The 180,000 Bt (the price will have increased by now) includes three attempts to drill to hit water. If after three attempts, no water, then you're out of luck. It took two attempts for me to hit water.

It includes pumps, breaker boxes, switches and everything you need, plus registration and all the paperwork done for you.

This is/was the price on Phuket. It could be different elsewhere.

We paid 283.000 baht one year ago. The first attempt ended in solid hard granite at 40 meters, but at the second try they found water at 70 meter. Of course it was expensive, but here is no public water and the water source we had before have disappeared.

"It includes pumps, breaker boxes, switches" plural? huh.png

We are currently thinking about having a deep bore well drilled because the government water supply is so eratic. We have two drillers in the village who we know very well ( no pun intended ). They usually drill to between 20 and 40 metres to find the supply. They supply all materials and will drill until water is found which doesn't seem to be too difficult for them. Total cost is 13,000 baht -- that's thirteen thousand baht. Having read the comments from around the country we asked a local government official who was at our house this morning about the license and meter issue. He told us we do not need a license/contract or even a meter. Furthermore, we do not need to pay for any water pumped . So it seems it depends on where you are as to what the regulations are -- if any. Just as another thought in a similar vein, when we built our house we consulted the government office regarding building regs etc. They told us to build whatever we wanted, where we wanted and no need for plans or permission...

Sounds more like a normal well and not a deep bore well.

Where is this?

What exactly differentiates a "deep-bore" from a well?

The furthest any pump can draw a head of water is about 34 feet. That is due to atmospheric pressure. There is no such force as "suck" - the pump works by removing the air from the pipe and atmospheric pressure pushes the water up the pipe.

If you want to go deeper, you send the pump down the well so it pushes the water up.

there is an exception Your Honour, called "jet pump" which uses the so-called "venturi principle" to overcome the atmospheric limitations.

OT but let me elaborate; this is well known in physics as nature abhors a vacuum.

It is actually Bernoulli's principle causing the venturi effect and is also why the wing shape must be exact , bulbed on top- to provide lift.

I like that number (13,000B) allot better than 180K. Do they include the pump at that price? What area are you in?

Chumley, yes, that price includes the pump and connected up to a power supply. I think all we have to do is figure out the connections into the existing pipework. We live in Buriram province.

Stevenl -- this is definately a deep bore well. Not sure of the diameter pipe, could be 2" only. Most houses in our area have them because we are in the middle of nowhere with only a village water supply which fails regularly. A couple of years ago we did start to dig our own well and got down about 3 metres. At this stage it was already filling with water and digging had to stop until the very dry season. At this time we had another look but the edges had fallen in so we ended up filling it back in again. Our province is Buriram in the north-east.

We are going to get the drillers in after Sonkran, so if this post is still active, I will detail what happens.

don't think but check. there no such thing like a deep bore well that costs 13k Baht including the pump and hook up. the cheapest submersible pump is costlier than the total price you quoted.

Look like your people never make well before. When reach 3 meter you must add rings already or very dangerous. When the water start comes use a submersible pump and then continue digging and add more rings. I have a 12 meter well made like this.
