I think all westerners are naturally cynical to a degree whereas the Thai's a naturally positive people. You only have to go back home to the west to see how cynical we are, especially in the U.K. Look at our soap operas, all doom and gloom, and our newspapers. When the Beckhams had their aniversary party there was a small column on page 16 of one of the tabloids, when it came out he'd been unfaithful to Victoria there was a FIVE page spread.

Maybe it's the weather, but westerners are natural cynics, especially when surrounded by other westerners. The expats upcountry tend to be happier because they are away from the tourist spots and the 'cynical expats', which I think I've said already in my opening post.

The self proclaimed 'positive expats' moan about the cynical expats but they are still moaning themselves by doing this, because we all do. Bob Marley sang 'There's so much trouble in the world' - does that make him a cynic?

Some of us are just realists whereas some people just wear blinkers and call themselves happy then slag off anybody who is having a bad time with Thailand which happens to many of us, not me yet touch wood, but I don't expect it to be happiness and sunshine all the way.
