Hope ive posted this in the right area.

I was wandering if you require a certain type of visa before being allowed entry to Thailand from the UK, with a one way ticket (no return or onward flight ticket). Not sure how long i wanted to stay in Thailand ,plan to move out there soon.

Ill more than likely end up getting a return ticket (1 year), which i may not use, so was just keeping my options open. Any advice would be welcome.

Im assuming i can apply for some type of Non-Immigration Visa, as i own property in Thailand (and dont immediatley plan to work/start a busines)? :o

Thanks.

Welcome :o

You don't need a visa per sae as you will get stamped in with a visa exemption, which is valid for 30 days. After 30 days you will need to do a visa run to a neighbouring country to get another 30 days.

The problem with this is that you can only stay for 90 days in any 180 day period. You also might encounter problems with your airline, they are a bit scared now as they are liable for flying you home if you are refused entry (which you will never encounter in Thailand).

Best bet for you as a fellow Brit is to apply for a multi entry non immigrant O visa. You can do this by post with the Hull Consulate (recommended), and state your reason for travelling as visiting friends. Send it on Monday, and recieve on Wednesday - they really are that good. My last one cost me £100 plus about £12 for recorded delivery each way, google Thai consulates in UK and download the forms from there.

You need to leave the country every 90 days with this visa, but it is valid for a year which you can extend to 15 months by doing a final border run a day or 2 before it expires.

Good luck

Don't even think about trying to get on a flight to Thailand without a visa and not having a return or onward flight. Also border runs using visa exempt entries are only going to be 15 days now not 30 days.

Getting a multiple entry non-o to visit friends from Hull is is the best option. That way you only need to do border runs every 90 days. Also you can enter and leave the country as many time as you wish for a year.

Reports are that they do mail in applications quickly.

Ok, just to clear things up, once i have got my non-imm O visa, i'll be ok to get a one way flight to Thailand?

Cheers.

No return or onward ticket is required for any visa.

With a non-o you will be good to go.

I guess to get round this, i could get a one way ticket, then book a cheap AirAsia flight out of TL, (obviously before i arrive)?

Yes. That would get you into Thailand. Then what will you do? With the new rule giving only 15 days doing border runs I would get a Multi Entry Non O Visa. Then you will have up to 15 months with no worries.

Yes a one way ticket out of Thailand will work. But remember that border runs will only get you 15 days now not 30 unless you fly out and back.

I still suggest getting the non-o.

May I suggest that you confirm with the airline, that you will use, if they are happy to carry you with a one way ticket. When we came here to retire we cleared it with the airline concerned. It was noted on our e-ticket printout, not actually on our tickets of course. We used Eithad. This was some twenty months ago but the travel agent 'westeast' was a little concerned and advised that we clear it with the airline, I had a multi O visa and my wife was Thai.

We just arrived with 1 year multiple entry visas. We are a family of 5 and all of us had one-way tickets - no problem at all. I'd recommend getting 1 year visa - we had lots of reports that getting from Hull was the best, so I'd agree with that - and they were quick and no hassles.

With the ease of getting Multiple Non Imm B or O visa's from consulates in your homecountries I do not understand why people bother to do the 30 day thing and try to come up with all kinds of strange ways.

If you are still in your own country go to an embassy or consulate get a Multiple Non Imm O or B and come to Thailand. You will have no hassles for a year and 3 months! Eazy Peazy.

Would appreciate some advise here. I have had 6 consecutive years of Marriage/Retirement visas. Have been on two year work asignmnet in Shanghai and travel back every 2-3 months to visit wife and son. My Retirement visa expired a few days ago unable to renew due to airport closing. I have one way return flight from Shanghai to Bangkok on Dec 18th to visit for the holidays and then return to Shanghai for 2-3 months. At this point I really do not need the retirement visa until I am back in LOS full time again next year. Am I ok to fly from Shanghai to BKK without a visa or onward ticket. If not does anyone have any experience with Thai consul in Shanghai? Cheers in advance.

By "one way return ticket" I assume you mean you'll be using the return leg of your Bangkok-Shanghai return.

Without a visa you may well be refused the flight at check in. So your choices are either book an onward flight with AirAsia, or similar, for a date with 30 days of arrival or get a visa. Sorry no experience with Embassy in Shanghai.

You are going to need a return/onward ticket or a visa.

I don't think you will get many replies concerning the consulate. Probably best to contact them.

Plumski,

I have obtained a 1 year multiple entry visa (non imm o), from Hull, only took 2 days in the post, great service that.

So just to confim, I will be allowed into Thailand, with a one way ticket from the UK? If anyone has experience of doing this, it would be re-assuring to know. Otherwise i guess I confirm with the intended airline about a single ticket, and if not, Ill pay the extra 100quid for a return ticket that I doubt I'll use.

Maybe il find something on Thai Immigration website, hmmmmmmmmm maybe not.

If you have a visa of any type you do not need a return or onward ticket.

Probably hundreds (or thousands) of people do it every day. I have done it myself several times.

If need more assurance see this this link to Delta select your country and Thailand and it will take you to a IATA website with the same infor the airline has access to. http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations...ation/index.jsp

One Way Flight Ticket to Thailand

The info from Hull is a little misleading. The airlines do not have any rules. It is Thailands rules that count and those are that you don't need an onward or return ticket if you have a visa.

You may come upon a check in agent that does not know the rules. If that happens stand firm and make them check the rules. Most times just getting a supervisor envolved will take care of the problem.

Perfectly OK.

I have done it many times. :o
