe the "find lowest fare" function on Agoda chose the no checked baggage option with EVA's booking system? Many airlines offer this option as their cheapest economy fare.

I used agoda for hotel bookings until their website became too unwieldy with too many options, a decent reward scheme that became useless, plus NOT including taxes in any room booking preamble.

I can't imagine using agoda for airfares as well. I prefer to use ita matrix to find a cheap fare, and then book on the chosen airline's own website/app.

Plenty great deals were available in late January into February. Cathay Pacific BKK-MAN via HKG r/t was £580.

With Easter coming up next, the prices have already doubled.

EVA's cheapest fare option allows one piece of checked luggage (23kg).

The bolded bit is down to your settings which can be changed to show the full price up front.

Fair enough. I wonder why Agoda came up with a fare that EVA don't have?

OK, thanks. I will take a look. I use booking now as they've always shown inclusive pricing up front. I know they're both owned by the same company, I just prefer the booking process and their app is less cluttered

Or perhaps Agoda has been given the allocation with no baggage allowance at that price. But if you’re right it means Agoda pocketing the add on cost. Not nice!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Well spotted. I mean 7k

I wondered that too. After the booking I clicked on baggage link and said no checked bags allowed on this booking. So I cancelled immediately. Very silly.

I get 2 x 70 pound bags for free every time I fly EVA. And I take a carry-on, a backpack, and another small bag in the cabin. No issues at all. But ghen again, that's business class. Cattle class may be different.

And I could not find a no baggage fare on their website even for basic economy. 2x23 kg is exceptionally good.

Agoda is a notorious decoy machine. Same for hotels where they show prices that will rise like 17% before finishing.

Not if you select "display total stay" in the settings.

I have been burned by third party booking in the past. When they are overbooked or some nonsense, the people who booked directly with the airline, vs booking sites, they give priority to the direct bookers.

When it is cancelled or delayed, you can deal direct with the airline, and not be on the phone with someone with the third party companies. I guess you could buy a new ticket with the airline, and then get refunded by the other agencies, but that is an unneeded hassle. The few extra coins saved isn't worth the peace of mind of dealing direct.

I get all sorts of perks in First Class, unlike the cheap charlies who fly business

OTOH, I'm a cheap bastard. I just can't forget spending so many hours of my youth shoveling up dog crap for $0.75 an hour, then pay $50-100-200 an hour more for a slightly better meal and a more comfortable seat. It just grates on me. So I'm an unapologetic cattle classer, and I'll leave that much more to my nieces and nephews when I'm gone.

That did go out the window when I was flying on the company dime. But those days are long over.

Edit: Related to the OP, I've had it go both ways when Orbitz said "bag included" and the airline hit me up anyway, and when Orbitz said "contact the airline to pay the baggage fee" and there wasn't one. Go figure... They still get it right 95 times out of 100.

Yeah, its worth it to me though to look at the suckers in business class. They think they are better than the "cattle" in Economy. Many times I take a bit of my Creme Brulee then go over to Business Class and offer my remnants so they can get the feel of what its like.

I'm also a frequent flyer with them. Back in the days when 3.5" internal hard drives weighed about the same as a full grown wet cat, I removed 4 of them and stuck them in my pants pocket.

Nonsense. No first class in EVA. Most airlines did away with first a long time ago, excluding the Arab ones of course. You obviously wouldn't know that, never haven flown even business.

I wouldnt fly EVA, its a budget airline.

I prefer JAL or Singapore, pricing keeps the riff raff out. You obviously didnt know that, never having flown First Class or even looked.

It's an excellent airline. Flown to Taipei loads of times with them (was my preferred airline on that route). They introduced Premier class I believe +20 years ago. I always flew Premier class to Taipei for comfort.

1992 Evergreen Deluxe Class, the first airline in the world. Damn it was great. TPE/SFO on a 747 and those seats were at the front of the plane. I have sat in the very first row before with miles of legroom. You were actually forward of the pilots. One of the great deals in aviation.

I'm a tall guy, and the leg room in Premier is superb. Seat also wide and comfortable.

  • 3 weeks later...

Use the airfare comparison websites to gain information and then book the ticket on the website of the airline itself.

Of course, doesn't make sense looking at it if you can't afford it anyway
