Moss -- thankyou thankyou thankyou! looks like will be needing lots of luck...been applying for work for the last 2 weeks or so...so far no response. grrrr

suegha -- thats basically all the news I have for now.

other than that I have been enjoying Sydney.......going back to places I used to go to....mostly food :o although I did discover a new place...in Manly...thats one of the beach spots in Sydney.... a moroccan place called Out of Africa. have to say its one of the best meal ive had in a long long time.

Legag -- you should get Mrtoad's number. maybe they arrived after you got there? and knowing you being the restless you...my guess is you didnt wait long enough :D remember...they are boys...they dont always do things properly :D

Mig~~~ miss you here kicking them boyz butts!

Enjoy new food and new spots! You got me jealous! I'm off to HK for about a week, yeah yeah yeah work that is. Hope you get a job soon darling.

Hey LBD, you are an infrequent visitor these days, how the he11 are you?

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi MiG,

Any news? Found a lover, a job, a home?

How's things down under, love?

KO/

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks for asking boys :D

(speaking of interest......seems I have aroused the interest of MODS lately? had 4 mods visit me in the same day......whats that about??? hmmm)

anyway..back to life downunder......in the past 2 weeks Ive been offered 2 jobs, turned down the first. (just dont see myself in that role other than short term) and have accepted the second offer. will be starting full time work next week.

flat-wise...... after 15 years of living alone (apart from the occasional 1 year at uni, and visits from friends/family) Ive now had to resort to sharing. awwwww :D

and with 2 boys and a male cat at that!!

very nice people ofcourse.

and well the cat......Im a dog person....but in a way...I suppose Ive fallen for the cat too. first thing I do when I get home is walk out to kitchen to make sure the cat's dish is nicely washed and he gets fresh food. he shows me his fair share of loving as well :o

so anyway...thats the latest.....

thanks everyone for all your well wishes, and please continue to wish me luck in my new life here?

I kinda miss thailand and all my friends there ofcourse. i also miss the job I had there....was not able to get something in similar field here in Aus as there are limited opportunities...and the few that come up Im likely to be competing with people with 20 years of experience!!! So i had to divert course somewhat.....

Hey Miggie, nice to hear from you & get the news. Best of luck in your new life in Oz. :o

good to hear from you.

Like a cat, you seem to be landing on your feet.

Cats have very nice tongues, my girlfriend tells me.

NR -- not see you much lately. tried to call you before I left Thailand...but no luck. hope things are well.

speaking of cats... the cat loves me. :o every evening /night no matter what time I get home...he will come sit on my lap and sleeps there for a bit. Im somewhat allergic at times, so I try not to touch him :D its a weird arrangement...

work -- into my 3rd week now. much less stressful than my job in thailand...but I prefer the one I had there. Ive been talking to another unit here about doing some volunteer work though...so I suppose soon I could be back to overworking myself again :D

soundman -- how did you assume I have no man? (but correctly :D ) my social life is still very limited....just a few friends I go out to lunch or dinner with every now and then. havent met many new people. people at work are nice...but they dont seem to hang out or do the social thing. whereelse would one new in a country meet people? Im not a sports person....dont go to church and am not a student. bars...not really my scene. (Unless they have footie on :D). footie...thats my other complaint...I have cable at home..but the hours of the games are impossible.....very very late nights or early early mornings.

despite that...I am getting the aussie experience. will be going out to the country this weekend, and at easter my first camping trip in over 15 years :D

on the whole...Im doing ok. enjoying Sydney...especially the varied food on offer. my week is always multicultural... dinner in a week goes like this:

greek monday

indian tuesday

thai wednesday

korean thursday

african friday

vietnamese saturday

italian sunday

or variations of the above..replace korean with japanese, replace greek with lebanese, replace vietnamese with chinese, replace italian with portuguese or brasilian.

so..whos coming to visit me? Ive already had my first visitor from Thailand this week :D

Possibly later this year, I'll let you know gal. :D

Yeah, problem watching the "football :o " live in OZ. Sorry, but the earth being round can't be helped. :D

Glad to hear you are having a good time. Find a new social group to hang with - that lot sound a tad conservative. :D

Hi Mig girl - good to read you.

work -- into my 3rd week now. much less stressful than my job in thailand...but I prefer the one I had there. Ive been talking to another unit here about doing some volunteer work though...so I suppose soon I could be back to overworking myself again :D

Hope the job goes well mate - don't work too hard it is unAustralian and not encouraged

(Unless they have footie on :D). footie...thats my other complaint...I have cable at home..but the hours of the games are impossible.....very very late nights or early early mornings.

Footie - mate we have both types Rugby (aka mobile mud wrestling) and AFL (aka the greatest game on earth). Get yourself down to the SCG or similar and watch how real men play football - not like that nancy boy round ball "oh ref sir, I hurt my ankle when that bad man touched me on the shoulder" rubbish

despite that...I am getting the aussie experience. will be going out to the country this weekend, and at easter my first camping trip in over 15 years :o

watch out for drop bears and such like out there - the bush is a dangerous place for the unsuspecting tourist. :D

Yes that is Australia - where even the Greeks eat sushi and the Germans know the finer points of Thai food.

Here in CM I eat:

Monday - Thai food

Tuesday - Thai food

Wednesday - Thai food

Thursday - Thia food

Friday - Thai food

Saturday - something special - Thai food

Sunday - something easy - Thai food

so..whos coming to visit me? Ive already had my first visitor from Thailand this week :D

Sorry girl I like you but the prospect of dragging me back to Oz let alone to Sydney makes me weak at the knees and need a lie down to recover.

Enjoy it while you are there - make friends but avoid drinking anything made by Toohey's or from Queensland.

I wonder what it was they were saying? :o Can anyone translate?

One little bit of that post stood out from the rest CB

So did you have to do a google search of drop bears?

The bundy ads are good - the bundy bear is very popular in Oz. No one has ever figured out why a polar with an Australian accent ever got to be the symbol for a rum but hey he's from Queensland (refer to my warning above)

Australian tourism myths are legend - some are very funny.

Tourism myths: Road expansion grids. Cattle stations in Australia are huge - forget those pocket properties in Texas we are talking big here. Many times major roads run through the properties and to prevent cattle getting out they have a special grid (commonly made of railway line) laid across the road over a relatively shallow pit. in a continuation of the fence line. Cattle cannot cross it because of the gaps between the rails but cars simply drive over it. Tour guides commonly tell people that the sun is so hot in Oz that the road expands and to prevent it buckling they put in these grids to absorb the expanding road.

One time in the Army we had a full division of US Marines on exercise in Qld. It was very hot, dry and we were on restricted water rationsof 2 litres per man per day. The men were exempted from shaving to conserve water but sergeants and officers were required to shave. In preparation for a drive out we had all the vehicles in a single group for everyone. The marines were sitting around and bitching about the heat, dust etc just like all soldiers everywhere. My troop sergeant jumped out of his vehicle and walked into the middle of the marines lounging around under trees. He walked up to several and tapped on the side of the trunk until he found one with thick but soft bark and pushed the electric plug of a shaver into the bark. Then started shaving. The marines were staring at him. Totally ignoring them he continued shaving. Finally one of the Marines asked and my sergeant explained that it was an electric eucalyptus tree that absorbs and stores electricity from lightning storms. He said you have to be careful because our power is 240 volt and the US standard is 110 so would blow up their equipment. He went on to explain that the Oz Army uses these trees to run our power requirements and it is possible to even run the motor for an air conditioner but the exercise requirements would not allow it because of the number of guys on exercise would drain the power grid. The Marines were stunned and spent hours checking trees never realising that my sergeant had used an electric power shaver that had the option to switch between mains and battery. He had of course being using the internal battery power for his shave.
