Tell me again there is no inflation in Thailand

Featured Replies

Before Covid this meal would cost 35 baht in a street side restaurant.

This is the price today as take away in a supermarket, a price increase of almost 200%,for a meal consisting of local grown ingredients only.

Yes, you have found a supermarket that is too expensive. All that plastic packaging doesn't come cheap.

This is one of the 2 major supermarkets in Thailand. The name is on the label, so definitely not comparing apples with oranges, and for sure not the most expensive one, as it caters to normal Thai people.

You guys want to claim you still can get it for 35 baht at a street side restaurant? Obviously you never eat Thai food then, because the price at those restaurants today is about the same, but they don't have price labels to take a picture.

I told you already in the post above yours if you had bothered to read. Where I live, and that is 15km East of Pattaya, in a small town the price is 80 baht. I'm sure that in Pattaya, where I lived before Covid and the price was 35 baht, you will not have it for 80 baht today

You should compare street vendors with street vendors. Still plenty of places you can get that dish on the street for less than 50 baht.

A street vendor isn't a supermarket, Supermarkets have way more overhead. Apples and oranges.

It's widely accepted that inflation is Thailand is much than reported.

Many food items jumped by +20% in the last 2 years. For example, Brooks tins of Mandarin segments, 45 THB jumped to 56 THB in Tops overnight (I buy them for my youngest daughter as a treat).

Not to be a busy body but you can buy Mandarin oranges that are quite sweet right now at most Thai markets, they have no added sugar. I believe if you check the tins you are buying you will be looking at 10-20 grams of sugar per half cup serving. We keep them in the house and juice them almost daily as well.

Still 40bht in 7-11 and 35bht on the street.

Not our fault you mistakenly think supermarkets are cheap in Asia.

Lady drinks, which is mostly soda or shots of Soju have really increased in price last year and this year.

I get Pad Krapow weekly at various road side restaurants, outside under a shelter. for 35 to 50 Baht. A larger portion also. Supermarkets of course charge more, labor added with packaging.

That meal is 45 baht in my local. It used to be 35 a year or so ago.

Lots of places the same. Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places.
