With a Thai Elite visa can a person work legally as a digital Nomad ?

Recommended Posts

Thailand Elite has sent a mail to all the members some years ago which was addressed to all the members and visible to all.

Therefore each long time Thailand Elite member should have the list of all the members up to that moment.

Nothing fishy about this.

It was sold to over 2,800 members.

I have the database in my possession.

I hope you have the rights to have that database whistling.gif

Shall we make a big Thailand Elite Members' party?

The (quality)(imported) beer for everyone is on me :)

If we send an email to 2800 members, there should be enough people to make it nice and fun :)

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

As a digital nomad you can only work in your home country.

Which is a very valid and interesting point, in the Thai context, the digtial nomads on here are mixing immigration and "business" issues together.

There is nothing stopping a Thai national operating an on line business and I am sure there are quite a few that do, so yes one can operate an on line business from Thailand no problem, but the western on liners want to tie the two together run a business" and in the same breath they want a "special" long term "visa" to operate that business from Thailand, not pay income tax, not undertake any sort of investment in Thailand, by virtue of putting money into a venture or employing Thai nationals.

Sorry for the question, they should protect better their Elite members, with so many scammers around that database should be keep safe...

I was subscribed in Internations and they usually meet in Bangkok, but it's different to send the entire database or the members emails with many CC

All email addresses visible in the To: line ? Bad, bad practice. I would've thought an Elite scheme were very stringent about the privacy of their members.

Thailand isn't interested in busting these digital gypos or whatever they are called. Selling fake designer stuff on ebay. Thailand just wants them to cough up the cash for a non-imm visa which they all seem very reluctant to do.

fake designer stuff on ebay, "professional" gambling on line, porn sites, these are some of the reason's why there will never be a "digital nomad" type visa/set up simply because it cant be controlled as what some one gets up to as regards running an on line "business"

Yeah you're right there SP most of these digital gypos are porn mongers. It's the small timers selling the fake stuff.

Guys, you have no clue about digital normads i think. First, selling stuff on ebay is not what usually is understood under this term, cause this is physical trading. This is not something what you can do completly just with your computer. Producing porn is completly illegal in Thailand.

I don't now why some people are so envy about people that are free enough to dont need to work for an fixed employer, that they consider this lifestyle only with derogatory descriptions and associations. Some digital normads earn very good money just from them pure brain work. That's what the typical digital normad does, working with the brain, not with physical things or forbidden things. Beeing envy is not a nice behavior, enviers and haters will neve become happy at all. If everything is perfect in the own life, their are no reasons to devalue the lifestyle of others and so show envy about this lifestyle.

the whole debate is moot anyway, as much as people whinge and stamp their little feet and throw their toys out the cot, and say its just not fair, Digital nomads, on liners, independently wealthy, free lancers or what ever title they give themselves will not be getting a "special" visa to live and work in Thailand long term, so suck it up ladies

You seem pretty convinced that you are a special snowflake who the military government will make an exception for. All farangs are in the firing line, good sir, including you. So I wouldn't get too smug.

You forgot 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling'.

Yeah, they won't be given a new visa to live and work in thailand longterm, because they already have the thai elite card 5 years / 20 years, right ?

Digital nomad....oh . Anyway can some hi-horse farang here explain if I rent my condo in canada and declare it on my Canadian income tax am I also working illegally in Thailand? If I get an email from my tennant about malfunctioning washing machine and I need to contact a repairman in Canada about the issue am I working online?

Even better... if you are receiving your pension from uk should you not be declaring Thai income tax?

Some people are so full of hate they can't even understand what they type.

answer 1. no your not

answer 2. no your not

answer 3. no you dont because there is a reciprocal tax agreement between the UK and Thailand and if income is taxed at source which it is in the UK, no tax is payable in Thailand

Nice try but no cigar, seems your typing things you dont understand either

If "digital nomad" is paying tax in his home country is he working illegally in Thailand? Simple answer yes or no?

No. The issue with "digital nomads" is not needing a work visa. They obviously do not. The issue is that unless they are over 50, they can't legally stay here at all. Over 50 digital nomads can stay here on a retirement visa with no issues. It doesn't make sense to have a visa class defined by age. If you are 45 and have regular income from abroad you should be able to get a retirement visa just like a 51 year old can.

Because where you tax, if you pay tax or even if your getting paid at all has nothing to do with the definition of "working" in Thailand, thumbsup.gif

so to answer your question if a digital nomad is working with out a work permit in Thailand, he is working illegally

Then any income including your investments from your home country makes you an illegal alien. I hope you have your visa sorted out.

I dont have any investments in my home country, and although I am classed as an Alien in Thailand, I am not illegal, and havent had a visa for Thailand in nearly 10 years

Not strictly true, and it's been done to death, despite numerous people appearing to think that the more they post that the rules will change. So in Simple terms, no work permit, means illegal work.

Still working illegally

Even if your country of incorporation has a dual taxation agreement with Thailand you still need a WP or be the Director of a Thai Registered Company.

This is getting typically nasty in a ThaiVisa sort of way.

The long timers calling the onliners names and vice-versa.

Let me simplify it...

The long timers are simply pointing out that you need a work permit to technically work here but if you work under the radar, then the least you need is a visa.

If you aren't married, under 50, or don't want to do the Ed visa, your ONLY real option is the Elite visa.

The onliners are saying, "we don't want to pay for that it's a bad investment and Thailand should be desperate for the rent and beer money we spend."

Guess what?...If you don't want to invest in a company it's your ONLY option. Quit whining about the visa rules, they may or may not change to suit you.

The longtimers don't really care about you working under the radar, they're just giving advice about your options, which are legally very limited.

Very well put

Do you know what I find really sad about all of this?

Oil workers (I'm targeting these people because they're obviously smart and they have 6 months of free time on their hands) could easily take their month of free time and build a 6-figure B2B service business within 3-5 years, possibly even less.

Then they could work from a beach (or wherever in Thailand they live) and spend all the time in the world with their family, all while having no boss, making more than they're making now, and not having to work 12 hour shifts on a rig with sweaty other men.

But instead they just dismiss digital nomads as losers because if you search online for ways to make money you are fed MLM and filling in survey offers.

I'm sure other smart people could do it too, and you could fire your boss and wake up when you want.

I ask anyone with some intelligence to look into it a little more because they might like what they find. <deleted> you're just offering someone a solution to a problem and charging them for it. Who cares if it's offline, online, or on the moon?

@ Mr Toad

I was going to comment, but I can no longer be bothered.

If I were to comment, we both know what would happen..

First, you would reply. You would write something negative and/or sarcastic. Soutpeel would reply to your comment. And then Neverdie would come along. Ditto TonyTiger or ATF. The group of you would click generously on each other's like buttons.

Politely, don't you think that belonging to this little clique of less educated men devalues you? Don't you think it's rather obvious that the four (or possibly five) of you are in contact "behind the scenes" by PM? Do you think real businessmen behave the way you do?

I'm not telling you what to do, but I really feel you are devaluing yourself. The sight of adult men operating in "packs" to stalk their detractors is incredibly weak.

Rise above it, Mr Toad. Have a nice day!

Dave the question about legal / illegal has been done to death. I don't think the current rules are great, in fact they are very ambiguous Hence my comment, that it is still illegal without a WP, according to immigration, but then that could easily chafe as well.

Let's leave it there.
