Nice Place To Eat Near Silom

Featured Replies

i would like to take some friends of mine out for a nice dinner this week. they are in their early 20's, staying near silom. can someone recommend a place with good food (of any sort though i suppose the thai guy will want thai food available) in that area? price isn't too big a deal, but nothing too fancy. thanks!

anyone?

How "nice"?

Three cheap places:

Papaya on the soi behind Central shopping center. It's directly opposite the back door. Small, quaint place, good Thai food, decent price, live music for a few hours most nights.

Wai Thai, low fat, organic restaurant, just to the right of Central shopping center. More of a diner style place, also cheap.

Bottom floor, Central shopping center, Banana Leaf, typical Chinese Thai type place, fluorescent lighting, crowded, noisy, cheap, but the food is good.

I think the Mango Tree might be ideal if they are new to Bangkok and not afraid to eat near a funky gay area. The restaurant is in a quaint house in a soi between Silom and Suriwongse, and is quite famous. Near the Tawana hotel. Just get in a taxi and call the restaurant from you mobile phone and give to the driver. Price should be ok, but I haven't eaten there for years.

How about Barbican? On Soi Thaniya, I think. Good food, pleasant atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

You could try Good Evening or Sortrel on Narathiwat Road near the collage, both very nice Thai restaurants. Popular and busy most nights. The new MK grand/Le Siam on soi Saladaeng is also very nice (and looks impressive). Pola Pola on soi Convent is nice for a mix of Western and Thai food. And if you really wanna impress (and got the money) The Banyan Tree Hotel's roof top restaurant is lush!

You said "nothing too fancy" but even so I'd recommend Celadon in the Sukothai Hotel, 13 South Sathorn Road, which many consider the finest restaurant in Bangkok. Read the review here.

thanks for all the replies!

If you can stomach the environment, try Mizu's Kitchen in Patpong 1. Sarika steak, sashimi and other Japanese fare and some Thai dishes. ??????

Can't go wrong with The Carlton on Silom, under the skytrain.

Thai, Chinese and Farang food.

Open since 1950.

If u are looking for something kinda 'fancy' but not pretentious fancy

then I suggest "Eat me restaurant and gallery"

its in soi convent, in a subsoi across from st.joseph's school.

very good food, good chilled music and atmosphere.

unfortunately...no pic of the place, but i can assure you...its very nice ambience.

the other place in same Soi convent, is Indigo. (but closer to Silom side of the road; eat me is closer to sathorn side of convent)

french food, nice big courtyard.

again...cant find link with pics....but check them out here for some more info and location....

ohhh seeing Patpong mentioned reminded me of the BEST french food you can find (not just in the area...possibly in bangkok) is Le Bouchon

mmmm just thinking about the place is making crave!!

its right in the middle of the street behind patpong, kinda hidden behind some street stalls selling sexy clothes or some other bar :D

Last meal i had there was decidedly average. Part of the reason i think the place is generally so well liked, is the unique location and the cosy ambience - service is good too. However, as far as the food is concerned, i think it's over-rated.

Taling Ping on Thanon Pan (with the indian temple on the corner)

Great Thai food.

Nice setting.

More expensive than the average Thai restaraunt but still reasonable.

Cheers

The Barbican is not nice place and expensive too!! Also the waitresses tend to not give you back the change as they expect to be tipped for each drink they bring down to you!!!

Since yr friends are in their 20's I would highly recommend the Bug & Bees just few steps from the Sala Deng station (Silom Rd.) opposite the Silom Complex....

4 floors nice clean trendy large choice of foods and shakes......and you are only a stroll away from Patpong and the sois 2-4-6....

Oh have free wi-fi internet too!!!

totally agree with the above. its in fact one of the best thai restuarants i know......

and rixalex, I still like the food at le bouchon. granted what you say about the cosy atmosphere has a lot to do with it. i prefer these homely cafe type rather than the posh looking white linen places

anyway, i believe girlx and her friends have long since left town as she posted last week saying friends were in town 'that' week? :o

Thanon Pan

Where is this exactly? A Soi off Silom, or elsewhere?

If you exit Sala Daeng Sky train and head down towards the River end of Silom Road - u can walk or u can jump on a bus if it's hot as it's a bit of a walk otherwise. You go past the Chong Nonsi Intersection with Narathiwat and continue. The Sofitel Hotel and the Narai Hotel will be on your Right Hand side, keep going and Thanon Pan is on your Left Hand side of Silom - there is an Indian Temple on the corner of Silom Road and Thanon Pan. (The bus stops right outside the Temple which has loads of incense burning so easy to spot). (BTW, this end of Silom is great - Mahesak Road the jewellery area etc, some great Indian curry restaurants).

(Or you can walk down from Chong Nonsi Sky train too if the weather is cool!)

Thanon Pan Location Map (Look above St Louis Hospital).

Thanon Pan connects Silom to Sathorn - at the Sathorn end is the Burmese Embassy, if you take a right at the Sathorn end, you can also walk to Surasak Skytrain too.

Thanon Pan has some great Burmese and Indian Food shops/restaurants :D
