Eric Peter

PHUKET: -- An American expat living in Phuket was arrested on Saturday morning (January 19) on firearms charges, after saying the gun in his possession “went off by itself”.

Eric Peter, 33, appeared in Phuket Provincial Court later that same day on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place.

People living near Chalong Circle called police early on Saturday morning after being woken at 5am by the sound of a gunshot.

Half an hour later Pol Lt Wuthiwat Leangboonjinda, duty officer at Chalong Police Station, arrested Mr Peter.

In his possession officers found a revolver and 49 bullets. Mr Peter told police that he was not trying to shoot anyone but that the gun “went off by itself”.

He added that the gun was not his; it belonged to a Thai who had given it to him as security against a loan of B50,000.

“I just brought it with me,” he explained.

After appearing in court, he was released on bail to await his next hearing.

A ''revolver'' going off by itself. laugh.png Near impossible. rolleyes.gif

What about the Thai MP whose sub machine gun went off "by accident" in a restaurant and killed somebody then?

I both cases you need to take the safecatch off and pull the trigger.

Us Brits seem to get a slamming on here quite often about things we do, but you hardly ever hear about us with guns, with fists and baseball bats and stuff okay, but never guns.

A Browning 9mm is a revolver it needs to be cocked, and it also has a small safety catch.

As Transam does say it can go off by being dropped.

Browning 9mm is a semi auto used by UK forces. The picy shows a 2 inch barrel revolver.

Yes I know, and am saying that a pistol has to be cocked and also can have a safety catch.

Me, worked on a few, Colt, S & W, but never seen a revolver with a safety catch, though you could be right and they are out there. thumbsup.gif

Revolver doesn't have a safety catch cos you physically have to cock the hammer, either by pulling the trigger to cock and fire or pull the hammer back with your thumb. Only one way it can go off accidentally is if fine tuning the trigger mechanism (which l have done in the past) but it still has to be manually cocked. It has been known for a revolver to discharge if dropped but l doubt in this case.

A revolver does indeed have a safety. Just pull the hammer back part way and a safety block comes up and blocks the firing pin from being struck by the hammer.

In my mind that is not a safety catch.

Why am I always reading about Americans and guns?!

That's OK, Europeans got their cars, Americans got their guns. No problem, right? Both can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

That was a senator and the who accidentally killed his ex-wife with a sub-machine gun.

Politicians can not be prosecuted while parliament is in season.
