A Moment That Always Gets You

Featured Replies

What are experiences that never leave you, and that you are reminded of when some event occurs?

I'll give you one of mine, a happy one. Back when I was a kid I developed a taste for Twizzlers and they became my favorite movie snack. I loved to open them up and smell that fresh bag of Twizzlers smell. Yes, many think me mad. Well, even today I smell a bag of Twizzlers just opened and I can't help but get that feeling of enjoying a movie. That joy of finally seeing a movie you have been waiting for or a movie that you love to watch over and over again.

Okay, someone elses turn.

I used to sleep with my bolster (long pillow) by wrapping my leg around it. I still sleep that way these days, though sometimes I use pillow substitutes.

You wouldn't be the first (Girl nor guy) to do this.

:o

Bops, we all thought you were wierd before this thread, but we love ya all the same.

Mine would have to be, when I was about thirteen, I got my first real taste of Pu55y.

Still gets me knickers in a twist every time, some 16 years later.

:D Yes, I remember my first muff diving experience........aaahhhhh......like fresh fruit...only not. :D

Here is one you would like Kayo......Waits, Nighthawks at the Diner....can't listen to it without thinking about this wonderful girl who I loved openly for so long but would only be my friend. She was a Waits song.

Indeed, as wet as an over-ripe mango :D

A moment that always gets to me?

There is one (at least) when a baby turns into a toddler and manages to get on to two legs. The look of supreme joy on their faces, arms aloft as if they had just finished a marathon. Real, innocent joy.

There is a song that I can remember my Mum singing to me when I was very young, I rarely hear it today but when I do it still raises a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling :o

If you are wondering its "Save your kisses for me" by Brotherhood of Man, don't ask me how I can remember it as I was only 2 when it came out!

For me (years ago) it used to be that characteristic aroma and humidity of the city when I got out of Don Muang Airport. It immediately brought pleasant thoughts of previous trips - lost hours (days!), the simple joys of lying by the hotel pool with a coldie and the anticipation of going down to Phuket in the following few days.

bag of warm roast horse-chestnuts on a cold chilly evening - reminds me of Christmas

Ahhhh, ya big bunch of softies.

In keeping with recent wine comments, it's the pop of the cork and the first pouring, that 'glup glup glup sound. Makes me happy every time. Brings back memories of my first wine drinking experiences from 30 years ago.

Wine memories! My grandfather was a wine collector. He took me as a kid to wine tasting and had me smell the wine, tell him what I smelled and than he would try it and tell me if I was right. Do this day wine makes me think of him. I have been trying to teach my children to pay that much attention to the things they enjoy, ya, experience all of it to really love it.

My dad was a big man, not fat but just big and tall (RIP) and i remember he used to come and tuck me up every night when i was little, and he had that daddy smell. Years later, when he died, i brought a sweater of his home with me and i still take it out and it still has that Daddy smell about it. My sister has one too. Good memories.

And, before anyone says anything, there was no fiddling going on....

I am sorry you felt you had to add that. :o

We are talking 40 years ago, nowadays you can't even innocently cuddle your kid and the brigade come out in their thousands. Sad, i know. But on the good side i have my memories and i am sure others here have too. :o

I'm back in the Good Ol' US of A for a couple of weeks. Here's one that gets me. There are a large number of really big people, nay, humungous people that have their own battery powered conveyance to take them around the stores and malls. OK, I'm thinking, perhaps these poor souls are not ambulatory and my compassionate juices start stirring. Then I see them out in the parking lot as they dismounttheir chariot, pick it up (must weigh 100 lbs or more), stick it in the trunk of their car and walk around to drive away. Man, that gets me.

Yes, I know those people well. I can't have compassion for them, they did that to themselves and are unwilling to change.

But Bops... It's a disease... It's not their fault... Divert Income tax money to the health services to aid them! Tax us hard working people a bit more....

HA.don't I know those poor souls. :o .Kayo you sound like a yank! We don't personal responiblity here seriously anymore. It's always someone else's fault. Never should we Americans ask what we have done to ourselves only what the rest of the world has done to us! :D

Music has always had a profound effect on me. When I hear Dusty Springfield's "The Look of Love", I instantly think back to the nights when my first love and I would be in the backseat of my car exploring each other's bodies and trying to find out about life's mysteries.

Yeah, that's a good one. Hey, speaking of which; when they topple over onto their head in that three point stance that has their big padded bum sticking up, am I the only one that has the urge to give them a kick? With love of course. And those chubby thighs, man that's some good chewing. Or have I perhaps said too much?

Same for me. :o

The sound of a REAL motorbike.

Back in the early '60's my dad had a Velocette motorbike and sidecar combo and we went all over on that machine. Dad and mum on the bike and me and sis in the sidecar. Every now and then, to give mum a break, I rode pillion. What utter delight that was, probably only doing 40mph but for me it was the ton at least! :o

I am sorry you felt you had to add that. :o

Agreed

The way that a chance song or smell or taste can take us out of time and put us in several places in our history at once is one of Proust's grand themes (one of the few ways we can experience the defeat of time).

I have had a somewhat unusual life in which I have moved around a lot and rarely gone back to places I used to be. I've also left boxes of stuff from various time periods with different people. When I do go back, or when I come across one of these boxes again, the experience can be quite potent... suddenly I am literally in two places and times at once. A movie I recently saw had a classical soundtrack; drove me to tears- it was a piece I had been listening to quite often around the time my father died and had somehow avoided since.

"S"

it's been so long that I can't remember having a sensation recently that reminded me of the past life in California; the place, people I knew there, etc...the last 10-15 years havin' been spent mostly in SE Asia and the Middle East with new experiences, relatively speaking...

sheesh...now, that's sad... :o

Another of my favorites. But I didn't have any "backwoods in my 60 Chevy." I had a Pontiac Bonneville and our "backwoods" was the mesa on the east side of town. Great view of the city lights. :o Hehehehehe.
