OK, another question .. it is visa related. Has anyone tried to drive across the Friendship bridge from Thailand ? Is it a hassle using a Thai registered car ?

My wife is planning to wait in Nong Khai with our baby son and car but if we could drive to Vientienne .. hmmmm

If she and/or baby is Thai they will need a border pass.

Apply Mon-Fri office hours at the Salaklang Changwat or, quicker, via a travel agent in Nong Khai.

The cost is some 300 Baht/person for a border pass. There are several different flavours of border pass, day pass, week pass, month pass or multiple.

No idea about the cost for going in by car though.

Taking a car from Thailand into Laos was discussed on another board some months ago and as I recall it was a hassle with paperwork & money required on both sides of the border.
