Bangkokians: Less Happy in Family Atmosphere

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok residents have felt their happiness in family atmosphere shrinking during the past year, according to a survey by the Assumption University that found their happiness scores climbed down from 7.99 points last September (2006) to just 5.63 this month.

The full scores are 10.

Dr Noppadon Kannika, who heads the university's Social Innovation in Management and Business Analysis Research Centre, has interpreted the findings as a signal that most people felt the incumbent administration failed to strengthen the family as the country's social institution.

"The government has failed to make people feel that the government recognises the family as an important institution in the society," Noppadon said.He pointed out that a coup took place last September, after which the interim government or the incumbent administration was installed.

Conducted on October 5 and October 6, the survey covered 1,001 respondents aged in 18 years old up in Bangkok.
