RANONG, May 22 -- As martial law takes effect throughout Thailand for the third day today, soldiers are trying to block any attempts to carry military and other illicit weapons to Bangkok and convince community-based media not to broadcast any inciting messages.

In Ranong province, soldiers from the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Thepsatree Task Force increased checkpoints on the Phetkasem Highway to block any attempts to transport weapons from the South to Bangkok. They are also watching out for drug and human trafficking.

In Buri Ram province, soldiers of the Suranaree Task Force together with police and local administrators operate checkpoints on Road number 24 (Chokchai-Dej Udom) in Nong Ki district and in Ban Nong Samet village of Lam Nang Rong sub-district in Non Dindaeng district adjacent to the Thai-Cambodian border to screen out any attempted weapons movement towards Bangkok.

In Khon Kaen province, local staff of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission closed an illegal radio station in Ban Nong Kham village of Ban Ped sub-district in Muang Khon Kaen district to prevent any inciting programme as ordered by the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC).

In Chiang Mai province, the chief-of-staff of the 7th Infantry Division asked local journalists to refrain from any misleading information and that bus operators should avoid carrying demonstrators who could cause turmoil. (MCOT online news)
