IMO it was an assassination attempt

[RedShirtedLunatic]

Obviously Suthep was trying to kill himself so he could become dictator for life.

[/RedShirtedLunatic]

Besides, Red Shirts would never, ever even think of lobbing grenades at people they deem their enemies.

One question to the conspiracy theorists here that claim this attacks are all false flag actions. What would it take for you to say, "actually, that looks like they are being attacked by their opponents"?
Also, please explain how bombing and shooting at protesters by "Yellow shirts" would help to increase the number of people willing to join the protester ranks.

RT@Tulip_Oum: Red shirt led by "Ko-Tee" Pathumthani brings 60 pick-up trucks and hundreds of motorcycles to face with PDRC Changwattana.

No third hand here..... pure red shirt violence brought to bear by a red shirt leader wanting violence.

Come on Army..... end it now and lock up Yingluck and Surapong NOW!

You mean the Army with clear majority of conscripts being red supporters? Bangkok elite families with their oh so "beautiful" minds had "better" things for their kids than actually sending them to serve in the Army. Ups!

I predicted a few days ago that exactly this would happen. Who do you think is more likely to have M26 grenades? a) Isaan rice farmers or b. navy SEALS ?

c. Black shirt Cambodians from Uncle Hun Sen

d. red shirts with the same source of weapons as they had in 2010!

Face it - red shirts are thug murderers - live with it!!

Just from reading your posts in this thread and judging by your tone, ones go to ask, are you a Suthep sympathizer?

Anybody with half a brain understands what is going on here. Mr. Suthep and his goons are trying to reestablish the Bankgok feudal rule by so called "reforms". The reforms would tweak the constitution and the election laws so that the Bangkok elite would always have the last say in setting up a government. So no matter how the majority would vote, their side would always be winning.

No wonder the reds are furious, the arrogant Bangkokians once again are trying to screw them. Careful there, Bangkok might just burn like Sarajevo or like Rome in ancient times if you keep pushing the reds...

The reds are furious because they believe these ridiculous conspiracy theories??!?!

Another one living in an expat bubble, believing in everything what his girlfriend is saying...

Is that the best you can come up with? rolleyes.gif

The conflict is evolving... The real Bangkok middle class seems fed up with these criminals hijacking the city, the business and revenues of hard working people.

No wonder some of them lose patience and want to send them a message.

Best is for all those yellow losers to go back home and for Suthep to head to the prison -_-

Dozens wounded in bomb attack against anti-govt protesters
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Jan 17 - More than 20 people were wounded as a homemade explosive device was thrown into a group of anti-government protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) marching through Bangkok today.

The attack occurred as the protesters were forming the procession at Banthad Thong Road, waiting for their leader Suthep Thaugsuban to join and lead them to the next destination. Mr Suthep was not hurt in the incident.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Erawan Emergency Medical Centre reports that at least 28 people were injured in the explosion and they were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The demonstrators were asked to leave the area immediately for their safety, while the protesters' guards searched for suspected persons claimed to be seen in an abandoned building where they also found a suspicious item.

Police then arrived amid some disgruntled protesters. They said the PDRC guards are allowed to inspect the scene until they are satisfied. A combined forces of police, soldiers and municipal official will later inspect the scene.

At least eight people have been killed and several hundreds have been injured since a series of anti-government protests started in November. (MCOT online news)

There's a fifty percent chance it was done by red shirt supporters and a fifty percent chance it was done by Suthep cronies looking to cause trouble. And a 100% chance that the truth will never be known. Cowardly all the same. But step back for a moment and consider that Suthep was the guy who ordered the army to open fire on the people in 2010 who were demanding an election. And now he is out shutting the city down to prevent an election. The only way he was able to get power was by brokering a deal with one of the most openly corrupt politicians in the country. No wonder he doesn't want an election.

So you are saying that the military that ousted Thaksin and cracked down on the red shirts leaving 92 dead were the kids of the rich and elite?

Man.... you are disturbed in the head!

The Army learned their lessons in 2010, Thailand was on the brink of civil war. Since then the rural northern Thailand has two more army divisions established. The balance of power inside Army has changed. It is about 10 divisions against 7 in Bangkok today. The 1st Army of Bangkok cannot do anymore whatever and whenever they feel like doing.

Does your nothern divisions include air force?

When all else is failing, the Thaksinists revert to their default position - violence. You can tell when things are going bad for them, the TVF Thaksin sycophants start trotting out the conspiracy theories

But that just makes you sound like a Suthep hugger.

This week we have watched the Student thugs forcee people out of office, hassle venders, randomly beat up and detain anywone they ddon't like the look of... culminating in the Nation Journalist... this I think is bringing it home to more ane more people that Suthep has to go,

Protests last night off asoke drew large crowd for Respect my vote

Numbers are falling so why not run them off the streets. What should people do, leave them there forever. 7,000 was the guess yesterday, they going to take on the rest of the Country.... No chance, not even with the army on their side can they pull this off now.

Hope it isn't violent, but if they won't go, it is time to make them go. Bye bye sooty, bye bye!!

You seem so excited by the prospect of violence. You are a sick person.

There getting brave with daylight attacks now. Give the Weekend Warriors something to think about this weekend.

Will history repeat itself? The last time the red shirt bombers were so actively attacking peaceful anti-Shin protesters, the protesters were forced to seek shelter in a safe environment which turned out to be Suvarnabhumi airport. Will they again be forced to retreat defensively to the airport?

The red shirts fired a grenade launcher into Don Muang airport then. Thais now know that Thai airports are not safe from red shirt or any other form of terrorist attack. So they won't go there.

I don't believe I have seen anyone here say that all attacks are false flags. For me it would take some actual evidence, so far there is none.

If it was a false flag, I don't think the main objective is to increase the ranks of the protesters, but to create a justification for a coup.

An attack like this in broad daylight. Seems like a false flag attack to me, especially since most of the explosive attacks have occured at night, although we'll have to see, if they catch the bomber we'll find out.

I tend to agree... seems a bit strange. The pickup was there to rush victims off... to where? Did a reporter go to the hospital and confirm injuries? The article talks about seeing bullet holes in the pickup truck, but there is no mention of small arms fire--only an explosion. So when/where would bullet holes come from?

Stickers in the form of bullet holes, they have been around for some time now

webfact, you're posting really old news. It was a grenade attack and the army have "discovered" a weapons cache (together with a comically placed red cap) and arrested a suspect.

conflicting reports about a grenade, is there anything definite?

Lol.... nope.

He seems to think that the army will split and start an internal war...

Trust me... If the army became 'active' it won't be the PDRC at risk, because it won't be them shooting at the soldiers. They will be shooting at those who shoot the soldiers.

The army is not about politics, they are for the people and His majesty. We all know how much the reds love monarchy.... not

Which ever side you are on this is simply evil, we all have our differences on this forum both yellow and red. How about, we rest up for a moment and think about those that have been gravely injured instead of throwing insults and or conspiracy theories around? Maybe if there was some more respect in this forum it would rub off else where.

Praying for all that have been injured in this latest incident. Both sides have been deplorable in their speech and actions, we all need to recognise this....

Hope no one else is injured, maimed and or killed, whether red or yellow and I for one sincerely mean that. So shut up with the dim witted comments, this is peoples lives everyone is throwing about.

Like I said, show some more compassion and decency.annoyed.gif.pagespeed.ce.EWbqpZ7s0b.gifxcrying.gif.pagespeed.ic.kNStNocrvS.webp

Does it really matter if it was a grenade, ping pong racket or popcorn - fact remains someone threw something that has 31 people (thus far) in hospital.

31 protesters injured in bomb attack against Suthep's procession
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thirty-one protesters were injured when an unknown assailant lobbed a grenade at the procession led by People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban on Banthad Thong Road at noon Friday.

The explosion damaged a pick-up truck.

As of 3:18 pm, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Erawan Emergency Medical Services Centre reported that 31 people were injured in the bomb attack on Banthad Thong Road.

Tweleve of the injured were rushed to the Ramathibodi Hospital, eight to Huachiew Hospital, three to the BMA Central Hospital, and eight to Chualongkorn Hospital.

Several protesters were seen covered in blood on the Bluesky satellite TV that broadcast the incident live. Some of them were rushed away in a pick-up truck and a Siriraj Hospital ambulance rushed to the scene to pick up the rest of the injured. Bullet holes could clearly be seen on the pick up’s trunk.

Protesters were seen running into a deserted building, trying to find the assailant.

PDRC security officers said the bomb was lobbed from a three-storey building. The building is in the process of demolition.

The attack happened near Lotus Charoenphol shopping mall.

It happened before Suthep was about to pass the area.

Military police from the Army rushed to the scene to inspect the explosion. Army officers were seen on Bluesky showing what appeared to be bomb shrapnel to reporters.

Satit Wongnongtaey, a protest leader, said he would discuss security measures with Suthep followng a bomb attack on Banthad Thong Raod and attacks at the Chaeng Wattana rally site.

Satit said the bomb attack against the march by Suthep on Banthad Thong Road did not terrify the people.

He said caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra must take responsibility for the violence.

IMO it was an assassination attempt

Didn't Jatuporn or Nuttawat offer 500,000 reward for the arrest of Suthep?

Dead or Alive?

Yes... and that is incitement to murder.

The terror campaign against a demonstrably peaceful protest is now being aired in the clear light of day, in the form of grenades being lobbed indiscriminately into the crowds of innocent Thai men and women walking the streets, holding hands. The lives of the protesters are clearly now in danger, as well as that of Suthep's. This incident - instigated and unprovoked - by those who loathe free peaceful expression - is now being broadcast around the world in an unstoppable juggernaut of international attention, outage, and concern, as what we're seeing is now being revealed for what it is - a campaign to crush a movement borne of free and peaceful expression towards a corrupt-free society. No longer is there any semblance of ambiguity as to where this originates from - or the danger it poses to Thailand's well-being in the future. This administration's hands are soiled by their inaction, by their campaign to discredit the movement, as well as any branch of government that doesn't play ball with them. This attack will only do the opposite of what is intended. It will act as a cause for fresh outrage, as our hearts go out to the victims and their families, in the defense of a peaceful, just cause.

Is it normal that the military police handles these types of incident? Or did they just happen to be nearby?

Normally no, but then again considering other available options...
