hua hin is pretty grim , its like a huge (gated) old peoples home for people who have forgotten how to enjoy themselves ( assuming they ever knew)

Its morbid neighbour Cha-am is as much fun as a hospice

And no doubt Soi Cowboy is a bore. 🥱

  • Urban myth. There is zero prostitution in Pattaya. This has been proven by local authorities there on many occasions.

In the 27,000 sex workers figure, are the wives and girlfriends included?

Pattaya would absolutely thrive even more than now without the sex trade.

How much of the money for all the new "massive development" has been generated from the sex trade? A lot, I'm guessing. Most, maybe.

So now the sex trade is no longer needed? I doubt it.

Whatever you say, ! I have not been there for over 25 years it was ok back then, but I have no idea what it's like now.

I didn't mention soi cowboy , why did you bring it up ?

Same as the 1,000 pounds for my Brit wife!

So, you pay your wife 10 000 Baht a month as a basic salary and you also pay her every time you bang her ?

Then you can dispense with the foreplay. Just climb aboard and do the deed. Wham-Bam Thank You Mame! After three marriages in the West, my concept of "love" was tossed out the window. I'd rather shell out 1000 THB for a hot bath and a quickie, well, back in the day. I don't need the emotional baggage that was required in Western relationships. Relationships with Thai women is just - different.

I am utterly shocked. I though the image of purity has been successfully maintained by effective PR and law and order. Who would have thought?

And according to single friends of mine who spend real time there, those were 2018 boardwalk prices. Everything has gone up. A lot.

The OPs post is about P4P sex scene in Pattaya, but that topic needs to be put into context with the rest of Thailand.

I thought Hua Hin was so-so. Not particularly my cup of tea.

We are talking about first timers. I had my love for Krabi back in the days, and honestly, Thailand is not that exotic or nice anymore, but it is my home! And not to forget the home of my wife, so that's why I'm still there.

Still enjoy the islands, and the easy going life as it is in Thailand, but it will never be the same again ever.

It is a very sad and pale shadow of what it was even a year or two ago. I spoke to a manager who said he is having a very hard time finding hot young things and young gals who are not hot. There are alot of old, fat and unattractive gals these days. And they look ALOT better with their clothes on!

And not to forget, a very convenient stop going south or back up again north.

Choice for the girls : Spend all night in a bar hoping someone buys you a few drinks to make few 100 Baht or get on with your life doing other things and visit a online customer for a few 1000 baht when required

Alan wicker was doing videos of patts 40 years ago ,sin city bla bla

Life was more easy and fun before, for sure.

Back when a motorbike was a motorbike, and not a computer where you need to read the F manual to start and ride

Beaches of spain was a clean sewer as well back in the days, and they recovered, so anything is possible.

Everyone I know, loves Hua Hin, and I didnt really thought it was that great when I lived there, but to my friends it was a nice change from every other destination they knew, and not to forget exotic. Location is everything, and Pattaya do have the perfect location, and got the infrastructure needed. Just need to clean up the a bit,

but a much smaller red-light area

That's what we discussing here, what would Pattaya be if they cleaned up their beaches and red light districts a bit?

I understand many here value the red light districts, but most people do not. My guess Pattaya would do great without the majority of bar mongers and sex tourists.

Rubbish. Prostitutes are in every culture.

how sad, you simply don't have the intellect to understand either te topic, my post, or Thai culture – you have a very rudimentary outlook on life.

1 minute ago, Hummin said:

I think I already said the very same thing, in my replies. The prostitution will not go away, but clean beaches, water, and not so dominant as it have been, and Pattaya will flourish without living up to being the biggest whore house in the world. There is a red line of replies from my first posts.

Whatever – you seem a bit disconnected from the topic and a bit slow on the uptake. I don't think you are saying anything relevant to the discussion.

Ai, I replied to one who stated Pattaya would loose if the prostitution disapeared, I disagreed.

Anyway, have a nice evening :D

You're coming at it from a Judao-Christian perspective where you believe sex for sale is bad.

But you clearly haven't crunched the numbers.

Absolute nonsense, Pattaya is visited for its natural beauty, lovely surroundings, quiet and healthy environment and considered a family destination of the top league.
There is no such thing like prostitution, corruption and all those other nasty things .....

You and many others clearly wish the sex industry would just disappear.

But you don't realize how staggering the numbers are. What are you going to replace it with? Frog farming?

Is it wrong to wish the ladies a better future than shagging drunk men ? The prostitution we see in Thailand is a political problem and lack of willingness to solve it.

All Im saying Pattay will survive without the red light districts, and you want statistics ? :D I have given you my arguments why it will survive fine without, and seriously wondering why you so triggered?

No it won't.

It needs to be replaced with something and that is a monumental and maybe impossible task.

Like what ? It already have everything a city needs, beaches, hotels, restaurants, plenty of nightlife that is not connected to prostitution, but the freelance scene will never disappear, so again, prostitution will not go away, it will only change form and not in the face as it is many places in Pattaya as now. Cheap sex tourists will need to move on. Cambodia?

Actually, very little of what is new, big, and nice, certainy nothing mentioned in my earlier post. Centre Point, for example, is a large company that owns 14 hotels, most not in Pattaya, and made its money elsewhere before expanding to Pattaya. All three of its Pattaya projects, and its new one under construction, are geared to families, not the sex trade, especially Centre Point Space. Centre Point is building it's massive 3rd resort based on the revenue earned from regular visitors, not the sex trade.

Aquatique is being built by Asset World, the real estate arm of the huge Thai Beverage, which has projects all over Thailand, including Asiatique in Bangkok. Also not built by sex trade revenue.

Many of the very large condo projects in Pattaya were built by Bangkok developers, who made their money in Bangkok and then expanded to building in Pattaya. Their initial projects were marketed to--and bought--by Bangkokians wanting weekend getaway condos, not sex trade tourists. I met some of these Bangkokians when we lived at Lumpini Park Beach, one of the first by a Bangkok developer. Lumpini, Supalai, Raimon Land, Sansiri, SC Asset, none built by the sex trade.

Ditto for Terminal 21--there was already a T21 in Bangkok before its expansion to Pattaya. True also for Central Festival, part of the huge Central Group and also not built on the sex trade. And Centara. And Amari, Holiday Inn, Mitt, Hard Rock Hotel, Hilton, Marriott, etc., etc. And, for all the restaurants, from Auntie Anne's to Zen.

How about the 20 or so international schools and all the new housing projects being built on the Darkside? Sex trade money? No. I've lived in 5 different projects on the Darkside--they're filled mostly with a United Nations of both retirees and workers, some with foreign husbands and Thai wives, with some Thai families, as well.

I'll give you the bars and clubs being built by and for the sex trade, but about everything else got built by and for regular tourists, local and international, and the large number of residents now living in Pattaya, part-time and year-round.

The sex trade does make a contribution to Pattaya's current economy, nobody disputes that. It's both a plus and a minus. I think Pattaya would be fine without it--it's already moving away from it. I don't see it eliminated any time soon, but if there was a total redevelopment and reimagining of Walking Street and the entire marina/beach area of that part of town, with the bars moved elsewhere, I think Pattaya would thrive even more.

12 minutes ago, save the frogs said:

Of course it would survive, and thrive. It would just evolve into more of a regular beach town, with a regular beach town's night life. To think that greater Pattaya would just shrivel up and die without sex tourists is ludicrous. Counting the suburbs, it's a big city now, with a large local population of both Thais and foreigners, with many of them doing fine financially. Not only do we have one Mercedes dealer, we now have two. Plus a dozen or more other auto dealers, including a number of pricey ones. Sex tourists keeping all of them in business? No. Same for Index, three Home Pros, two Boonthavorns, Do Home, Mega Home, Thai Watsadu, and all the other big box retailers. Greater Pattaya has the population to support them.

I was living in Thailand for years before I ever even visited Pattaya. After a couple of hours I was ready to leave. I much preferred the far north. I got spoiled luckily early on. Kinda curious if all those places still in the north after over 20 years. Think I will do a nostalgic trek, just for grins.

Really? Where? That sounds like prices from 20 years ago.

Barcelona? I was there recently. Saw nothing like it. Maybe you mean Berlin or Hamburg. Germany has the most prostitution in Europe, where it's legal.

It is illegal to buy sex, but not to sell it in France, Sweden, Norway, Iceland.

Fully legal in Germany.

Generally tolerated in Spain and Italy.

Netherlands legal and regulated with workers treated as self-employed entrepreneurs.

Decriminalized in Belgium.

Switzerland, Greece, Austria have "regulated systems."
