400,000 balance during marriage based extension consideration period

Featured Replies

I know that every immigration office follows their own rules, but is there any official rule / law that states the 400,000 Baht balance must be maintained during the 30 day consideration period? I use the Kalasin office and have never been asked to prove the balance after the extension has been granted.

The extension has not been issued during the under consideration period. All requirements should be maintained until the extension is actually issued. Some immigration offices even have a stamp that they put in your passport that states the balance should be maintained through the under consideration period.

The rule is the rule of your immigration office. Doesn't matter what is or isn't written elsewhere.

It's definitely not written into the requirements for an extension of stay based on marriage to a thai national.

BUT

with that being said, there are more than a few offices that require you to leave it in during the under consideration period until you go back to get the extension inked in.

Bangkok immigration at Chaengwattana used to make you update the bank book and bring it when you 'closed the loop' on an under consideration stamp based on marriage. But since they went to just 21 day under consideration they discontinued the practice.

There are reports of the officers doing the home visit asking to see the bank balance (although those are rare)

As @BrandonJT said it's basically what ever your office tells you it is because they are the gate keeper on you getting the extension

Thanks for your replies guys, you have confirmed what I suspected i.e no official written requirement but dependent on each individual immigration office or officer. I was just curious if there have ever been any reports of the final stamp not being issued because the 400,000 Baht balance was not maintained during the under consideration period.

I have never read of a, report where upon attending immigration for final stamp that failure to maintain the funds during under consideration lead to stamp not being given.

Several where there were warnings given. "Don't do that again"

Bottom line: Maintain funds till stamp in pp.

No, but I know someone who had his application returned from the regional office, requesting him to resubmit with new copies, and updated financial evidence, because his copies were so poor they considered them unintelligible. Had he withdrawn the 400K, he wouldn't have been able to reapply with updated documents.

As stated, it's not a written rule, but better to be safe than sorry, and wait until it's actually approved.

They should encourage more births by making mixed couples with more than 2 children be exempted from having the 400,000 baht needed for the marriage visa. 👍👍👍

I also heard it was a safety precaution in case something goes wrong and you have to reapply.
