Bozo The Clown dies

Los Angeles - Larry Harmon, the man who turned Bozo the Clown into one the most enduring characters in American media died Thursday aged 83 from heart failure, according to a press release from his publicist.

Larry Harmon bought the rights to the clown icon in 1956 from its originator and trained hundreds of others to appear as Bozo in regional shows and television stations throughout the United States.

Although not the original Bozo, Harmon portrayed the popular clown in countless appearances and, as an entrepreneur, he licensed the character to others, particularly dozens of television stations around the country. His career lasted over 50 years but his most successful years were in the 1980s and 1990s when shows featuring the character were a staple of kids entertainment in the US.

Harmon once estimated that the icon had been associated with more than 5,000 commercial products and generated over 10,000 hours of TV shows.

*EDIT*

with apologies to the family of the deceased, the photo above is not Mr. Harmon, but is, of course, that of disgraced former Prime Minister's Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair.

I inadvertantly had pulled his photo out the same Clowns With Wild Facial Distortions folder that also contained the photo of the other Bozo the Clown.

The proper photo is:

I have coulrophobia, that second picture is seriously scary.

Yeah, I always found clowns a bit scary too!

being a clown is thankless as we observe from the above observations...

many years ago in a different life I found meself on a hillside as a high lead riggin' man in the fog an' you could only hear but not see the danger...them logs were big and deadly and one equipment operator on the landing rained death by bein' stupid...huddled behind a stump with my workmate he uttered one word...'Bozo...' :o

yes...tutsi raped the woods...I remember hookin' a turn an' seein' three little birds inna nest with their beaks wide open wantin' food...they were sent to their deaths...later the hooktender said 'ye shoulda said sumpim tuts...we don't gotta kill wildlife, ye know...' spat tobacco juice...

Had me scared for a second. I thought maybe kayo had woke up in the wrong bed once too often and paid the ultimate price ! :o

I think Bozo's best appearance was in the Stephen King movie "It" (though it was kind of disappointing to find that the "It" was just a homicidal, deranged, maniac clown).

I also am frightened of clowns. Strange.. when they are supposed to entertain kids. I think it is the make up - you can't see the real face.

The book, I read and enjoyed (I think that I have possibly read everything that Mr King has written, even the pseudonym ones).... that was fine, had to put it down a couple of times, but fine..... the movie, which was a mini-series in the UK. I watched from behind the sofa, (a la Dr Who at age 10)

The clown in 'It' is not just a homicidal clown, it is evil personified, and his adversary is the turtle, with the help of the young kids once, and then again finally when they have lost their innocence but retained the capacity for good.

Sorry, and many RIPs to all the people that have played Bozo.

I just can't stand clowns. (apart from Kayo, as he spells it with a K, and looks like a rabbit)

"we all float down here"

yet another clown died today...

Former Republican Senator Jesse Helms dies at 86

YESSSSSS...an unrepentant racist bastard and an embarrasment to so called liberal democracy...

:o:D:D

I think it is strange that we are grown up, equally intelligent persons and we are frightened of clowns. well that took a great big lump off my shoulders.

I just did an image search on the clown from 'It' ..... had to close it.

That one in the Seinfeld episode probably didn't help. Fear of clowns... funny, isn't it?

there was a film when I was a kid of about 12...there is a clown and a kid came into a room after he has just murdered someone and attempted to hide the body behind the bed...the victim's feet were protruding...

kid: 'what's that?'

clown (still with makeup on): 'those are my extra feet...just like I got extra hair I got extra feet as well...'

jesus... :o
