ScotSurvey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Although I am voting Yes in this referendum, and I am campaigning hard to make sure it happens - I am looking forward to having dual-citizenship, Scottish and British. I'll take great delight in using the excellent British Embassy and overseas business offices when it suits me. Also, it will allow me to access the UK NHS, so if I'm needing an expensive operation, I'll get it done there, and save the Scottish NHS some money. Win-win all round. Vote Yes - and get dual-nationality.
smokie36 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I don't see how it could be bad for Scotland if they get to take the North Sea oil with them. They could be the next Norway. However, Scottish independence would consign the UK to the clutches of the Tories forever. Hard luck for the Brits in that case. Surely it will be good news. No more socialist governments for us. Good Tory governments. We expats are not all working class! What class are you?Upper middle class! Anything wrong with that? How does that differ from normal middle class?
super22k Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Can we English have a referendum to find out if we want Scotland?Scotland has a referendum and therefore a choice. We English have no choice.I m sure the English message would be,"Up yer kilt!"
dabhand Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 How does that differ from normal middle class? They have access to plums? 1
MJP Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 There's only two classes. Them wot work and them wot don't.
David48 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Cough ... because no-one bothered to answer. With regards to the question of the rights to the North Sea Oil. Isn't there legal leases in place ATM to Private Companies who have rigs in place and if those fields are in what would become Scottish territorial waters, the only thing Scotland would be entitled to would the taxes and excises being levied? New finds and lapsed/expired leases obviously are different. Asking, not telling. .

The revenue would simply pass to Scotland as its in our territory. 1
Richard W Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Won't the UK have to change its name? Scotland is easy. What will the remainder be called?England. The Scots deny the Irish claim that Northern Ireland joined Britain on 8 December 1922. I assume Scotland will have a president rather than the current monarchy. I wonder who that might be?.It is declared policy that the Queen of Scotland remain Queen of Scotland. She'll just have to get use to being Queen of England. Does the Republic of Ireland have passport control at the border with Northern Ireland? Then why should Scotland need it?The Republic's immigration policy does not distinguish significantly from the UK's. The reason for regular passport control is that the SNP wants a truly independent immigration policy. Align with England's policy and we can keep the border cheaper. On the subject of Falklands' oil: Oh but hang on.....10% of any if those oil discoveries will belong to Scotland too.....what a lovely day it is!The SNP position is to claim nothing but Scotland. If the Scots reject Northern Ireland, they can't have the Falklands. There is still a certain appeal to England leaving the UK instead - it gets us out of the EU!
Richard W Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 A reasonable view if it were the case that the Scots voluntarily entered the union with Great Britain, but the battle of Culloden says otherwise..There were plenty of Campbells. The Scots were split - essentially Catholics and Episcopalians for the Stuarts, and Presbyterians for the Hanoverians. I've been assured there won't be a rerun in the United Kingdom of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
BadBouy Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 As a yank, all I have to say is good luck to the lot of you. When all the BS and bravado is over remember we all do a lot better as friends separated by a common language!
ScotSurvey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 ^^ Idiotic posts - that's how we Scots know we are dealing with politically illiterate scum, when they reduce the "debate" to that. 2

smokie36 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The funniest thing right now is the Labour support for what should have been Devi Max....and was refused during talks by the Tory government. Labour are desperate for power....and don't care at all for anyone but their own skins.....in fact they are just Tories wearing red really nowadays. Sad to see.

Welcome to the current level of the Bitter Together campaign. It's deeply, deeply insulting to the Scottish electorate. The English should remember that they were nothing till we gave them a backbone. Do you know how many were in the English army that assembled to "defeat" the Armada? 3,000 - most of whom were armed with pitchforks and Morris dancing bells. Useless. Goddam lucky there was a storm in the channel otherwise the national dish would be paella and chips.

ScotSurvey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 English history in six easy steps - 1. Got done in by the Romans. 2. Got done in by the Saxons. 3. Got done in by the French. 4. Got done in by the Scots. 5. Got done in by the plague. 6. Got done in by the Scots again when we joined them and sucked them dry for 307 years. Now they're £1.4 trillion in debt, we'll just leave them to it. What a useless nation. 1

Goshawk Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 i sincerely hope the true Scots get what they want/deserve . . . . sadly they are up against a mighty opponent with the snooty British english establishment that probably caring nothing more than how the union jack will look afterwards, and oh what an embarrassment to the queen it would be.

The Queen has told Cameron to go eff himself - she's not stooping to political intervention to protect his sorry ass. http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/politics/queen-will-not-back-the-union-ahead-of-independence-referendum-1.422113 Truthfully - I would have been astounded if she did. 1

MAJIC Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The yes campaign has a big following in the 16-18 yr old range (all eligible to vote of course), who have been fed too much Brave Heart and Rob Roy for their own good. I really hope people stop and think what they are doing, once the result of the vote is done there is no going back. Yes it's Braveheart,Rob Roy,and Alex Salmond, three myths if there was one? I have mixed feelings about the YES and No Vote, being Gentlemanly I would like to see our respective Countries stick together as we have done through thick and thin, for the past 300 years, like a marriage gone wrong, where a split up after the legalities may see both parties worse off than they are now! My own personal views, which are contrasting with "The better together view" From the English view, surviving without Scotland would not be a hardship, for the Uk! And I have to say, with having the SNP ejected from the House of Commons, and together with Slimeball number 1 Alex Salmond, would be a huge bonus!not having to listen to his incessant....scutland ....scutland...scutland.....sounds like a football game gone wrong, doesnt it? So really it's a heads UK wins Scotland loses for me! or heads we win tails they lose! 1
MAJIC Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The Queen will remain Queen of Scotland....there is no question there at all. Are you having a laugh Smokie or what! The Queen may? still be the head of State the same as Australia!
smokie36 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Out of interest MAJIC...do you view yourself as the husband or wife in this "divorce"?
