Quite amusing. I think these village people on bikes have accomplished what they intended. A reaction! As indicated by a thread 18 hours old with 90 replies....

Regardless of their motives their behaviour is to get a reaction and it succeeded.

Best bet? Ignore them. Be like water and flow around them.

They think they are cool so what. Their dress and choice of bike is no different to what amulet or how many amulets other sectors of Thai society wear.

Whats a Hardley ?

A "Hardly" is the motorcycle favored by stupid <deleted> everywhere. Why stupid? Because Hardly's are over priced and unreliable. One has to be stupid to pay extra for nothing. Why <deleted>? Read the OP.

was about to go for a ride with a harley guy during last bike show as the guy blocked the entrance to teh bike parking area and only allowed harley group to pass and do not let others like they are the king.

Anyway, i got angry and ride my bike to his harley inched close and pushed him to get out of the way with some horn.

He moaned a bit but let me go after seeing my angry farang face.

Know for a fact that Thais are not afraid of your "angry farang" face.

I came from a part of the world where 'HD' IS a way of life,it's a proverbial religion for gods sake...at least before it snows.....day and night all freaking summer these things "bark" in droves around town....everything from the irritating and obnoxious sound to the attire and attitude reeks with cult-like disfunction. 20yrs ago it was 'cool' to see someone riding a Harley, but these days it's a freak'n tatted-up fashion show!.....silly bikes for silly riders.

Unless you are a HD mechanic, maintaining considerable distance from HD collective mania, is seriously advised (world-wide).

I agree with a lot of the replies, they look like a nice bike but I'll never own one. I find other brands and models to be better spec'd and a lot cheaper to buy (And maintain).

As with most genuine bikers I agree with the axiom "Its not what you ride, but that you do ride" Thats what makes a true rider/biker. A friend of mine (Fellow kiwi) has ridden all around Thailand and clocked up many kms on a Keeway Superlight 200! Not something Id like to do but hey... good on him for endurance.

Each to their own, but I have to agree about noisy obnoxious aholes that modify their bikes to make them louder. Whats the point? Surely they know that they just piss off the majority of people....if thats their aim well all I can say is that your time will come. Someone some where will repay your inconsiderate behaviour which will hopefully change your outlook and style of riding.

Loud does not always mean you are fast.

ok time to get on my bike... nice day out rolleyes.gif

To each his own. Most true "riders" share one thing, regardless of what they ride, and that is the love to ride. I've been all over northern Thailand on my CBR's, and never had a trip I didn't enjoy. Nothing against cruiser style, but just not for me. I much prefer crotch rockets. It took my Thai wife a while to understand my passion, until the Thai wife of a friend told her - "It's a falang thing. They just love to ride." Right now the only thing I'm riding is a stationary bike after screwing up my back, then having a minor stroke, but I figure around February I'll be hitting the roads again on a new CB500f.

here let e explain what is happening

HD owners dont egnolidge driverswith cheap japanese bikes, and that is a fact. If I would have harley other bikers would be a pest for me, HD is a status

it is like comparing a ford and lambo, do you think a lambo driver will egnlidge ford pickup drivers? No... but he will egnolidge other labo and ferrari drivers,

you get it??

stop crying and buy a HD if you miss proper hellos from hairy guys on hogs

Also I would be buying ninja 650 probably so I will wave you hello, but till then hopefully you will not own a HD and become a smartass

why unreliable, HD almost never break down, I talked with other guys, you can travel distances for years and it will never break down, that is what HD is, a super machine (overpriced of course)

We used to call these Hardley Desirable and still think they are about as much fun to ride as a sit on lawnmower .

Dont say I havent tried one I have rode most models since 1986 as I used to be a partner with a Hd franchise and believe me we thrashed these horrible excuses of a proper motorcycle and still if I did choose it would be a honda dream every

Time

Must admit I can understand if your in America (or american) for example just divorced and have problems with erectile dysfunction and a 500 km straight road with not a single bend then why not! Still I would have a honda dream .

Sorry if I wm sounding anti HD its just they are shit overpriced lawnmowers that attract <deleted> !

But what kinda <deleted> does that make you for selling them?

What I find curious about Harleys is that they seem to get a free pass on noise pollution. Even in my home country of Australia a Harley's exhaust note is enough to rattle windows, and several riding together is absolutely ear shattering, and yet the police turn a deaf ear. Why? Try driving a car that is equally as loud as a Harley and you will get a defect notice slapped on your windscreen before you've backed out of your driveway.

Agree,

Do some of you not know that some very well off folk around the world own and ride Brough Superior SS 1000cc V-twins from yester year, up to eighty odd year old. No rear suspension, oil drip valve lubrication etc etc. I worked on them.

Why do you think they buy and ride them ?, when they could go out and buy a smooth hairdryer with wheels ?...............Well, to me it's a passion, in fact that applies to everything anyone wants to do. Look at vintage cars for instance, many are bone shakers or mechanically more dangerous to drive than a modern ride, but the passion is there for it. smile.png

I've been a bike owner for over 30 years, having owned Hondas, Kawasakis, and a couple of Yamahas. I've owned cruisers and crotch rockets.

When I lived in Calgary, Canada, the local Harley dealership would have a free ride weekend, where they had one of every model including the Buells.

All you had to do was show up with a bike license, helmet and leather jacket and you could sign up for a ride on any bike. The ride was decent, about 6 km including both highway and city driving for a well rounded experience.

I've driven most of the models Harley puts out and they're all decent bikes. The Buells, which are Harley's crotch rocket were awesome.

All in all, nice bikes but not worth the money. I didn't see $20,000 worth in the difference between my Kawi Vulcan and a big Harley cruiser.

The day before yesterday (2 days ago) and I came up behind an Er6n travelling on Thepprasit Rd. It had a modified exhaust that made the engine sound like the B&S engine on my old lawnmower when it had a broken exhaust manifold. Loud and annoying!

My Chum has two Harleys in LOS, both works of art. thumbsup.gif

is there official service in bkk, pattaya or CM for harleys? or you need to go to local hanymen who do now know shit about HD?

Don't know chum. In Ubon there is a farang who fixes them, also Thai folk who know their stuff. thumbsup.gif

is there no law in Thailand for exhaust noise

I know in Europe if you buy harley stock model, they are not loud at all, I miss that but I guess they have to complay with EU laws or something

In the UK there are very stringent laws regarding bike exhausts though the police are very patient regarding Harleys. My yank 4 wheel ride in the UK had a racing exhaust system and I never had a problem with police cos they liked my ride thumbsup.gif .

Must add in 1965 I got nicked for excessive noise from my Lambretta whistling.gif and ended up in front of a judge w00t.gif ...........laugh.png

I was riding to Bira circuit last weekend from Jomtien on Route 331 on my Ninja 1000. As I was still running in the bike, I took it slowly, keeping it below 4000 RPM and alternating speeds, down- and up shifting as frequently as I could. Along the way, I saw a group of riders, mostly on Harleys, a couple of other on sports bikes, coming up from the back. I pulled over to the left side of the road and waved them past.

What was interesting was that both the sportbike riders and only one of the Harley riders waved to me as they passed. The other 6 or so did not even so much as glanced in my direction. I am wondering, never having ridden a Harley before, could it be that it's a difficult machine to ride so much so that you need to keep both your hands on the handlebars and only keep looking where you want to go?

The OP obviously doesn't know a real bike from a scooter. I cannot be sure, but me thinks he is referring to Harley Davidson motorcycles. As a Harley Road King owner myself, I can say this, if you've never owned one, and ridden it for years, then you don't qualify to comment since you have no idea what you are talking about. Additionally, to all non Harley riders, please stay off the road so we can cruise by at our own power pace. We don't need to go fast, we just want to enjoy the ride on our beautiful bikes! There is only one thing better than riding a Harley......

yeah a harley king is speaking.

If you guys do not clog the roads, i will not give a <deleted>.k to you guys. You can do your power! ride on formations of two on slow lane if you want, please do not occupy the fast lane, that is for fast vehicles/bikes not for hot iron!

If you guys be a little considerate to the other riders like by not blocking the entrance of a bike show etc to others and allow only Harley riders to pass, i will be grateful too as you guys are not special just because you ride harleys.

Dont get me wrong, I have no problems with a Harley, my granddad had a 1947 harley and he was cruising with it 1000s of kms and i appreciate the freedom Harley offered to millions. But that was many years ago and still going on with the design and tech of 1910s and 1920s does not make any sense to me as someone believing on human, science, art and technological development. Yep, you might come to me reasoning nostalgia - the only offering make sense to me on a Harley - which i might accept but still it does not give you the right to piss people off - and riders below 40 has no time and reason for nostalgia.

I have problems with fake Harley attitude. Again, riding a harley does not make you special as a honda click 125 or a cbr150 outperform your bike man nowadaysbiggrin.png if you want to see real Harley attitude, please check the movie Easy Rider! They are real stuff!

The bikes aren't really my cup of tea, but like classic cars I can see why they appeal to some people.

Can't really tar all the owners with the same brush either. Just as an example, my friends father has a 48 and he's one of the nicest guys you could meet. It's only like, 90% of them that are ageing, wannabe tough guys. The other 10% are just normal pensioners smile.png.

dont knock a hd till you ride one, ive had gsxr's,fireblades, exup 1000's,zxr's loved them all but a friend gave me his hd to try years back & i loved them since , but ive got my sports bikes still as its just a different buzz that you get out of each, get the right hd & set it up properly it will ride as hard & fast as any except on a real twisty back road it needs experience , dynas are the best , there is some good specialist hd shops in thailand , bkk & pattaya have several , the thais love their custom harleys , go to a bike week there and you will see - biggest bike week in asia is burapa bike week , see you all there post-70166-13842513400122_thumb.jpg
