U.S. to send a "great hospital boat to Greenland"

Featured Replies

Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said on Sunday "thanks, but no thanks" to U.S. President Donald Trump's idea of sending a hospital ship to Greenland, a territory that Trump has repeatedly said he wishes to take over.

U.S. president Donald Trump announced that the United States will send a hospital ship to Greenland, "to take care of the many people who are sick and not being taken care of there".

It is not clear who those "many people" are, since permanent residents of Greenland are entitled to free, taxpayer-funded healthcare at the point of use. The system covers general practitioner visits, hospital stays, specialized treatment, and prescription medicine. Some services, such as dental care and, at times, eyeglasses or prosthetics, may require partial payment.

American citizens in Greenland, whether visitors or short-term workers, generally require private insurance or must pay for services out of pocket. But their numbers are so low that they don't justify deploying one of the two hospital ships operated by the United States Navy (the USNS Mercy and the USNS Comfort).

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen defended Denmark's health care system on Sunday, writing on Facebook that she was "happy to live in a country where there is free and equal access to health for all. Where it's not insurances and wealth that determine whether you get proper treatment."

"You have the same approach in Greenland," she said, before adding: "Happy Sunday to you all" in front of a blushing, smiling emoji.

It is not a hospital ship, it is a Trojan Horse!!

  • How ungrateful can you get? This is not just any old hospital ship, this is a "great" hospital ship🤦

  • You think they want American healthcare there?

These ships aren't 100% manned and ready to go. Even if they weren't undergoing repairs it would take a month at least to get manned up and ready.

It's my understanding Greenland has said "Thanks but no thanks."

First he tried the stick, now he's trying the carrot, and neither are working. I wish SOMEONE from his cabinet would grow a pair, set him down, look him square in the eye, and say, "First Dude, let it go."

He never met her, it is fake news, he has been completely exonerated!

Maybe it's like one of those Trinidad fishing boats that wandered too close to Venezeula and double tapped by the psychopath Hegseth?

Can Denmark really take that chance? Maybe an Exocet missile or two could stop the potential threat.

Wait! Trump would use that as another Gulf of Tonkin incident and then invade Greenland.

Looks like this is all a MISUNDERSTADING. Trump is actually talking about US military, Sailors & inadequate & extortionate US healthcare rather than Greenland citizens.

I'm sure it's the best hospital ship ever.

And I bet those Louisiana sailors are well versed in arctic sailing. Would be funny if it sank.

Donald doesn’t listen to anyone or take advice he just flaps his yap. This is just another example of engaging the mouth before the brain…..not a good trait in a chief executive ehh?a simple google search would have told the old dotard they have excellent health care.as far as advisers he doesn’t listen and is prone to destroying the lives of people who displease him so I doubt anyone wants to sit him down and talk sense to him.he needs to be replaced asap in my view.

Going to the hospital as opposed to a pharmacy for ibuprofen?

What's your point? Are you au courant with the situation for obtaining medication in Greenland? Maybe you shouldn't make assumptions about what conditions obtain there? And as the commenter noted, for residents all treatment is free of charge.

My point is why take the Doctor and other staff's time to get such a simple medication, free or not.

Both the US and Danish systems work on the same principle. 1. Collect money through premiums or taxes. 2. Pool the money and work on the principle that not all payers use the service at the same time.

(One more step in the USA: 3. Deny service whenever possible and add additional fees.)

Otherwise the main principle holds. Maybe the USA could learn from Denmark.

Seems there may be some US on board sailors

Who will probably jump ship?

A figment of an orange imagination ! The two US hospital ships are dry docked at the moment.

Mean while a medical rescue of a US Navy sailor from a submarine gets glossed over !

If the Hospital is free for everything perhaps there are no retail pharmacies to go to?

Again. You don't seem to get it. Maybe that's the only way to get medication in that part of the world. Or maybe it happened outside of standard business hours where no pharmacy was open. This part of the world has a very limited infrastructure. The population of Nuuk, the capital, is 20,000.

Or MAYBE there are 24 hour pharmacies as far as you know.

Exactly. You don't know yet you threw shade on this person for going to a hospital.

You are right, I am sorry.

Much better to have such meds available in your home even if it isn't icy outside.

Para or Tylenol, ibuprofen and Tramadol all in my drugs box.

"The US Navy operates two hospital ships, the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy. Neither appears ready to deploy any time soon, and both were at a maintenance facility, Alabama Shipyard in Mobile, according to ship-tracking data".

Then the “back-up” clown gets in on the act………Denmark’s Navy officials and officials with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s team referred questions to the White House, which did not immediately respond!!

Over 25 million Americans have no health insurance.

This ship might better be deployed at home.

Trump made himself ridiculous again! 😄

He lives in a narrative world which is more and more detached from reality.

Pharmacies (Apotek) in Greenland generally operate during regular business hours.

Non-Prescription Medicine: Since 2010, the government has made it possible to purchase certain non-prescription medicines in regular stores.

Apparently, from what I've looked up, that means either 8AM to 4PM or 9AM to 5PM. So many hours when stores are closed.

Daddy Warbucks wants Greenland for "psychological" reasons.

Not America first.

Trump's demented brain first (and only).
