Leeds play Wakefield tonight, but I'm off to see a Malaysia XI host Manchester City at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, in a roundball friendly.

SC

Any chance of a final score for the above game later tonight or tomorrow morning, as i'm not confidient if Wakefield can win 2 in a row!

Its a 2 am kick off, Thai time, so I'll check the score in the morning...

I saw this as a NRL tag. Also saw a mention of a post in the Chiang Mai section on TV on the 27/07 mentioning the accident to Mr Andrew Cadigan.

This young man has had a serious motorbike accident in Chiang Mai after doing a fund raiser for a mate that died.

In June this year, Andrew Cadigan finished an 18-month walk, covering 15,000km, and raised $60,000 for the Leukaemia foundation in honour of his friend Chris "Simmo" Simpson, who passed away from the disease two years ago.

He walked from Sydney across to Perth via Tasmania, the coastline of the Bass Strait and the Nullarbor, then to Darwin via Broome and the Kimberley, then to Townsville and south down the east coast.

Andrew's Dad is a NRL Jurno; with coverage of an appeal to help his family with medical expenses on NRL games and sports shows here in OZ.

A trust account has been set up for Mr Cadigan at the Commonwealth Bank: Fleur Cumming ITF Andrew Cadigan, BSB 062627, account number 1026 1336.(Perth Now)

As the young fellow is in a Thailand Hospital now, and he has a link to our great game; I just thought it appropriate to post this here if any one is interested and wants to pass on a donation. A selfless act to help another I feel deserves consideration.

Hope this is appropriate to post these details here.

Typical miserable bloody selfish Scot, eh?

First thing I thought when I read this headline was - "I wish I'd not known that before I watch the match tonight"

Wakefield 38-18 Leeds

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/18974123

An excellent win over their West Yorkshire rivals, and I'm looking forward to watching it tonight, assuming I don't get detained by the Director again...

It was a cracking game, by the way, and Wakefield well deserved their win. Ryan Hall scored a hat-trick for Leeds but generally they were outplayed.

Next weekend Hull travel to Wigan on Friday night - I'll watch that lunchtime on Saturday, and Warrington go to Langtree Park to meet St Helens on Monday night. I might take Tuesday morning off for that, rather than rely on rushing home from work to catch it in the evening.

Oh my word! And after a dubious penalty in the opening set of six, Sam Tomkins touches down for the first try of the evening in the second minute.

By the way, we're at Wigan for the Wigan - Hull Friday night game... Oh - and Lulaki drops the kick-off. And Tom Briscoe is judged to have knocked on as Josh Charnley wriggles about on top of him; Peter Gentle is having a quick few words with the officials... luckily we can't hear.

And Gareth Hock scores after Sam Tomkins draws in two defenders, passes into the centre, then out again towards the wing, with men over to spare. The commentators are casting doubts about Josh Charnley's kicking abilities, but he hits the post fair and square; no points for that, though. I just hope Smokie is safely tucked up in bed sound asleep and not being troubled by this... Hull are really struggling to make ground going forward. Hull do a great job keeping the ball alive ("...and Peter Gentle is still complaining about something on the touch line...") but the kick over to the corner is just a little too high.

And at the other end, James Child awards a penalty for markers not standing square at the play of the ball, and Hull can't hold them out for six tackles and Josh Charnley slices through the defence for the third try of the evening. I expect Smokie will be reporting this post to the moderators...

Oh no! Kirk Yeaman turns his ankle, and he's carried off the pitch, but Hull have a penalty but Tom Briscoe knocks on again as he is swamped by tacklers attempting a planned move which hands over possession rather than breaking the Wigan defence.

...

...

And Josh Charnley goes over for his second; Hull are really struggling with so many of their first line players injured.

A knock-on is picked up by Hull, and Tom Lineham dives over in the corner to make it 18 - 4, Jamie Foster lines up for his fourteenth successive conversion from way out on the right hand touch line, but no such luck. Kirk Yeaman looking particularly dischuffed on the sidelines, with ice around his ankle. Wigan are penalised for being off-side, and Hull are continuing their desperate off-loads, and Briscoe's pass goes to ground.

And now its Hull's turn to knock on in their own 20 - metres, and Sam Tomkins fields the cross-kick stretched at arms' length, under pressure, and he gathers the ball and dives over for a fifth try... Wigan 24 - 4 Hull at half time

...

And here we are back again after the oranges.

Wigan break and Harrison passes out to ... but he knocks on ... 'twinkle-toes' Sam Tomkins.

Hull knock on, Wigan try to milk a penalty but its not forthcoming, out to the Wing where centre Jack Hughes is waiting, Hughes breaks, and as he is brought down, who is waiting inside his shoulder but Josh Charnley who scores his 30th try for the season

As Wigan bring the ball back from the kick-off a Hull handbag-snatcher takes the ball fifty metres back up the pitch. Briscoe offloads in the tackle, Thornley takes the ball for Wigan but he falls over the line, and its a Hull scrum ten metres out; but a knock-on sees Wigan get a scrum on their ten metre line. And Tom Briscoe tackles Matty Smith on the Hull line, the ball comes loose as Smith tries to touch down, and James Child has to wake up Ian Smith in the video ref's box "wwm mw ehm... NO TRY!"

17,500 in the DW Stadium, by the way, the biggest crowd for a Wigan Hull game since the 1985 Challenge Cup Final.

Hull spin the ball wide for Foster to go in at the corner, and asks the referee to check with Ian Smith; bit Ian can see that there's a foot in touch, and Josh Charnley has pushed him out before the ball went down, and Wigan break the length of the field for Liam Farrell score under the posts.

Joe Westerman is lucky to stay on the pitch after a shoulder charge to Lualaki's head. Mossop is brought down with Matty Smith inside him, Michael Mcllorum takes the ball from acting-half and the Hull defence is still not set as he weaves through to add another try

42 - 4

Wigan have beaten every side in the league bar one... whom they face a week on Saturday; I will be RAGING if that's not on Astro (disappointed, anyway); but before that, Warrington will travel to Langtree Park to meet St Helens on Monday night

McGoldtrick tackles the ball carrier in goal, and Sam Tomkins kicks out from under his posts

(and apparently Sam Moa (? am I hearing that right?) has to be escorted from the dugout after taking exception to some comments from the crowd

But back on the pitch, Seymour goes over under two defenders and under the sticks after some great passing, and Jamie Foster has only ever missed one conversion in his career - the earlier kick in this match

42 - 10

Jeremiah and Briscoe get underneath Josh Charnley but after the kick out, Sam Powell dummies, runs at the last man, sidesteps and scores under the posts

48 - 10

Smokie will be putting me on 'ignore'...

CHris Green puts the shoulder into Jeff Lima BOING! and Green goes flying!

Wigan are judged off-side, though the kicker has passed them all to play them on-side; so Hull are back in the Wigan half, with two minutes to go; Courtney is bundled over the goal line to kick out, and the Hull Supporters are still singing.

And O'Meley knocks on a few metres out... Wigan scrum with 40 seconds to go. Sean Wayne is heading off to meet his players in the dressing room and Tomkins kicks the ball into touch

Wigan lead Warrington by five points at the top of the table; Warrington meet third-placed St Helens on Monday night before hosting Wigan at the Halliwell Jones next Saturday.

Unfortunately I can't get Radio Manchester for the London Salford game; not sure why - either a change of programming, or a change of rights restrictions.

I'll check out the games tomorrow...

I'll be distressed if I can't get the Warrington Wigan game next weekend (Saturday night, 10.45 pm kick off - what does that clash with?).

Out of interest, do most of the pubs in Bangkok have Astro?

Where could I prevail upon the publican to get the game shown, do you think?

SC

EDIT: I can get the Test Match on Radio 5 Live, but its not the same - except that they've just scored six points; England 153 for 3. Pieterson seems to be going for it in a big way; another boundary as I type this...

And I can tell you its not the same, watching on the Latest Scores, as you may recall from the 2008 World Cup...

Let's hope we get good coverage next year from England (and Wales and France); particularly from Workington and Salford... Oh, and its 6 - 14 in favour of Salford, for what it's worth. And to think I've got four cans of Tiger to get through... well, I've got the test match commentary on the wireless, and the Olympics on text updates - and of course the malaysia thailand game was repeated again this evening, just finished. Its a good job there's no gambling here, or I'd have put money on Malaysia to win with five minutes to go, again.

Goodness me, and London have pulled it back to 26 - 28 - could this be an upset on the books? Could we be set for a dramatic finale?

Could we get the commentary? No.

The suspense is killing me. Almost. Not literally. But its causing me some distress. Frustration. Annoyance. Nervousness about next week...

Well, anything could happen in the next few minutes, and we'd be none the wiser...

And so it has! 30 - 28! COuld London close the gap on Widnes, and avoid last place?

EDIT: 36 - 28! At this rate Salford won't need to worry about making the play-offs... and London may be able to avoid finishing bottom of the table, behind new boys Widnes.... And it ends 40 - 28 to London, their fourth win of the season. What suspense. What drama. What excitement. I would've been beside myself, had I been interested in the result. Its definitely not the same without the pictures or the sound.

So I read the match report (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/19092104) and there was one point that distressed me...

Attendance: 1,517.

That is pitiful; there's more people follow this thread! I don't know if that's counting the linesmen; they would have had one more if it was televised, and they'd had a video referee...

Anyway, who wants my custom for Warrington - Wigan next Saturday? If Warrington lose, I'll eat a pie....

I suppose with the excitement of the Olympics, and the frustrations of the lack of coverage of the London - Slaford game, we could be excused for taking our eyes off the ball for a moment, and missing the Grand Final in Falkirk...

Edinburgh Eagles overcome Aberdeen Warriors to lift their 9th title in 13 seasons, and once again become Scottish Grand Final Champions, winning the privilege to represent Scotland in the Challenge Cup 2013, starting the long road to Wembley in five months' time.

However, while we may be excused, I am disappointed that the Scotsman of Waverley Street, the (Glasgow) Herald, the Aberdeen Press and Journal, saw fit to ignore this seasons's climax. I couldn't yahoogle anything on the net about it at all...

So for the benefit of those searching, who may benefit from this post:

'Scotland' 'rugby league' 'grand final' '2013' 'Falkirk' 'Edinburgh Eagles'

My apologies for missing the three o clock kick-off games this evening; so I can't even comment on whether the loss of radio commentary coverage is permanent or not... I was in Sid's watching Andy Murray pick up his first gold medal...

Anyway, from the latest scores:

Castleford 12 - 40 Wakefield - David48 will be pleased

Huddersfield beat Catalans 36 - 18, so depending on Warrington's result against St Helens tomorrow, that could open up a bit of a gap between 2nd and 3rd.

Leeds beat Hull KR 25 - 24 in Hull; they're (Hull KR) still in 8th place, 3 points ahead of...

Bradford who beat Widnes to keep alive their hopes of a play-off place

All building up for the big match tomorrow. I think I'll go to bed early and get up early on Tuesday morning to catch the game on Astro.

Well I couldn't face getting up at 3 am for the rugby, so I rushed home as fast as my little legs would carry me to see the replay, not realising that with Ramadan, the rush hour is an hour or so earlier...

Anyway, got home in time for the end of the first half.

And Warrington score quickly after the restart; Saints are aiming high, hanging on - and of course they get penalised for it and "wide again to Riley" but his right heel is on the line and his left toe touches the ground - 'but', I hear you ask 'who is going to decide'? Well there's no need to speculate. Its Phil Bentham in the telebox, and Richard Silverwood on the park. 48 minutes and 16 - 6 to Warrington, and I'd be cackling and rubbing my hands with glee to boot, if I wasn't so busy typing this.

"11 of Tony Simth's 19-man squad are 30 or over".

And there's fifteen and a half thousand in Langtree Park "Come on you Saints!"

"Que sera, sera - whatever will be will be, We're going to Wembelee!" comes the riposte.

Wellens knocks on five yards out and Richie Myler races seventy yards before a trysaving Ohaia tackle drags him down, Ryan Atkins picks the ball up on the half-volley and passes it forward to the winger as he thunders to the tryline.

'Look at them hounding these St Helens ball carriers, four tackles gone and they're still at the forty metre line"

Oh a Lee Briers high punt, Monaghan palms it down and over for a ... for a disallowed try, the palm down judged to be forward

And Warrington skip it out the line Briers, Myler, Atkins, Riley's bootlaces and over the try line in the corner

"What a kick from Hodgeson!"

"Not many beards in Superleague, but Tyrone McCarthy's got one of the best... Fantastic, isn't it?"

What do you guys reckon? What about Jamie-Jones-Buchanan's?

And Paul Wellens goes over under the posts for his fourteenth try against Warrington - he scored his first at Wilderspoole in 1999

And St Helens attack again, desperate attack, keeping the ball alive, but it ends up in Warrington arms... its after the hooter as Warrington break for Lee Briers to touch down, but from a knock on...

and that's the way it goes St Helens 12 - 22 Warrington; second in the league beats third, and on Saturday, they face league leaders Wigan, three points ahead in the table at the Halliwell Jones.

Ha Ha - and Wigan trail Warrington alrwady by 6 points to nil!

There was a bit of uncertainty whether we would get commentary, but Steve Ganson must've had a word with the BBC - "All my fans in Thailand will be tuning into the internet even as we speak..."; obviously, there's no point speculating what the video referee said, since we don't even know who it is... maybe its James Child of Dewsbury, Or Thierry Alibert of Toulouse... no point speculating.

And there's another cheer as another high Briers bomb comes down, but he hasn't scored, instead Wigan have knocked on.

"They're under the cosh here, Ray"

"They certainly are, oh a dash and CHRIS HILL IS OVER IN THE CORNER"...

steady on wi'the caps, Cowboy, the kids are sleeping

Only eight minutes gone, and two tries scored at the Martin Dawes end of the stadium.

"But its a long time to go, and Wigan are a very resilient side..."

And Wigan are defending aggressively, but Ray Hodgeson powers on, gets the ball away to Mickey Higham, and he's brought down, Lee Briers kicks on, but Sam Tomkins gets teh ball and starts to work away from the Martin Dawes end.

And its back and forth; Wigan seem to have recovered their feet, tightened up their defence. Wigan take the ball from a scrum ten metres from their own tryline... And a penalty takes Wigan five inside the Warrington half, which is the closest Wigan have had the ball to the Warrington try line, and Westwood and Ratchford complete the tackle to force the knock-on,,,

And Gareth Hock has given the ball away again...Warrington are seven metres out... penalty to Warrington, Atkins is held a foot short...

... that's good defending by Wigan, "and Wigan's line is rocking!" and a long pass out from Ratchford to Monaghan goes out of control.

...

but Lualaki drops the ball again - scrum to warrington.

An awry pass falls into Warrington's hands and Atkins is off over the line, but he's knocked on in taking the interception.

And Wigan's first attack sees Myler tackled behind his own line...

and Warrington attack again, but Josh Charnley pulls down Chris Reilly, and the crowd sit down again.

Atkins is held out towards the Wing

"and Paul Wood has shaved his hair off"

"Yes, he has, Ray..."

And Wigan charge down the kick and take the ball up the pitch, he throws it out but there's nobody there!

Wigan have a scrum eleven metres out after failing to take an advantage from a knock-down "Wigan were very slow to pick that ball up", and Wigan have a penalty, "and its a simple enough try, Gareth Hock saw a little gap there, Warrington seemed to be sleeping a little, and he was in; he scored!"

Warrington 12 - 6 Wigan

And in riposte, Chris Reilly, brought down as he cut inside, plays the ball back, passed to Lee Briers, he dodges one tackle, passes out, and one more pass sees Joel Monaghan scoring "try time at the Halliwell Jones!" "Joel Monaghan does not need any second invitation" "No, Alan, he does not" and Brett Hodgeson calms himself but slips as he kicks the ball just shy of the crossbar at the martin dawes end "I agree with the Wigan fans, Ray, it looked a mile forward, but Wigan look to the referee, to the touch judge, and its their opinion that matters"

Edited by StreetCowboy

Sam Tomkins does a great job to burrow his way over the try line into the field of play, and Lee Briers is down. But he's deemed to have grounded the ball when he slipped behind the line, and now Warrington are coming back, but good defending from Wigan. Warrington are two metres out. Briers launches his hallmark kick, but Monaghan can't claim it, and Wigan are just outside their own 20 metre line, with 90 seconds to go.

And that's the way it ends; "I have to say, Ray, a first half that belonged to the Warrington Wolves... a Warrington pack that has dominated" Wire 16 6 Pie Eaters.

So Wigan will be welcoming the chance to get a pie down, and restart the game. Desperate Dan Cow Pies might be in order....

And the restart hooter goes... "under the floodlights at ten to six on a Saturday afternoon in August - who would believe it?" "You can't beoleive it, Ray" - well, I can tell you commentating gentlemen that stranger things have happened at sea...

Sean O'Loughlin penalised for a high tackle and Hodgeson is going for goal "You don;t see it that often these days" "No, you don't, Ray"; this will mean Wigan need to score three times to win...and over it goes...

And Hodgeson catches Wigan out - off, rather, offside! and he's asking for the kicking tee again - no he's not! out to Lee Briers, to Richie Myler, terrific pickup by Chris rielly... Ryan Atkins is going for the ty line, but he's stopped, out to this right side, then back inside, this for the last tackle, but its a penalty to Wigan - "I don't know what that's for?", Tony Smith gives a wry smile...

Warrington 18 - 6 Wigan.... within the last half hour

And Stephan Ratchford is off! He's plucked it out from the skies from a Wigan kick, Gareth Hock is after him, but "he had the legs, no-one can catch him" against his home town, and so a chance for goal number four... 24 - 6

"Good natured jeers, but it won't put off Brett Hodgeson"

"You know, Alan, this reminds me of the coliseum in Rome, its a real gladiatorial contest"

To be fair, Ray French you're the only one amongst us old enough to remember...

Lee Briers has to be disappointed with that kick, but Wigan have come back

Carmont, he's got support, and they're over in the corner. "Josh Charnley is looking to guide this ball over from 20 metres out, a metre inside the touch line, aiming over the posts at the martin dawes end" (I don't think the other end has a name) "strikes it not so well",

Warrington 24 - 10 Wigan

"Finch is running more, I think he's been told to play his normal game" but Warrington are back on the attack.

Edited by StreetCowboy
Link to comment

And Warrington are on the attack again, the pressure on this Wigan try line is intense - another score here would surely ,,,

"AND THIS IS IT! RICHIE MYLER CAME IN LIKE AN EAGLE - and surely, Alan a conversion to come" "Very much so, Ray"

shh man - the kids!

"It was a terrific pass to Reilly from Michael Monaghan" and this will be the double for Warrington over Wigan - you may remember the corresponding fixture last year, when Warrington took the lead in the league; well this game brings them to within one point, with three games to go....

SC

Ryan Atkins is in, so fast, when he sees his opposite number is going to get the ball, that he forces the knock on.

Mickey Higham has got daylight, but Tomkins has got him...

"And I think this seventeen is looking like the Wembley Seventeen"

"What a revelation Mickey Higham has been for Warrington" though you may remember he was a bit of a mumbler in the commentary box.

And that's it. "You have to say, Ray, a totally professional display by this Warrington side"

"You took the words out of my mouth, Alan"

That's it - 30 - 10 to Warrington. And in a fortnight, the Challenge Cup Final against Leeds....

And the players leave the field with their arms around each other, in true rugby spirit, but with three games to go, can Warrington overtake Wigan from a point behind?

Wigan: Salford (home); Hull KR (away); St Helens (Home)

Well you join us at the Stoop where Warrington will play London Broncos in the hope of going top of the Superleague until Wigan play, later in the weekend, but its the Broncos who go ahead with the first try in the second minute as Kieron Dixon touches down a precisely weighted Craig Gower kick, and Gower's boot adds the two extras as well.

After three and a half minutes, Wolves get the ball in hand for the first time.

And a fumble by Warrington is picked up, the Broncos break, but the defence pull down the attack, but a quick play of the ball sees another Bronco try - wild horses couldn't hold them back...Tony Smith looks a little concerned...

A fumble by the Broncos sees Warrington's first attack, but the ball is dropped a couple of metres out...

After thirteen minutes, Warrington get on the scoreboard - a high, hanging kick is plucked like an apple by Trent Waterhouse, the simplest of passes to Stefan Ratchford and the ball is touched down by the posts London 12 - 6 Warrington

A penalty sees Broncos with six tackles from the Warrington 30 metre mark, and Luke Dorn is able to roll over the Warrington line and wriggle the ball to the grass for Broncos' third try.

Warrington are denied a penalty try, but a few tackles later, Richie Myler darts through a huge gap in the defence and touches down to narrow the gap; after the video ref has a long look for an obstruction where none exists

But a penalty for ripping in the tackle sees the Broncos launch an attack that ends with young Omari Caru, another local boy, scoring on the other wing. A re these the rugby players of the fututre? Will London one day be the next Wigan, famous throughout the land?

We're a third of the way through the game, and Warrington still trail by twelve points.

But not any more! The ball flies loose and Warrington score in the corner.

After the restart, Warrington knock on and the Broncos have possession 30 metres out.

Warrington attack, the ball goes loose, Broncos break, but they're pulled back for offside.

Solomona charges into the defence, but he's brought down - that man must practice tackling busses!

but Broncos survive, and go in for oranges leading 24 - 18

Oh my word! Broncos break again, cutting in from the wing to the centre of the pitch, and Luke Dorn rockets through the heart of the defence to score his second for the night, and his hundredth for the London club, and the gap extends back to 12 points.

Warrington are penalised for crossing as they bring the ball back from a deep kick, but Broncos are unable to capitalise and Warrington pick up a loose ball.

Broncos are inventive, trying to offload; Kaufusi passes out but behind the winger, who was standing in space.

Broncos are struggling to avoid finishing bottom of the superleague for the first time in their 16 seasons

Ben Thaler asks Robert Higgs, the video ref, to comment on Chris Evans dive over the whitewash, but his head is pushed over the corner flag by Robertson's knees.
