Ahhhh nice post-workout burn as I drink my strawberry and banana protein smoothie. The great thing I like about having my own gym, I don't have to wait on anyone else. My resistance training is about moving from an exercise for a muscle group, and then moving to another exercise for an opposing muscle group. Max time training is between 10 to 12 minutes max. I'm constantly moving.

What's the price of a annual fitness center / gym nowadays? The home gym cost me around 14K THB. I'll make up the price in a year and get more exercise because I don't have to travel to get to the gym, plus saving the cost of petrol.

UK council housing

Just because someone lives in a "council house" does not make them paupers or automatically claiming social security system handouts. I agree that many are but NOT all. A "council tenant" is just the same as a tenant in a non council rented house.

I completely agree with your post. It is essential that we demonstrate compassion for those living in council housing, as they often find themselves among the most vulnerable victims of an inequitable capitalist system. Our empathy can foster understanding and drive change for a more just society.

Calculating your monthly cost is simple and effective: just multiply the daily rate by the number of days in the month. This straightforward approach ensures clarity and precision in your budgeting.

How about taking just 5 minutes and reflecting on your own life? Let us know what your own weaknesses are, talk about your own fallacies, and talk about something that you can actually affect change upon, rather than judging all of humanity around you, which is really tiresome, ridiculously judgmental, and incredibly lazy intellectually.

This post is truly exceptional, coming from someone who embodies understanding and compassion without ever passing judgment on others. Your kindness is inspiring—you truly are a saint.

Compassion and kindness builds the heart and is a form of charity, sitting in judgment of others tears the heart down, creates ugliness and pessimism, and make one a curmudgeon. And nobody likes a grouch.

Well I assume that that was satire. I do try to avoid passing judgment on individuals and fellow forum members, for the most part. I keep my judgment for incredibly toxic and corrupt politicians who are consuming oxygen without returning any benefit to society. In other words I try only to criticize reptiles.

Beautiful post and thankyou for showing empathy

Although at times I do wonder why these people are in this situation relying on low cost rental from the government when they could be buying a home ..but .maybe they are on disability pension etc

You may have to be careful saying that ..I was actually in a electronic store jbhifi in Australia last week and was served by a young man who was looking like a *reptile"

He had his tongue sliced in two and scales on his face , I have no idea why , I guess he is allowed to look like that

But please don't offend reptile people

Nearly all of most farang ken on Pattaya have big bellies , sweating , puffing

Why don't you exercise if your over 60 this is the answer I'm looking for

I thought you doing the peeping tom thing into gents rooms in Flybird condo's (that you brag about often) was something that aroused you.

If they all get fit what will be your next kink ?

How about a gym series on a youtube channel? I could film it and GG dresses like Richard Symonds.

Maybe they do not earn enough to meet the mortgage requirements or have a rich sugar daddy and instead have a steady 9-5 job to pay the rent!

As usual a very useful useless and non erudite response from you!

Any chance of actually answering the question (says I tongue in cheek expecting only cr@p in response!) which was;

"Who is "Arnold" and what are "reps" in this context?"

Actually, my gym back in the US was cheaper than the one I joined in Chiang Mai back in the day. I should have gone this route years ago.

I asked Grok about the average annual cost of gyms in Chiang Mai. I'm right. My home gym will be paid for with the saving of not getting a fitness center membership. I've got a home gym for resistance training, a treadmill, and a sauna. I'm gold.

From Grok:
The average monthly cost for a fitness club or gym membership in Chiang Mai, based on current data as of early 2026, is approximately 1,287.50 Thai Baht (THB). This figure comes from Numbeo, a widely referenced crowdsourced cost-of-living database updated in February 2026, with reported prices ranging from 750 THB to 2,500 THB per month depending on the facility's location, amenities (e.g., air conditioning, modern equipment, classes, sauna), and target clientele (local vs. expat/tourist-oriented).

Other sources align closely:

  • Expatistan reports an average of 1,272 THB per month in the business district (data as of January 2025, but consistent with recent trends).

  • Various guides and user reports indicate monthly fees starting from around 700–900 THB for basic or local gyms (often non-air-conditioned) up to 1,750–2,500 THB for mid-to-premium options in malls or modern chains (e.g., Maxx Pro, Jetts).

  • Some high-end or specialized facilities (e.g., hotel-affiliated or boutique) exceed this, but they are not representative of the average.

To calculate the average annual price, multiply the monthly average by 12:

1,287.50 THB × 12 = 15,450 THB per year.

That's almost exactly what my home gym cost with shipping and setup. thumbsup

So he has never stopped talking?

A gym really is not needed in my experience. During the height of first covid lockdown from 1st April to 15th May 2020, I was in Hua Hin and Bangkok. Just about everything was closed; bars, restaurants etc. Even had the curfew from 10pm to 5am (later relaxed to 11pm to 4am). Each morning at 05:00am, I got up and walked either to the beach or parks. In that 6 weeks, I went from 95kgs to 87.5kgs. Felt great. Better sleep. Better food. A shame that swimming pools were closed though. Gyms didn't re-open until June IIRC.
