The women were in possession of 1.79 grams of crystal methamphetamine

PHUKET: -- Two young women were arrested last night (October 10) in Patong on charges of possession of crystal methamphetamine (ya ice).

The duo were arrested during a raid led by Pol Lt Col Pongpichan Chayanonpiriya at a guesthouse on Nanai Rd.

Premruethai Chomchuen, 21, from Uthai Thani, was found to be in possession of a bag containing 0.3 of a gram of ya ice while Chaipornthip Phajunda, 23, from Udon Thani, was holding three bags of ice totaling 1.49 grams.

Both were taken to Kathu Police Station where they were charged with possession.

Actually the fact that almost never bigger busts are made leads me to suspect that they might be protected and the BIB only take off the small fry once in a while.

But you could be right too.. this country makes me a cynic at times.

So what happens now to these girls who were possibly selling it, due to the fact it was bagged up, selling half grams as a gram. In general what happens next in such cases..

Class one drug considered serious in Thailand. 35 years ago while spending time here the death sentence was still being enforced for manufacture, posession and trafficking heroin and other drugs.

Do they stay in jail until they have a trial? Do they get bail? What length of sentence are they looking at?
