so he unsuccessfully tried to overtake a car,why does this not surprise me.

Only because he wasn't used to the controls of his father's car.

"Nawaporn said he was extremely sorry for the accident. He said he was using his father's SUV and was unfamiliar with the controls.

He said the accident occurred when he unsuccessfully tried to overtake a car only to see a vehicle coming the other way. As he swerved back to the left lane, he lost control, hitting his head on the wheel and dropping his glasses. He didn't see the police tent until he hit it."

What an excuse.

I hope they haven't enough money or power to escape justice, ie, prison sentence without bail while under appeal.

If only he was in a Ferrari....everything would be ok.

Why? Do you think that Ferrari drivers get away with incidents like that? Or do they perhaps have to go on the run whilst the investigation is still very much alive and charges are outstanding and face the music at some time?

I dont understand----- he was driving a Ferrari,It was definately him,He has been proved to have dragged the cop along the road, the cop died---------- what the hell are they still investigating !!!!!!!!!!!

RIP to the policemen and condolences to their family’s if the convictions and punishment is anything to go by last week he could get about 10hrs community service, shows how bad the drivers are in Thailand clip the pavement and then lose control of the vehicle dangerous place to have a tea break or counting their proceeds from the days takings on the pavement could have be hit by a speeding motorcyclist on the pavement / sidewalk when leaving the tent.

No policeman has ever hassled me, and I have driven cars and rode motorbikes for eight years, in fact I have always found them decent and helpful. So I feel sympathy towards them on this occasion. But if I am honest and the police had extorted money from me like what has obviously happened to some TV members, then I suppose my sympathies would have gone out the window, but the main people I would like to see dead are drunk drivers.

Three policemen were killed. However, some take this as an opportunity to expand on all sorts of irrelevant, unkind and senseless quips.

The main point is that three people died and no comments can alter, diminish or otherwise marginalize that fact.

I wonder if he had a driving licence.

Also wonder what his punishment will be.

500Baht for each life taken?

RIP to the 3 dead policemen.

No Costas, a bit higher charge to kill 3 police officers in TH, except if those idiot's family name is "von Ayutthaya". Of course if he "von" the court will be cahrged him 27 minutes charity work in Royal Palace Hotel and 1500 B fine.

In the thread to the main story Police said he wasn't drunk but lost control because he was driving too fast but the headline says he was trying to run the roadblock. If driving too fast maybe panicked and lost control is quite different from the deliberate act of driving fast to get through the roadblock and should upgrade charges in respect of the deaths but TIT.

The BIB should have waited but never do before running off at the mouth to the media.

"The BIB should have waited but never do before running off at the mouth to the media. "

If only Thai Visa members could follow that advice. Of course in this case the only comment attributed to police was:

Police said he wasn't drunk but lost control of the vehicle because he was driving too fast,

So it would seem the running off at the mouth was more of a Coconuts headline writer problem ... and, of course, the resident Thai Visa Farang Fantasy Factory CSI spokesmen.

[...]

I'll bet their traffic cones began about 40 meters before the stop point, rather than 300 meters, in order to allow people to begin slowing to enter the check point area. I've seen construction on freeways here. They place their traffic cones about 40 meters just before where they are using the lane for their labors. One barely has enough time to swerve to get over and avoid hitting a bunch of dumb asses standing around a Toyota sitting in the fast lane.

[...]

You give them too much credit. At the checkpoints I see daily on the Barommaratchachonnanee Rd. the traffic cones simply mark the spot where the vehicles should stop. There is not a single sign "upstream" announcing a checkpoint and setting a speed limit.

This was an accident waiting to happen.

Or it may actually be possible the police asked him some questions before the arrest and it is not the police running off their mouth without facts as their colleagues lay dead.

This topic appears to have turned into another cop bashing opportunity even though 3 of them are dead and others still in hospital, one said to be critical.

In a new report elsewhere this morning the driver has said he takes full responsibility with the excuse that he was not used to driving that particular vehicle fast .

Then why the hell was he driving it fast ?

A simple case of a young fells thinking he was a good driver and driving way beyond his capabilities with tragic results.

RIP the young policemen and a speedy recovery to the injured.

I've been in a head-on collision, both as a passenger and as a driver. I never once lost my glasses. Lame excuse for wreckless driving!

"wreckless driving?" Oh, I don't know? It looked a bit of a wreck to me??

I think his reckless driving coupled with his yet to be diagnosed mental problems and his poor eyesight will lead to a modest payment of public compensation and a larger payment to the people who can make this go away.

The BIB should have waited but never do before running off at the mouth to the media.

The members should have waited (for more reporting) but never do before running off at the mouth on TV.

So when do we know the a report is the difinitive version ?

Is there a definitive ANYTHING in this, the enchanted LOS?

To me this stupid saying of RIP to someone you never knew is just that.... stupid. Just empty words meant to make you feel and look good. Utterly stupid indeed !

So you mean you don't have any empathy towards people you don't know?

It must also mean you have no imagination how family and friends must feel when something like this happens.

RIP might just be an accepted and short way for me as an atheists to say , my thoughts and empathy goes out to all victims, family, friends etc.

That don't costs too much ink, does it, but I do care and feel?

If that's stupid, I prefer to be just that, I don't really care what you or others without any empathy or expression of such, thinks about me or others expressing their empathy.

The stupid part is when you expressed your opinion and poisened this thread with your view of people who do care,

It didn't serve a purpose except your selfish need to disregard people in public.

By the time they negotiate the bribe compensation, they will get the official story right.

Life and principles matters little, money talks, as always.

Not sure what pisses me off more , the culture or the media.

Original report gave the dead as senior ranks while a secondary report claimed that the dead were "rookies"

Rookie Commanders ? New to the force, sounds plausible enough in the RTP. Perhaps in Thailand" rookie" just means useless but priveledged.

He didn't poison anything,he expressed an opinion ( with which i whole heartedly agree ) Your RIP doesn't help anybody but you need to wear it on your chest to show what a nice little PC boy you are. If you care so much please wear your sorrow deep inside.

I never heard of any police check point in the USA having tents so the lazy, extorting bastards can sleep off their whiskey whilst on the payroll and then wake up refreshed and with a headache in order to badger and harass the general public for tea money.

Apologies, but I simply don't buy it.

How stupid do you feel right now ?

When the headline says a foreigner is killed the first 10 comments are RIP and condolences to the family.

3 police die and the tone is very different, why ??

This is a tragedy, whatever the result of the investigation there are 3 policemen dead and 3 injured, the families of these men will suffer and it seems nobody cares.

You seem to be new to Thailand.... ask some ordinary people here if they like the police.....

Actually i know a lot of nice policemen where i live in isaan. I also know some really great immigration officers,i have never been ripped off or asked for a bribe here, depends on your attitude i think, maybe Bangkok is different.

This morning i went to do my 90 day stamp. I got to immigration really early, before they had opened. They did a little ceremony, all the officers lined up on parade and the flag was raised. As a laugh i lined up with them standing to attention as the boss gave a little speech about serving the foreigners well and with fairness. As the flag reached the top of the flag poll all saluted,me included, after which they all gathered around me smiling taking turns to shake my hand as if i had done something heroic.

I once tried to give a young Isaan policeman a 200B gift for laboring over a credit card crime written report that I had to have completed for my home country bank. It took nearly 1.5 hours to complete as we worked through an interpreter. He refused to take the gift. So, I went and bought a few beers for him and the guys at the station, which they refused to drink until, either after work, or when I left. Quite the opposite of the image of money-grubbing, corrupt police.

There are some bright spots.
