Thai army imposes night-time curfew across country

BANGKOK, May 22, 2014 (AFP) - Thailand's military on Thursday declared a night-time curfew across the troubled country after seizing power in a coup.

"Under martial law, the National Peace Keeping Committee prohibits anyone across the kingdom from leaving their home from 10 pm to 5 am," an army spokesman said in a televised announcement.

Temporarily? Me tinks not.

probably won't apply to some tourists areas, can't imagine all of them sitting in their hotel drinking beer and watching TV. :) They can do that back in their falang country.

UPS – no party out tonight – bad for tourism... whistling.gif

Well that means no food in the markets...My brother in Law has to leave home evey morning at 1.30 so that people can buy the days meat. I hope they sort a permit system out soon for urgent work.

Will be interesting to see how this is enforced in Pattaya. Will be a ghost town if they really mean business.

Those who celebrated the coup have more to celebrate. Just be finished by 10 p.m.

hahahha love it

The TV Suthep Fan club Pattaya branch are now reconsidering their joy about the coup

Thais love being out at night and who can blame them, the weather is much cooler. It will be interesting to see how strictly this will be enforced...

As an aside, I have not seen one soldier on patrol in Chiang Mai. Just my personal experience...

Thai army orders all radio and TV to suspend normal programmes

BANGKOK, May 22, 2014 (AFP) - Thailand's military on Thursday ordered all television and radio stations to suspend their usual programmes and show only the army's broadcasts in the wake of a coup.

The move was to ensure the release of "accurate news to the people," an army spokesman said in a televised announcement.

And what about late international flights?

This could mean the shelves in the stores and tables in the market stalls will soon be empty. When do you think goods move around? When do you think farmers bring their produce to market? Ever been to a Thai wholesale food market at 5 am? The sort of places where the ma-and-pa street stalls go to buy their produce?

Good night tourism.

I mean how does that even work now?

Very easy, you can not go out between 22pm and 5am.

If you do, you risk being arrested or shot.

But do not freak , it usually lasts for few days unless there is trouble

And what about late international flights?

I was just thinking this.

How does this work?

That's screwed up plans for the next full moon party.

Looong time till June 12th – a lot can happen before... thumbsup.gif

hope the army is going to pay for all the new signs. no longer 7-11 but now 5-10

or perhaps "5-10 Good Buddy".

Saw soldiers hanging out around Thapae Gate yesterday evening at 7 pm. They're definitely at the "hot spots" in Chiang Mai.
