Prayuth tops people's choice as next PM

BANGKOK: -- The Master Poll has found that junta chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha is on top of the people's choice, supported by 32.1 per cent of respondents, as the next prime minister.

The Master Poll of the Thai Researchers in Community Happiness Association, TRICHA) was conducted among 2,087 people in 15 provinces from June 23 to 28.

Assoc Prof Dr Chet Ratchadaphnnathikul said Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva came second as the people's choice as the next PM with 13.9 per cent of the respondents supporting him.

Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, came third with 8.4 per cent of support and Democrat chief advisor came fourth with 8.1 per cent of support. And 6.9 per cent of the respondents preferred former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for the post.

it wouldn't make sense to appoint any of the old guards. The broom may come to them and wipe them away too.

Was I not reading on TVF that if a coup were to occur, the Isaanites would rise up on mass and violently overthrow the junta? But now, that the Shinawat mafia tentacles are being chopped off and the oh-so pursuasive local puuyai baans and kamnans are unable to intimidate and cajole the locals to vote for Shin, we are seeing a logical progression that people don't want the return of Shin. The mouse that never roared?

Do people really have a choice? If they're against the military etc then they're not allowed to legally speak out about the main reasons why. Don't forget these things. Plus all the news is good news when the military controls the news.

Does this mean Suthep actually had 8.4 + 8.1 = 16.5% voting for him, or didn't theNation know the name of the Democrats chief advisor?

In a poll you have a choice and in private one may tell about the reasoning for that choice. This poll seems to give results, no reasoning why people choose. As such it would not even be a real problem if the list of people mentioned would include Pol. Capt. Chalerm, k. Jatuporn, or even Thaksin himself.

Sounds like you were looking forward to it and now disappointed it didn't happen?

And yet, despite being so popular, they did not want an election. rolleyes.gif

Dear leader must think that we are not capable of that

In today's climate, any prudent citizen should ask the pollster what the correct answer is first, then give him that.

Nobody but some redshirts wanted this. But it does show that the reds are all talk when faced with a real opponent.(unlike shooting at children and throwing grenades all proven now) I for one am happy it did not happen. I doubt they would have stood a chance but many innocent could have been killed.

Sounds like an overwhelming majority of the electorate.

What you read and what many people said at the time, including me that it was nothing more than rhetoric and sabre rattling, but still it was used as a pretext for the coup. There was even some ardent posters on here who were going on and on about the "call to arms, and that there was militias being formed and 1 million weapons being issued"

It was NOTHING short of jingoism, but people believed it as that what they wanted to believe, there was NEVER a threat of civil war, in some peoples eyes this was seen as a catalyst, but again I said on several occasions, to convince a man to go and die for a cause is a lot harder than recruiting for one.

There was PDRC/Suthep posters here who were alarmist at best, when it was claimed by the reds they were raising an "Army" again, I said it was all a load of crap, and that it was a handful of UDD nut jobs just stirring the shit.

But it was enough to make the Junta believe it was going to happen? I'm sorry but I never bought into that being one of the reasons for the coup. The Military would have had their own Intelligence people in places that would have seen the Army swing into action outside of the Capital.. that didn't happen, there was no huge arrests of the 10,000 militia members with their 1 million guns.... why? because they only existed in peoples imaginations that's why.

ALL warfare is based on deception.

Wonder for how long we have to hear this propaganda.

Polls are not to be trusted at this point.

hardly a true representation of a countries votes if only 2000 people were asked and just in 15 provinces.

The General seems to have his head screwed on and is making some very good decisions to take Thailand into the future.

I think he will make a good new prime minister for Thailand but not sure how much he could accomplish if he does not have his current power (coup) to back him up. as soon as the army is not in control the usual arguing and bickering among the parties will start again and we will be back to where we were few months ago.

please prove me wrong

Polls are never to be trusted unless you know the sample audience and the questions. These polls are to be trusted just as much as those at the time of YL.

Wow.

Abasitt and Suthep coming in at the top.

They should run for office.

The bickering and arguing is what you want in a democracy.

The opposition is always watching every move.

Much better that some self appointed 'good guy ' that would throw you in jail if you even questioned him.

Looking at the results they haven't been driving far to reach those 15 provinces....

This "poll" is not even a decent joke. Suthep one of the top vote getters. Yea sure, ha ha, ho ho. I would love to see him run.

Yep, I think a Prayuth/Suthep/Prawit team (the three musketeers reunited!) is what the people want. I think they would absolutely smash the next election. It's already in the bag. Why dither and let other lesser countries accuse Thailand of being undemocratic? Time to set a firm date for the polls for the next three months, allow free campaigning (why not as the PSP team are so overwhelmingly popular?) and then they can have five years without worrying about another election... go PM Prayuth! All this needs is the stamp of the electorate in a free & fair election and then no one can say a thing. I for one will be fully behind the general and eat all my previous words if this happens.

And yet, despite being so popular, they did not want an election. rolleyes.gif

Too bad. A shame.

At the height of their popularity they boycotted the last election and are banned for 5 years.

Great, let's have an election and make it official! whistling.gif

I am sure some TV members would believe the Junta if they came out and said Thailand have won the World Cup.

And if the wrong guy wins (again) they can form a mob, manufacture another "crisis" that requires a coup or a stacked court.

Says the guy who does not agree with the result of the poll.

If the result favored Yingluck to be the next PM you would have jumped for joy, and trusted the poll. Admit it.

And if you are a PTP fan you should be used to propaganda by now. whistling.gif

And The Nation would print it as fact no doubt.

No choice right now, hopefully they will have a choice sooner than Oct of 2015 thumbsup.gif Of course with a shredded constitution and a military dictatorship appointing a ruling council, it will be interesting to see if those in power will allow any dissenting voices sad.png
