OK guys, we have to get the next one organised. Seems like I need to keep the ball rolling. Do you have a potential host on the forum, do we have a new topic or direction to talk about? Do we have a date or location in mind?

Give it a go... ideas please.

Might be a good time to get one in before the rain kicks in then leave it till after encase of floods, or we could hold one in bkk for the arm chair farmers sorry ment to say trolls.

Well there was a productive response today! One member who isn't available on an unspecified date, and of course, "Our" Andy the "bridge" builder.

Come on guys, hand up somebody!

I am all in favour of continuing these meetings, they are useful means of exchanging information and knowledge and they are a good way to meet like-minded people, compared with some of the riff-raff who I see on certain forums on TV. I for one have made a number of new friends through these meetings and hope to make more in future, so long may they continue.

In my view two and a half to three months is a good frequency, so I would like to see the next meeting sometime in early July, the rains shouldn't be too bad by then.

Having hosted the last meeting I am not going to volunteer to do the next, although I am happy to do another at some time in the future, so like IsaanAussie I appeal for someone to come forward and set the ball rolling.

June should be OK with me. I know there are a couple of "resorts" in Nacha Luai.

Are you sure there are no newish short time resorts in Buntharik Jim, they seem to grow up everywhere?

Local karaokes with police escort will do the after bar thing for me! biggrin.png

Sounds OK to me Jim, are you back now to guard your fish pond? Where is your place, can you give coordinates so that I can find you on Google Earth and do a search nearby for resorts

Well done Jim, we all have a clearer "vision" now as well. Will you be holding any demonstrations? Fish stunning with a motorbike battery? Or perhaps major personal injury treatments?

For the non Aussies, this is called taken the p1ss. For those who are growing rubber, Jims operation includes processing it as well. Don't miss the chance to see how it is done.

]No I am still stuck in OZ, have the other cataract done on the 9th of May and will be on the first plane back as soon as they say I can fly. If you google map Ban Sang Hom issan Thailand that will show my village, but the rubber processing is done on the main road 2248 15 km south of Buntharik.

Trond there are a few places in Buntharik to stay, but no bars except the bamboo type with under age Lao girls. If I have an idea of how many i can get the wife, [who flew back last week] to go and see if there are rooms available.

I am open to any date in June, whoever is interested come on down. Will work it out as we go. Jim

Hi Jim,

Delighted that all goes well for you so far in OZ and hope that after you've had the other cataract op on the 9th. you will then be able to come back to LOS and see what your rubber trees look like again! We will be thinking of you.

Thrilled that you are offering to have the next Meeting at yours as we would love to see both your trees and the rubber mat factory (with the fishless ponds behind!). We do however have a problem with June as we are having to make our annual pilgrimage round the UK & US visitting my children and grandchildren - including latest additions from latter May until virtually the end of June! Any chance of making it in July instead of June? If this is not so good for you or other farmers, No Problem, go ahead with June and we can pop down to see you and the rubber someother date later.

See what fits with others first.

All the best,

Anthony (AA1).

Anthony you are welcome anytime, if not for a meeting we are more than happy for you and family come and stay with us. Everything in it 's own time, That goes for all, we are happy to have visitors anytime, just don't have space for groups unless they are like Thais and are happy to sleep on the floor. Jim

I hope to be in Thailand mid June to mid July. Had great time at Bergens house and looking forward to coming to another meeting. Have we got an exact date and place yet?

Hi all

before I get to the point, going to have a bit of a moan. As some of you will know my stay in OZ was a little longer than I had planned, 9 weeks longer, so haven't been able to sort out a get together here [yet]. As per normal if you go away for more than a few days, the whole place falls apart. Wife and kids came back a month earlier then me, she was to get some builders and knock down an old bedroom and old toilet. Our house is new on one side with a roofed open area attached to the old slilt house with bricked in bottom and bedroom and toilet at the back. FIL in his wisdom says the whole old house should go, good idea, but there are 9 adults and 5 kids living here at the moment and 3 bedrooms have been wiped. Back to comunal sleeping with the contence of the old house spread everywhere.

First thing I do when I got back, all hot and sweaty is head for the shower, no hot water. 90 Baht switch has been broken for 2 months, cold shower. Next I note all cooking is being done on a charcoal bucket, gas cooker broken. Back yard reverted to jungle, kids bikes out there somewhere rusting away.

Off to the factory to find some bozzo has been burning off and burnt the sign out side down and almost burnt the office down . Just to top it all off I have cought a bug that has filled the local hospital to bursting point.

All in all still better than living and working in OZ.

So the get together is still on, but will have to be in July at this point. Bergen is back so will catch up with him and see what we can arrange. Think it will be a lower turn out due to the isolation and distance. If I can get some numbers for the 7th of July it would help. Jim

Welcome back to LOS, everything sounds perfectly normal!

We, (TW and I) would be happy to make it on 7th July despite the fact that you seem to live out in the boondocks on the edge of nowhere. WF

local builder told me he to much on to come quote me for a job, worth about 100,000 I found out it was because he wanted to fight chickens and get drunk with his mates. just about given up with my let down thai staff, I am going to employ all bermese workers this year and its very easy just have to pay tax up front. I am not knocking Thailand I love it here but the men are very work shy drunks, sorry but its true.

Hi Jim. You are lucky, I'm still stuck in OZ with Juliar Gillard and her bunch of cronies. Well sounds like you returned to Thailand with anything that could go wrong go wrong and in the usual Thai way no one would fix it up and left everything until you got back. TIT mate. I know exactly what you mean as have had same experience many times. At time of writing things are up in the air as to when I return to Thailand, daughter wanting to leave her husband, crook knee, bloody cold weather and other things. I try to stop myself remembering what one of our great statesmen said once, "Life wasn't meant to be easy " as he took the silver spoon out of his mouth. I think it wasn't to much longer than then when he was caught with his trousers down in New York. Enough about our elustrious polies though. Welcome back to Thailand and the warmer weather. Hope to get to the meeting at your place which will be the day after my 69th birthday. I am not sure where you live exactly so could you give us. the ones who don't know your are a bit of a hint. Looking forward to meeting up with you all again. David smile.pngbiggrin.pngclap2.gif

My internet is so slow I can't get google maps up most of the time. Here it is amatter of type in notes cut and paste when I get a signal post, Easy way to figure out where I am is to go to maps find the Thai/Lao/ Cambodia border [Emerald triangle] From cambodia follow the Lao border north for around 50km . Or google ban sang hom issan. Jim

Would definitely be up for this. 7th july is a hashing day, but I will in the UK for the following 2 Saturdays, so looks like

I'm going to be out of luck anyway.

Know what you mean about everything going to pot when you go away. I'm sure Thailand has had many nice places built but they all return to the wild given a couple of years!
