5 Somali Pirates Drown With Share of $3M Ransom

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Five of the Somali pirates who released a hijacked oil-laden Saudi supertanker drowned with their share of a reported $3 million ransom after their small boat capsized, a pirate and port town resident said Saturday.

Pirate Daud Nure says the boat with eight people on board overturned in a storm after dozens of pirates left the Sirius Star following a two-month standoff in the Gulf of Aden that ended Friday.

Funny thing. I read an article in which one man blamed the deaths on the pirates having to flee so quickly because of all the warships in the area. The way it was worded, he was upset (even angry) that the presence of the warships meant that the pirates had to try and escape in high seas in their inflatable boat.

(Of course, if it wasn't for the presence of those nay ships, the pirates could have leisurely sailed back to home when the weather was much nicer, and wouldn't have lost their share of the ransom. Hmmmm, wonder if that is what upset the guy most ?)

What's funny about that, is I've gone back to 5 different news sites so I could copy that part of the article, and can't find it any more. It seems less than an hour after I read it, the articles have been amended and that part has been edited out for some reason. Strange.

Growing up on the west coast of Florida, square groupers washing up on the beach was an occurance that happen from time to time. Square Groupers were another name for a illegally imported plant used for smoking purposes that for some reason had accidentally or purposely was tossed overboard. People walked the beaches hoping to find these odd fish.

I see that one of the three pirates that drowned has washed up on the beach with only $153,00 in his pockets. Now either some was dislogged or he couldn't count or the pirate captain took more than his normal two shares.
