Address change on Thai ID card and House Paper

Featured Replies

What is the procedure for this?

I can find lots on NAME change but not on address change. Do the children 12+13 have to go to the original Amphoe or can they do it it the new one. (School being fussy they do not have local address!!)

IMHO, they first have to go to the Original Amphur (from the Housebook) and be "removed" , then goto the new Amphur with the Paper they get and be entered into another housebook

New ID-card are not issued for a change of address. The ID-card does not display the address.

My wife's ID card has our address on it....

I just rechecked, being in Thai it had me confused. The address is indeed on there in the bottom left corner.

That must be a government school. Children are supposed to attend a school where they are registered as living or they have to pay "special fees" to attend a school out of district.

Edit: First you have to find somebody with a local house book willing for them to be added on to their book. Then the parents of the children would have to go along with the holder of the new house book to move them onto it.

Just go to the new district and so long you have the permission of the head of house you can be shifted straigjt over. Did it for myself and kids last year.

You don't remove a address from a Tabien Baan, you only remove or add persons from it.

Yes it is a Government school. No chance of the mother appearing! She was divorced in the UK for desertion under the 3 year rule and proved untraceable. No problem with local house book. Any more thoughts!?

Thanks

If you have legal custody you can get it done. Your name on their birth certificates may also be enough.

Laolover is the legal guardian, he was married to the mother.

Thanks everyone. Been suggested that with all the paperwork, might be worth a go at the Amphoe here. I wanted to be sure that there was not some procedure of which we were unaware! Might take the teacher along!

Analog to post #2 of MJCM.

What I know for sure: if a foreigner with a yellow house book wants to change his adress, he first has to visit the original Amphoe (district office) to get removed from this house book, He will get a document confirming this removal ("check out").

With this he can go to the new Amphoe and get a new yellow housebook for the new address with the permission/confirmation of the landlord/master of the house as is stated in the blue book ("check in").

So I guess I won't be that different for Thais except that there will be no new housebook, just an added entry.

ID card with a differing (old) adress seems to be no problem and not necessarily a new one is issued.

Reference for the adress is the entry in the housebook.

No need to check out for Thai nationals. Can confirm that 300%.

I just checked with the Missus and she said when she "moved" from Buriram to Patters 3 years ago. The amphur here said she had to first be removed from the Tabien Baan there and then could come back to have her entered in the other Tabien Baan.

So it's good that its now possible to not have to go back to the "originating" Amphur. Saves you a lot of travelling.

But question (just for my curiosity) so when you changed, you of course had the "old" Tabien Baan with you?

Did the "new" Amphur amended the info in the "old" Tabien Baan ?
