I am posting again regarding my non 0 visa as I have received lots of conflicting information from immigration on what I can and can not do. I am on a non 0 visa due to my daughter being born in Thailand and her father being a Thai citizen. I have had 2 non 0 visas in the past and not had any problems, ie. I have been able to obtain a work permit etc and work on my non 0 visa. I have recently moved to another area in Thailand and re-applied for a new non 0 visa as it had expired. I have been given a non 0 multiple entry visa, but this time under the heading 'remarks' it states 'employment prohibited'. My school contacted bangkok immigration and said I would have to now change my visa to a non B in order to get a work permit and work. I was ok to do this but the paperwork said I had to hav e 21 days left on my 0 visa in order for the change to happen. I had less than 21 days so went to the local immigration office who took the 1,900 baht and stamped my visa for another 7 days (7 days short of what I need). They said there was nothing they could do to help and that I could not change my visa from a non 0 to a non B anyway in Bangkok and that I had to leave the country in order to do so. Is this correct? As in Bangkok they said I didn't. They said they can not give me more than 7 days extention on my visa, is this correct? as previously a different officer told me I could have 39 days. I am not sure what or whom I should talk to now or what I can do.

The local immigration, also told me that my 4 year old daughter was not allowed to come out of the country with me or they would not let her back in as she does not hold a Thai passport on a UK one and that she does not have a valid visa, although she has a Thai b'cert and was registered in the amphur and listed as a Thai citizen. They said in order for her to have a Thai passport so she can come in and out of the country with me she would have to give up her UK passport. I can not believe that this is true. How do they expect a mother to leave their 4 year old child in one country and they go to another and that we must have different passports etc from each other.

I would be grateful for any information that can guide me in the best option for me to do in this situation.

Kind regards

1. Non-O visa and work permit

It is the Department of Employment, not the immigration office, that decides whether you can get a work permit on the basis of your non-O visa. Talk to Department of Employment.

2. Passport for your child, whose father is a Thai national

The information you received from the immigration office is incorrect. They have no say in the matter. Simply apply for a Thai passport for your child at the passport office. It is generally an easy procedure and the Thai passport is issued within a few days. Then have your child always use the Thai passport to leave and enter Thailand, the UK passport to enter and leave the UK.

As Maestro said, nothing to do with Immigration. Talk to Employment.

Passport for your Child would be no problem.

I would have thought that you could get 12 month extensions based on being the Mother of a Thai Child.

2.18 In the case of a family

member of a Thai(applicable only to parents, spouse, child, adopted child or child

of his/her spouse):

Permission will be

granted for a period of

not more than 1 year at a time.

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)

(2) Proof of family relationship

(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.

To be 100% sure, why don't you contact a company like Sunbelt Asia. I have used them over the past 4 years for a number of issues and I have the confidence of knowing the info is right. The problem about a forum, as helpful as they are, is the many different versions one gets. Pay a bit of money and have peace of mind, particularly if you have kids involved.

Good luck
