I thought the headline meant paperwork on new arrivals lost. Images of people getting to immigration and being arrested for illegal entry...etc

Bring back Thai-sticks, liberalize some other policies and they will come no mater whats going on in BKK. This is one of the best places in the world to live and that is why I'm here. Leave the "politican" to the Thais and have a good time. Thai people are not going to shoot a tourist.

Suthep and his cronies never card much for Thailand. It is not a coincidence that they kill each other for decades in the deep South the democrat's power base. Everything to protect their own wealth and access to cheap often forced labor. Everything is better for them than democracy. Interesting to see that they are finished with the monarchy after statements were made that did not pleased them. Look at their funny demands, nothing about the monarchy anymore everything seem to have vaporised in a week's time.

large chunk of foreign arrivals lost

no, surely not a large chunk, it's more like a huge piece, or a very big part, but not a large chunk!

(because a large chunk would make a sound, like "clunk", and we didn't hear that!)

Sadly Thailand has lost its sparkle thats for sure especially with the younger people in my company back home in the UK most of our young apprentices were so desperate to come to Thailand for extended holidays but not so now as someone said earlier on the forum its just not a cool place to come to anymore to much bad shit happens in Thailand and its forever got government warnings not to come here so difficult for proper insurance cover.

Once again, who would believe that tourism only contributes 6% to the Thai GDP? It's almost the only thing they talk about!

Anyway, it's not over. They will call an election, Reds will win again - how could they not with the vast majority of the country's support? Then what? Suthep standing on stage again calling for a coup?

New foreign investment will be down as a result, QE in the US tapering off so foreign money already invested will continue to be pulled out, the damage to the economy from the rice scam, water scam, etc will be more acute, the housing market will continue to freeze up, tourism will certainly be down if there is another coup -- this time it will be bloody.

In other words, Thailand will be cheap and chaotic again!

What "vast majority" of the country's support are you drivelling on about?

Once again the National Bureau Of Thaksin Propaganda says 'everything wrong in the country is all the anti government protestors faults !' Oh what a surprise. Utter rubbish !

But that's not as good as the car manufacturers association claiming that ASN election is going to be good for car sales????

If a butterfly flaps it's wings...

A high speed train would fix their tourism woes.

Well with more than 105 trains off the tracks so far this year, I really wonder, it may increase the casualities and money owed to the hospitals but not more.

Reading the headline i got the image of a gaggle of Indian blokes wandering around confused among the protestors looking for a cheap 42" led tv and a happy ending

These base and bigoted images are most likely substance induced. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Lots of "wills" being used, which leads me believe you must have an inside scoop from someone of divine authority to speak with such certainty.

You appear to have missed the religious divide down South, which also contributes to the local problems, as well as those provinces where many would seem to prefer to speak their own language & be part of another country, nothing to do with cheap or forced-labour after all.

I've got to agree about tourism "only being 6%" if every day one body or another is moaning about the loss of tourists and their baht. If it was only 6%, it would not be headline worthy day in and day out.

I think it was 6% for 25 years ago. It is around 25%.

Lots of black money and not paying tax in tourism business and it is little bit difficult for Thai authorities to admit that they are depended on the tourism.

According to William E Heinecke the chairman of the Minor international group, tourism and service industries now account for 25 per cent of the country's GDP.

Heineckes word is more trustworthy than any mr. Big shot Thai minister.

What would Chang mai, Pattaya, Koh Samui, Phuket, Krabi and Hua hin be without all the foreign tourism?

In the main I believe you are correct. They're actually mostly stabbing them instead. Some are lucky and get off with just being drugged & robbed.

Perhaps all the missing-tourists have fallen into a Black-Hole, the same one which swallowed the warehoused-rice, missing from the government's warehouses ? rolleyes.gif

Looks like the finance minister is "trying" to come up with an excuse as to why the countries coffers / trough is running low ... easy to blame the anti gov. protesters for the sad state the Countries financers are in ....What no rice money ???..................... Election time ........

The Brits are staying at home to keep up the numbers, so that when the Romanians and Bulgarians move there in January, they won't become the minority in the UK....but thats another story, my mistake.
