PHUKET: -- The off-duty cop who shot a man dead in Phuket Town on May 5 has been granted bail.

Though some details about the case have come to light, the exact cause of the argument that led Cpl Rachaporn Semaksorn to shoot Eakkasit Sangangam in the head ,on Phun Pol Soi 11 in Phuket Town, is still unclear.

“The shooting wasn’t over a woman; it was caused by a heated argument over something else,” Deputy Superintendent Jumroon Plaiduang told the Phuket Gazette.

“They both [Cpl Rachaporn and his brother Dechaporn] saw Mr Eakkasit sitting on his parked motorbike. They attempted to stare him down, and then the three of them got into an argument.

“They all are still young and impetuous, so when they get angry they cannot control themselves,” said Lt Col Jumroon.

Col Jumroon confirmed to the Gazette that the police were collecting evidence and conducting a forensic inspection of the gunshot residue. Once finished, the case will be sent to the prosecutor.

The Gazette contacted the Phuket Provincial Court and was informed that the brothers had been released on bail, but the court officer declined to give any further information.

“They all are still young and impetuous, so when they get angry they cannot control themselves,” said Lt Col Jumroon.

So, you let them roam the streets, did you take their guns?

Exactly, well said....clap2.gif

I take it potential BiB don't need to take some kind of psychiatric evaluation?

If the police corporal is that unhinged, why was he given a badge and a gun in the first place?

Yes, that statement made me raise my eyebrows.

My thoughts exactly. Why are young men who can't control themselves allowed to join the police force.

Because they paid their fee. Not much else really matters.

Seems everyone noticed that too. When I was young I was given a gun but didn't shoot anyone from a 'stare down' as I had control. Of course this was in the military where one would be seriously held accountable for it. wink.png

Because they would never have any Thai men in the Thai police force if they did that

It really is quite unbelievable isn't it? If a farang got into an argument which resulted in a minor assault on a Thai person, he wouldn't stand a chance of getting out on bail, as they would regard him as a flight risk.

This is of course based upon the assumption that he would manage to get away from the fight scene before being set upon by a dozen other Thai men!

I think it is fairly obvious to all expats that Thailand is fast disappearing under its own bulls**t and it will get worse as there is no one to stop it. Maybe because of this fact, those of us who had decided to live here should, review that decision and look for new opportunities. Don't get dragged into the Thai way of thinking that Thailand is the only place in the world to live.

I think they have to buy their own guns, they are not given to them.

Probably an old photo, but this sums it up, how can the law be upheld, when the enforces don't act by the law?

That's the problem on Phuket. Police not abiding by the law and not upholding the law, sending a message to everyone they can do what they want and just pay money to them if caught.

This is leading Phuket in one direction, increased theft, violence, drugs, assaults etc.

How are the authorities going to turn this island around when their police force is so entrenched in corruption????

Because then there would be NO ONE on the police force till they hit their 60's.

No, but they've had to turn in their Hello Kitty badges. sad.png

Nice try, but, that looks like it's on private land where they can legally have as many police men on a motorbike as they want to.

Maybe because he mastered one of these famous entry exams with the highest possible scores?

Don't you people realise that granting bail to murder suspects is not unique to Thailand?? For example, recently in the US, George Zimmerman was released on a US$150K bond after his lethal shooting of Trayvon Martin (look up the names... it's a big case there) ... the bond was only revoked when it was discovered that Zimmerman had more money than initially disclosed. This was a high-publicity case, so I'm sure such things--bail for murder suspects--happens all the time. Having worked with the police in Canada, I can tell you it happens there also, and not infrequently. So why crack on the Thai system? Probably easier for an American to flee to another country than a Thai also... Thai passports are a guaranteed hassle at immigration in most countries I'm aware of.

Hey that's a blue Honda Dream. Aren't they looking for one of those bikes in connection to a recent murder ?
