BANGKOK: -- Several offices at the Finance Ministry and Government Complex were damaged along with property and cars, plus computer laptops, a preliminary investigation has found.

Pol Colonel Anucha Ramayanant, deputy spokesman of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), said his agency sent forensic experts and an explosive-ordnance disposal team to examine damage at the Government Complex and Finance Ministry after the protesters left these two places on Monday and shifted their rally to Government House.

But the team was only able to check four police agencies - the Office of the Inspector-General, the Office of Internal Audits, the Technology Crime Suppression Division, and the Immigration Division. Several offices in these agencies were dismantled and property damaged.

Pol Lieutenant Udom Rujirachakorn, of Thung Song Hong, who was tasked to investigate the damage, said he found that a laptop owned by the Technology Crime Suppression Division was stolen, along with personal items belonging to staff.

He would study surveillance-camera footage to investigate the crime scene and find the thieves.

Pol Colonel Pattana Pessa-yanawinm, of Bang Sue station, said his team had checked damage at the Finance Ministry and found that two cars owned by Provincial Police Region 1, five owned by the the Auditor-General's Office, and two owned by the Finance Ministry were damaged. The windows of these were broken when they were taken to block the entrance. But Pattana said no offices at the ministry were dismantled and no damage or suspect objects had been found.

Government spokesman Teerat Ratanasevi said the PM had asked ministers to let the media check on damage that occurred during the occupation of state offices. The government has said it will take legal action if damage is found.

Yesterday, Provincial Police Region 1 commissioner Police Major General Kachen Kotchapalayuk and Finance Ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Supa Piyajitti jointly examined the ministry’s compound.

Kachen said they found two giant firecrackers hidden on the ground floor of Comptroller General Department. At least four closed circuit television (CCTV) boxes were missing, along with 20 cell phones, 10 iPads, and three laptops.

At the ICT Ministry, a few windows were broken by hard objects thrown from the outside. Some offices were also searched, he said.

Hardly compares to setting Central World on fire does it?

Seems like they specifically targeted Hard drives - which means someone is probably now looking through them for dirt.

Could also be a more simple case of a light-fingered protester looking to get some computer components.

Either way - they really are trying to overplay this.

I condem what the reds did, that was a criminal act and all should be in jail.

but stealing from the government and such is also a criminal act.

We have no idea what was on those hard drives that they stole / broke.

most likely it was information that was harmful to them or suthep or whatever but might be even more scary.

I was not aware, that theft and vandalism is only theft and vandalism, if it worse than what somebody else did!

Re the photo in the OP.

I have seen computers arranged in such a fashion many times, it looks like a standard IT Dept cannibalisation room.

I think the PT government, in a desperate attempt to conceal info, ripped them out..
