Didn't know they had "redwood trees" in Thailand.

I suspect 'real' redwood would last about 12 months here, a tasty snack for the local insect life.

If he's getting recycled timber it's likely teak (expensive) or Burmese ironwood (mai daeng).

There is Daeng and Deng....apart from the lighter colour from each....what is the difference ?

I did not know Daeng was also called Burmese Ironwood...nice, ironwood is vely vely strong and resistant to bugs of all sorts.

Hinges outside? Have a word with your carpenter...

I'll have a chat to meself later.....but why ?

classic look.

if worried about someone unscrewing them to break in.....the bolts on inside, outside the rounded bolt end, cannot undo....

Hmm... I'd say the cross bars and hinges should be inside, while having a plain front outside exposed to the elements.

Yes the "rustic" look would be lost than.

Should see the slope inside.

Anyway...first barn door I have ever built...first door in fact I think....and considering I did most of it, including hanging it alone or with the help of a 12yo boy and considering how heavy the bloody thing is....I am pretty happy that it matches up within a few mills in reality....and opens and closes.
