Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
You have an expert background in US tax matters. So it's natural for you to feel the need to go deep into the weeds on these matters. I just want the answers. I don't pretend to ever be at your level on such analysis and it simply doesn't interest me. I'm not in a position to argue arcane law to the TRD in Thailand. -

DWP life certificate.
Agree 100%. IMHO the Government Gateway, to which many of us may already be subscribed in order to check State Pension info (if not for filing tax returns to HMRC), should already be able to provide us (with minimal modification) with a sufficiently secure means of proving that we are still in the land of the living for State Pension purposes. -

Trump Administration Begins Deportation Flights in Message of Zero Tolerance
Hmmm, now I'm from Kern County, a child of farm workers, US citizens, Grandparents came from Mexico in the early 20th century. Now it was different times back in the 60/70's, but my parents worked with a mix of citizens, legal and illegal workers. The farm owners knew exactly what they were doing employing the illegals, it simply drove down costs. Now I'd bet my next paycheck every single one of those farm owners was a fully paid up red blooded Republican. Drive down I-5 today and you'll see a bunch of the same nonsense on billboards. This is not to say I disagree with deporting the illegal felons on mass, I do. But the hypocrisy from someone like Belluomini and his ilk sticks in my craw -

Tax files
Well, geez, such a difficult question, but I'll have a go at answering it, may be, just may be, because it forces the people that do have to pay some tax to do so. It catches everyone in the tax net. No, but it may be a requirement that you produce a document from the TRD informing immigration you have no tax to pay. I have suggested that the tax certificate may cost 300, 500, or 1000 baht, just like the certificate of residence, NO RECEIPT. So, they get to tax those that should pay tax, and a nice earner straight in the pocket for those that do not have to pay tax. Time will tell how this unfolds.
